Abstract:Abstract Aiming at the problems of poor automation and low efficiency in tomato planting, this paper designed a fully automatic rock wool seedling planting machine. We designed the machine’s overall structure according to the agronomic requirements of tomatoes and the actual site. In addition, according to the uncertainty of contact between the rock wool block (RWB) and soil matrix, the corresponding motion behavior model after collision contact was established to predict the motion of RWB. The parameterized modeling of the soil matrix was carried out, and then a structure with an adaptive function was added to the original machine for optimization. The machine was processed, manufactured, and tested. The success rate of colonization was 99.4%, and the efficiency was 1500 per hour. The study can provide a reference for the automatic tomato planting machine design.

Abstract:Reforestation is the main, priority task of the modern forest complex. Natural forest regeneration has long been considered a priority. Natural regeneration, as a way of reforestation, has a number of significant drawbacks. Firstly, the natural regeneration of forests in burned areas and deforestation does not occur immediately after deforestation, but over a fairly long time ̶ reforestation period, during which various unfavorable processes ̶ soil erosion, sodding develop on an unforested area. Secondly, natural renewal quite often leads to a change of species, i.e. desired valuable breeds do not grow. As a result, the territory is overgrown with minor soft-leaved species that have low economic value. Mechanized landing, i.e. artificial reforestation, also has a number of disadvantages. Therefore, planting operations carried out under various conditions are the most labor-intensive and responsible operations. The technological process of planting seedlings and seedlings of various tree species with both open and closed root systems is presented. The analysis of existing designs of forest planting machines for open areas, fires and clearings is carried out. Deficiencies were identified that affect the quality of the planting process and reduce the survival rate of planted seedlings and seedlings.

Abstract:Abstract Problems of mechanization of artificial reforestation in the taiga zone are increasing the productivity of manual labour and reducing the costs of subsequent young stand treatment (early tending and early pre-commercial thinning). Petrozavodsk State University has developed the complex of machines and technologies capable to solve these problems. This complex includes: seeder, root-cutter, dynamic hole-maker and mechanical mounder. Seeder and root-cutter are intended for growing enlarged seedlings with an open root system in forest nurseries. Seeder provides mechanization of sowing seeds. Root-cutter is used for pruning the root systems of seedlings during cultivation. Dynamic hole-maker provides strip soil clearing, surface tillage and preparation of holes for manual planting of seedlings. The hole-maker is also capable to make soil scarification and sowing forest seeds. Mechanical mounder provides strip clearing in the forest plot and creation of humus mounds with mineral soil cover for manual planting of seedlings. Basic technological parameters of the complex of machines have been also substantiated at the Petrozavodsk State University.

Abstract:To improve the efficiency of mechanization in transplanting vegetable seedlings and achieve the automation of vegetable transplanter in dry land, an automatic vegetable pot seedling transplanter for dry land was developed. This transplanter is mainly composed of 2 rotating seedling picking-up mechanisms of planetary gear train with ellipse gears and incomplete non-circular gears, a horizontal and longitudinal intermittent seedling sending device, 2 eccentric disc dibble-type planting apparatuses, and a power transmission system. Two rotating seedling picking-up devices and 2 eccentric disc dibble-type planting apparatuses were symmetrically arranged along the longitudinal surface center of the machine, constituting 2 sets of automatic seedling picking-up and planting systems. The seedlings were provided automatically from 2 standard seedling pots with 128 holes using the horizontal and longitudinal intermittent seedling sending device. The engine drive shaft could transfer power to the principal axis of the apparatus through chain drive to enable the rotating and planting of the apparatus. Meanwhile, the principal axis of the apparatus could transfer the power to the rotating seedling picking-up mechanisms of planetary gear train with ellipse gears and incomplete non-circular gear and intermittent seedling sending device. Subsequently the intermittent seedling sending device could move horizontally and longitudinally to send the seedling pots to the target place, where the seedling picking-up mechanism took the seedlings from the pot to the eccentric disc dibble-type planting apparatus. To test the performance of this automatic vegetable pot seedling transplanter for dry land, the experiments were conducted in the test field where the soil condition met the mechanical industry standard in People's Republic of China Dry Land Planting Machinery (JB/T 10291-2013). The tomato seedlings (ZheZa 809) used in this experiment were cultivated in the standard seedling pots with 128 holes and transplanted at the age of 35 days with an average height of 150 mm. The seedling sending, picking-up, delivering and planting were all carried out at a constant transplanting frequency by adjusting the speed of the input belt pulley of the walking gear-box. The seedling transplanting efficiency was tested at the low speeds of 45, 60, 75 and 84 plants/min, respectively, as well as at the high speed of 96 plants /min. The coefficient of variation for planting spacing, missing transplanting rate, qualified rate of planting depth and qualified rate of transplanting were determined according to the mechanical industry standard Dry Land Planting Machinery(JB/T10291-2013). The seedling-standing ratio was calculated based on the Technical Specifications of Quality Evaluation for Rape Transplanter (NY/T 1924-2010) according to the standards for agriculture industry in People's Republic of China. The results showed that the coefficient of variation for planting spacing and the missing transplanting rate increased slightly at the range of 6.6%-8.9% and 1.7%-2.8% accordingly when increasing the planting frequency from 45 to 96 plants/min. However, the qualified rate of planting depth, the qualified rate of planting perpendicularity and the qualified rate of transplanting decreased slightly in the range of 97.5%-98.9%, 96.7%-97.8%, and 91.1%-94.7% with the increasing of planting frequency. The coefficient of variation for planting spacing, the missing transplanting rate, the qualified rate of planting depth and the qualified rate of planting all met the requirements of the machinery industry standards (JB/T 10291-2013), and the qualified rate of planting perpendicularity was also within the specified value in the standards for agriculture industry (NY/T 1924-2010). The automatic seedling-sending device, the seedling picking-up device and the planting apparatus of the automatic transplanter coordinated well with each other to complete the process for sending seedlings, picking up seedlings, delivering seedling, planting and soil covering automatically.
Machine for carrying works on deep loosening of soil with the simultaneous application of liquid organic fertilizers

Abstract:Abstract The situation in the country is analyzed, the amount of fallow lands withdrawn from agricultural use during the period of reforms is estimated. The necessity of carrying out work on deep loosening of mineral soils of III-IV groups of heavy mechanical action to increase water permeability, in order to drain excess surface water into the underlying soil layers, has been substantiated. The ways of achieving a high-quality fine crumbly soil structure to achieve an optimal water-air balance for the subsequent development of plants have been investigated. The efforts of reclamation rippers are considered and a two-row deep-ripping type with front shanks of a volumetric structure and rear curved shanks with additional plowshares is selected. The possibility of simultaneous operations on deep loosening of the soil with the introduction of liquid fertilizers has been substantiated. This will increase the fertility of the soil and qualitatively change its composition. The rates of application of liquid fertilizers to the soil have been investigated and a modified design of the machine for the delivery of organo-containing liquid to an enlarged pore space has been proposed. The resistance of soil development was estimated, the traction and grip qualities of the machine were checked and the possibility of installing additional equipment for applying fertilizers to the root-inhabited vegetation layer was revealed. The movement of an organic fluid in the pore representation is considered, the possibility of creating a homogeneous soil structure and uniform distribution of fluid, organic matter, in the root zone of plants is analyzed. The influence of the ongoing reclamation measures on increasing soil fertility, creating an optimal water and air balance for the growth and development of cultural and expected increase in yield is analyzed.

An Integrated Potato-Planting Machine with Full-Film Mulching and Ridged Row Soil Covering

Abstract:This paper presents the design of an integrated potato-planting machine capable of full-film covering, creating micro-ditches on ridges, and covering seed rows with soil. The machine addresses the challenges of traditional methods, allowing for mechanized planting with complete film coverage and individual seed row soil covering. The key components of the prototype were analyzed and designed. This includes the seeding system, the pointed wing-shaped trencher for creating micro-ditches, and the straddling film-mulching device. Additionally, the operating mechanism of these core components was analyzed. Field trials demonstrated an 85% success rate for seed depth placement under the film. The machine also achieved a 90% qualified index for seed potato spacing, with a 6% repetitive seeding rate and a 3% missed seeding rate. Furthermore, the qualified rate for covered soil width on seed rows was 94%, and the qualified rate for covered soil thickness was 93%. The adjacent row spacing achieved an 88% success rate. The degree of mechanical damage to the exposed surface of the mulch film was minimal, at only 30.2 mm2/m2. These results meet all the national and industry standards. The successful field trials confirm the effectiveness of the machine in performing integrated fertilization, sowing, ridging, full-film covering, and seed row soil covering. Compared to traditional methods, this machine significantly reduces labor intensity for farmers and enhances the economic value of potato planting.

Abstract:Abstract In the “Q-factor” laboratory of the Don State Technical University, seeding planters are created with the original design of sowing devices, using modern materials and technologies. The design of a row seeding planter is considered, which allows coordinating the speed of the seed and the speed of the unit for a better sowing process. A new classification feature in the design of the row precise seeding planter is designated - the height of the sowing device from the bottom of the furrow. The characteristic features of the constructions of serial seeding planters on the basis of the aforecited feature were identified and analyzed. The rationale for the need to improve the technological process of sowing seeds of row crops by serial seeding planters is given. The problem is indicated, which is the lack of automation in controlling the precision sowing process during the operation of the seeding planters. A functional diagram and design of a sowing device with a seed tube is proposed, in which the ability to control the flight speed of seeds directly during sowing is implemented. A setup for testing the sowing device is presented with the aim of increasing the accuracy of determining the parameters of the operating modes of the sowing device of precise seeding planters in laboratory conditions. The results of laboratory experiments are obtained, which makes it possible to judge the possibility of controlling the speed of seeds directly during sowing process.

Abstract:The efficiency of modern tree planting machines is strongly affected by operational conditions, technical machine performance, and operator. In this study, the aim was to determine the time consumption of mechanical planting work using the M-Planter planting machine in Finnish regeneration areas where stumps were harvested and slash collected. The work of six operators, working with four M-Planter planting machines, was quantified with a stopwatch-study method. A linear mixed-effects model was used to examine the influences of operator, base machine, planting area, and work-difficulty factors on the time taken to complete planting. The quality of the planting work was also evaluated. Including a constant time for refilling seedling cassettes, the mean productivity of operators was 280 seedlings per productive work hour, and the time used to plant a seedling was on average 13.21 seconds (standard deviation 1.4 seconds). There were no significant differences in time consumption between operators; base machine did not have a significant effect on total work time; and surface obstacles was the only work-difficulty factor to slow mechanical planting work. Seedlings were planted to an acceptable quality by all operators. With respect to equipment, the M-Planter has two separate planting units, and results should not be generalized to other devices.

Abstract:In recent years, fully mechanized planters have gained attention in Brazil on flat to steep terrain. A field study was conducted to analyze the potential of a planting machine composed of a hydraulic crawler excavator and a planter unit to perform soil preparation and planting in two slope classes and two conditions of slash presence. The experimental area was divided according to slope – undulating (8% to 20%) and strong undulating (20% to 45%) – and the presence of slash. Slope class did not significantly affect productivity, nor was there a significant interaction effect between the slope and slash factors. The presence of slash proved to be statistically different, with mean productivity of 236 seedlings hour-1 when reloading the carousel in an area without harvesting slash. Tree planting machine utilization was 75.13%, and the mechanical availability was 79.6%. The presence of slash significantly reduced the tree planting machine productivity, including the seedling reloading time, suggesting a newer research line for fasters reloading seedling systems.

Abstract:Abstract The most important link in the system of measures to ensure a high culture of agriculture and obtaining high yields of melons and gourds is tillage. Success in the cultivation of melons and gourds largely depends on the period and quality of tillage, and tillage depends on the methods of its implementation and the perfection of machine design. The aim of the study is to justify the optimal design of the energy-resource-saving combined machine for preparing the soil for sowing of melons and gourds, and the parameters of its carcasses based on the theory of the interaction of carcasses with the soil layer. The paper proposed a new technology for preparing the soil for sowing melons and gourds in a single pass of the unit, including loosening the aisle between adjacent planting zones, simultaneous formation of irrigation furrow by turning the layers of the planting zone relative to each other, strip loosening the subsurface soil layers and preparing the soil for sowing seeds along the sowing line. The paper presents the design of the developed combined machine for the implementation of the proposed technology. The types and mutual arrangement of the working parts of the machine are theoretically justified. It has been established that with a longitudinal distance from the toe of the plowshare of the combination unit to a flat-cutter 35.1 cm, a longitudinal distance between flat-cutters 42.3 cm and a minimum longitudinal distance between the support wheel and a flat-cutter 24.1 cm, the field is prepared for sowing of melons with minimal costs energy.

Abstract:Means of automation of sowing machines - a set of special electronic technical means designed to ensure high productivity, improve the quality and reliability of the sowing process. (Research purpose) To review and analyze the designs and technical characteristics of automated selection planters for sowing grain and other crops in experimental plots. (Materials and methods) Presented a number of automated technical means for sowing various crops for breeding and primary seed production. We analyzed various design solutions and noted the most rational structural elements of the machines used. (Results and discussion) Prepared an overview of selective seeders equipped with various automation and process control systems. (Conclusions) In the near future development of the domestic agricultural machinery industry, intensive introduction of automated control and monitoring systems for technological processes, hybrid and battery electric drives, including in selective sowing equipment, should be observed. An analysis of the designs of the presented samples of selective seeders showed important directions for improving their technical level and improving machine technologies for selective sowing of crops.

Abstract:To carry out artificial reforestation, it is necessary to use mechanized means – tree-planting machines. The lack of domestic tree-planting machines is one of the problems of artificial reforestation in Russia. The purpose of the study is to substantiate the design parameters of a tree-planting machine with a disk operating device. To achieve this goal, the use of modern software environments is required with the possibility of full consideration of all factors affecting the machine. In the course of this research, a solid model of a tree-planting machine has been developed by means of a computer-aided design system. The “Universal Mechanism 9.1” software package, designed for modeling the dynamics and kinematics of mechanical systems, has been chosen as a computational environment studying the parameters of the model. Only the input values for the simulation model have been introduced into the software package, since the mathematical apparatus is embedded in the core of the program. Using the software package, a simulation model of a tree-planting machine has been created, taking into account both the interaction of the machine links and the discrete contact interaction of the seedling with the machine and the soil. A computational experiment has been carries out and the kinematic and dynamic parameters of the tree-planting machine have been established, in which the feeder would not interfere with the free fallout of the briquette with the seedling. The geometric parameters of the mechanism have been determined to match the cam profile with its movement along with the disk and the operation of the roller tappet so that the grippers install the briquette with the seedling into the soil in a timely manner. The trajectory of movement of the briquette with the seedling has been found. With the help of FDM 3D-printing, a full-size model of a disk planting apparatus has been made, and a laboratory experiment has been conducted to establish the required torque on the hub of the planting apparatus disk and the shaft of the drum. The results of the experiment have confirmed the adequacy of the developed simulation model.

Abstract:Radish, which is rich in carbohydrates and inorganic salts such as phosphorus and iron, is a common food for people. With the development of variety innovation, cultivation methods and transportation industry, the demand for radish has risen steadily, and the current national planting area has reached 20 million mu. In order to continuously implement the "14th Five-Year Plan", promote the modernization of agriculture and rural development, and improve productivity while liberating farmers' hands, radish planting and laminating machine came into being. Its soil loosening mechanism easily realizes the pre-treatment of the land. The benign seeds were then drilled to reduce the error of uneven dissemination. At the same time, the irrelevant fertilization mechanism ensures the nutritional supply of crops, grasps the planting time, and frees the hands of farmers. After planting, the soil return mechanism to improve the ridge soil paving and other follow-up. Finally, the film laminating mechanism is combined with the film pressing wheel to finish the operation of film laminating. Compared with traditional planting, the turnip planting mulching machine has many characteristics, such as significantly increasing germination rate, greatly shortening construction period, and significantly reducing cost.
Application Research of New Seedlings Automation Transplant Equipment in Agricultural Greenhouse

Abstract:Owing to the rapid development of greenhouse planting technology,aiming at the low efficiency of artificial seedlings greenhouse transplantation of breeding and seedlings destruction,a kind of automatic plug seedlings transplant was designed,and theoretical calculation and experiment on the transplant machine mixing,transportation organization,cutting soil institutions and its power consumption were conducted.The results showed that the spiral extrusion institution was fit for article mud generated quick-moving,cut into parts.Automatic plug seedlings transplant could reduce the labor intensity of the farmers,improve the survival rate of seedlings.Prototype test showed that the theoretical analysis and the prototype test were identical,that the structure was reasonable of this whole equipment,had very good transplantation effect,achieved the expected design goal.

Abstract:Nowadays the trend of development of combined units and devices for implementation of specified technological processes is widely spread. The use of combined working organs for graded subsurface tillage allows to reduce the energy and labor costs and to improve the technological process. Based on the comparison methods and monographic survey of existing designs of working organs, their shortcomings when using in arid conditions are revealed. It has been established that in such conditions it is advisable to apply graded subsurface tillage. The analysis of designs of working organs for graded tillage is performed, it allows to establish the advantage of curved elements for surface tillage. A number of shortcomings of subsurface cultivating working organs that have been revealed during years of researches allows for the conclusion about the prospects of replacing blades on curvilinear rippers for surface tillage. The data of content of valuable soil aggregates as a percentage of absolute dry chernozemic soil are given. Based on the analysis of the data, it is established that layer structure can be improved through the use of an element for surface tillage to the depth down to 16 cm in design of chisel working organ. The expediency of mounting of elements for deep and surface tillage on the same tine for graded subsurface tillage is proved. The scheme of a combined working organ is proposed: a chisel for deep tillage and a curvilinear ripper for surface tillage are mounted on its tine, which provides the required crumbling of layer.

Abstract:Transversal double-bud sugarcane planting with seed pre-cutting is an advanced method with great development prospect. This technique ensures a high bud ratio, strong tillering capability and reduced seed consumption. Moreover, it obtains a long ratoon period, a high yield and Pol property. The transversal sugarcane planter must satisfy the agronomic requirements of precise planting with deep furrowing, orderly and uniform transversal seeding and consistent fertilization. Here, a novel transversal double-bud sugarcane planter was designed with the following main components: furrow openers, seeding units, fertilizers, seed compensators and soil cover units. The effects of rotary tillage speed, sprocket speed, chain inclination, seed cane box inclination, forward speed and cam's speed and repose angle were studied in the laboratory to determine the best structure and working parameters of the units. Furrowing, seeding and fertilization performances were evaluated in a field test. Experimental results showed that the furrow depth stability was above 89% at 540 r/min output speed of the tractor. The seeding depth of 20.8–21.8 cm was less than the furrowing depth of 30 cm. The qualified rate of seeding was 91%, and the seeding interval was within the range of 330–495 mm. The fertilization interval was stable at 113.5–117.1 mm when cam's repose angle was 38°, and the forward speed was I–III low gear. This planter only required approximately 4.4 t/ha seed canes, which was 51–75% lower than that for the traditional method. Its performance parameters indicated acceptable results.

Abstract:The aim of the study was to update the information pertaining to mechanized tree-planting activity in Finland in 2013 and its success factors. All businesses providing a mechanized tree-planting service were interviewed and asked to describe their equipment and activities, identify critical success factors (CSFs), and suggest areas for improvement. In 2013, 31 planting machines (18Â Bracke P11.a, 11 M-Planter and 2 Risutec) operated by 22 businesses planted approximately 4.7 million seedlings on 2663 hectares. CSFs included expertise of planting machine operators, high quality planting, adequate amount of work, stoniness, and removal of slash. Based on the survey, some recommendations for improving mechanized planting work can be made. Firstly, improving the cost-efficiency of mechanized planting is necessary to enhance businessesâ profitability. Secondly, worksite selection is crucial as stoniness, stumps and slash debris diminish productivity. Lastly, the popularity of mechanized planting in the future will benefit from more marketing. Many businesses were unwilling to increase the area of service, invest in new equipment, or increase the volume of planting work but they believed that mechanized planting will become more popular in the near future.

Abstract:Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, Ahead of Print. Soil desertification is a severe environmental problem that seriously threatens the ecological environment and sustainable development. Traditional tree-planting methods face challenges such as insufficient labor force and low efficiency. Based on these problems, this study designed a novel automatic planting-irrigation integrated robot with automatic planting, irrigating, and monitoring functions. The robot obtains land information through laser triangle ranging technology, the camera, and other sensors. Machine vision and deep learning algorithms are applied for image processing and identification to identify the areas suitable for tree planting accurately. The drip irrigation module adopts the DHT11 digital temperature and humidity sensor control switch, which can realize efficient tree planting and watering operation, and ensure the growth of saplings and has a broad application prospect. Our design is meaningful in restraining soil desertification, maintaining the ecological environment, and realizing a sustainable economy.

Abstract:In view of the problem of a large amount of stubble and straw in Southwest China, it is difficult to carry out no-tillage sowing operations. Based on the principle of supported cutting, a bi-directional rotating stubble-cutting no-tillage planter was designed. According to the extracted left and right mouth contours of Batocera horsfieldi (Hope), the blade curve of a bi-directional rotating cutterhead was designed. The discrete element models were established regarding ‘bi-directional rotating disc cutter, straw and soil’, ‘fertilizer apparatus and fertilizer’, and ‘opener and soil’ in the Extended-Domain-Eigenfunction Method (EDEM) software. The optimal working parameters were analyzed using a quadratic regression orthogonal rotation test and response surface methodology. Accordingly, the prototype was manufactured and the field performance test was carried out. The best working parameters of the machine were as follows: the forward speed of the machine was 0.9 m·s−1, the cutter spacing was 60 mm, the forward speed was 150 r·min−1, and the reverse speed was 313 r·min−1. The field experiment results showed that the average cutting rate of corn straw was 95.72% using the anti-blocking device when the straw mulching amount was 1.63 kg·m−2.The average sowing depth was 5.4 cm, the average fertilization depth was 10.1 cm, and the average seed–fertilizer spacing was 4.7 cm. The qualified rates of sowing depth, fertilization depth, and spacing were 88.89%, 100%, and 100%, respectively. The designed bi-directional rotating stubble-cutting no-tillage planter can meet the requirements of no-tillage sowing in Southwest China. This study can provide reference for the design and improvement of no-tillage planters under the conditions of a large amount of stubble and straw.
