Abstract:The Self-Control and Self-Management Scale (SCMS) was developed to be a content and construct valid measure of the self-regulatory model of self-management (Mezo, 2009). The purpose of the present study was to expand on previous findings by evaluating construct and factorial validity in a Canadian university sample (n = 410). The descriptive statistics and reliability estimates of the SCMS were replicated in the current sample. In terms of construct validity, convergent validity was obtained with mindfulness, positive affect, negative affect, life satisfaction, depression, stress, and anxiety. Likewise, discriminant construct validity was obtained with social desirability, irrational beliefs, and anxiety sensitivity. Furthermore, the three-factor structure of the SCMS was supported by a confirmatory factor analysis. Taken as a whole, these results suggest that the SCMS is a robust measure of self-management and should be considered a viable measure in future research and applied settings. L'Échelle d'autocontrôle et d'autogestion (ÉACG) a été développée pour être une mesure valide, en termes de contenu et de construit, du modèle d'autorégulation de l'autogestion (Mezo, 2009). Le but de la présente étude était d'élargir les connaissances antérieures en évaluant la validité de construit et la validité factorielle dans un échantillon universitaire canadien (n = 410). Les statistiques descriptives et les estimés de fidélité de l'ÉACG ont été reproduits dans le présent échantillon. En termes de validité de construit, une validité convergente a été obtenue avec la conscience, l'affect positif, l'affect négatif, la satisfaction à l'égard de la vie, la dépression, le stress et l'anxiété. De la même façon, une validité de construit discriminante a été obtenue avec la désirabilité sociale, les croyances irrationnelles et la sensibilité à l'anxiété. De plus, la structure à trois facteurs de l'ÉACG a été soutenue par une analyse factorielle confirmatoire. Pris ensemble, ces résultats suggèrent que l'ÉACG est une mesure robuste de l'autogestion et devrait être considérée comme une mesure viable dans les recherches futures et dans un cadre appliqué.
