Abstract:Choosing an ultrasound system for musculoskeletal work involves a review of many vendors, models, features, and price points. At one level, the choice between a portable system and a console system must be made. Thereafter, consideration of the various features of each model, the level of technical support offered by the company, and the price of the system all play a role in making a purchasing decision. Finally, intended use (such as for diagnostic purposes only, for injection guidance only, or a mix of the two) and the degree to which the physician wishes to become more proficient with musculoskeletal ultrasound also factor into choosing a system. In fact, price should be among the least important considerations.
