Abstract:The use of SNSs has increased in the past few years and is now an integral part of our lives. Research on Instagram, one of the most used SNSs, found that it has a negative effect on individual’s subjective well-being. This compels the need to investigate why individuals continue to use Instagram. The aim of this research is to show that Instagram does not only affect its users negatively but also positively, depending on how it is used. By replicating Huang’s (2016) research on Facebook, this research looked at the relation between self-disclosure and the continuance intention of Instagram, while taking into account the relevant mediators in form of social support and online social well-being. There were 429 participants involved in this study. The result shows a good fit model and reveals that, on Instagram, individual’s self-disclosure is related to their online social well-being both directly and indirectly (through social support), which indirectly affects their continuance intention of Instagram.
