Abstract:Well integrity refers to the capability of preventing uncontrolled hydrocarbon leakage in oil production wells and is one of the main concerns of oil companies during well lifecycle, from the drilling phase, through production phase and plugging and abandonment phase. Specifically, during the production phase, integrity is achieved by means barrier elements such as casings, tubings, cement, valves and other tight components capable of preventing leakages. The repair of these components is done by means of workovers, which in offshore wells are interventions that employ specific vessels and rigs. Despite numerous studies aiming to assess the reliability of barrier elements, there is still a gap regarding the inclusion of workovers into reliability models. In addition, since reliability data for well components are scarce, impact of the resulting uncertainty over the models is still a factor of objection. This paper proposes a Markov model to cover the concerns highlighted above regarding well integrity reliability studies, including workover considerations and uncertainty propagation. From the model, not only probability of leakage and degraded states were calculated for different times between workovers, but also the expected number of leakages and downtime due to repair, which impacts directly on well profit. The results support operators on keeping risk at tolerable levels while managing efficiently resources like workover rigs and spare parts, thus reducing operational costs.
