Abstract:In this paper a target allocation method is developed, inspired by the Hungarian algorithm. The special weighting factors are introduced to sum up the applicant’s cost and benefit to solve the target assignment problem. The proposed algorithm is suitable for both square and non-square cost matrix and the time consumption is almost the same as that of the standard Hungarian algorithm. In order to verify the proposed algorithm, the numerical analysis is carried out in detail. The results show that the proposed target allocation algorithm is correct and effective.

Abstract:The k-assignment problem (or, the k-matching problem) on k-partite graphs is an NP-hard problem for k≥3. In this paper we introduce five new heuristics. Two algorithms, Bm and Cm, arise as natural improvements of Algorithm Am from (He et al., in: Graph Algorithms And Applications 2, World Scientific, 2004). The other three algorithms, Dm, Em, and Fm, incorporate randomization. Algorithm Dm can be considered as a greedy version of Bm, whereas Em and Fm are versions of local search algorithm, specialized for the k-matching problem. The algorithms are implemented in Python and are run on three datasets. On the datasets available, all the algorithms clearly outperform Algorithm Am in terms of solution quality. On the first dataset with known optimal values the average relative error ranges from 1.47% over optimum (algorithm Am) to 0.08% over optimum (algorithm Em). On the second dataset with known optimal values the average relative error ranges from 4.41% over optimum (algorithm Am) to 0.45% over optimum (algorithm Fm). Better quality of solutions demands higher computation times, thus the new algorithms provide a good compromise between quality of solutions and computation time.

Abstract:Abstract In this paper, we focus on the solution procedure for fully interval assignment problem (FIAP), Hungarian method is considered into account. In consideration method the given FIAP is decayed into Interval Assignment Problem, solving it with existing method and by using its optimal solutions, an optimal interval assignment solution to the given FIAP is obtained. Although the assignment problem can be solved as an ordinary transportation problem or as Linear programming problem, its unique structure can be exploited, resulting in special purpose algorithm, is called Hungarian method. A numerical example is provided to illustrate the solution procedure developed in this paper.

Abstract:Assignment Problem (AP) was well studied in the past 50 years, and is of great value in operations research and engineering. The Hungarian Method is one of the effective algorithms for the assignment problem. Although the assignment problem is well studied and a variety of algorithms are proposed, the efficiencies of the algorithms are never completely compared in the literature. In this paper, we summarize the properties of the assignment problem, and then survey its research history, add two new algorithms to existing classification, and compare the performances of these two algorithms with that of the Hungarian Method. The computational results show that the Hungarian Method can solve larger balanced assignment problems in engineering and is more efficient than the two algorithms involved, and the bidding algorithm is superior to solve unbalanced assignment problems.

Abstract:The assignment problem is important matter in the field of information technology, because It treats with assigning one of methods of managing a set of works estimated as (n) that are Symbolized (W1, W2, W3,.....Wn) by using one of available machines that are Symbolized (M1, M2, M3,.....Mn), with minimum cost which is counted by (∑Cij). There are several methods handling this case such as Hungarian‟s method. In this paper, will been use graphs by converting an assignment into a complete bipartite graph using Kruskal‟s Algorithm in order to find the minimum spanning tree, and obtaining the most optimal assignment. The results of various cases were compared, and the results were satisfying in both methods, whereas the method Kruscal‟s algorithm was easiest to have optimal solution.

Abstract:The existing fuzzy Hungary method for solving assignment problem with multi-objective constraints is complicated. An improved algorithm based on the idea of table-working is presented to overcome the shortcoming. It integrates the methods of maximal row margin, maximal column margin, local judgment and nonlinear membership transformer. In our algorithm, synthetic evaluation matrix is resolved by combining the method of maximal row margin (or maximal column margin) with formula of local judgment; the attribute value matrix can be transformed into fuzzy relationship synthetic matrix by the nonlinear fuzzy membership functions according to profit objective, cost objective, fixed objective, deviating objective and interval objective. The following examples are given to verify this algorithm: (1) the application of maximal row margin and local judgment when the number of projects is less or equal to the number of positions. (2) the application of maximal column margin and local judgment when the number of projects is more than the number of positions. Our algorithm is applicable to any combination of the number of projects and positions, and is more simple, practical, and reasonable.

Abstract:The existing Hungarian method for solving unbalanced assignment problems is based on the assumptions to assign some jobs to dummy or pseudo machines, those jobs assigned to dummy machines are actually left without execution. In real world situations one may be interested to execute all the jobs on actual machines. This purpose can be served by assigning multiple jobs to a single machine. The present paper proposes a Modified Hungarian Method for solving unbalanced assignment problems which gives the optimal policy of assignment of jobs to machines. A stepwise algorithm of proposed method is presented and the developed algorithm is also coded in Java SE 11. A numerical example is taken to demonstrate the performance and efficiency of the proposed method. The obtained result is then compared with several existing methods to show the superiority of our algorithm.

Abstract:The independent quadratic assignment problem is a variation of the well-known Koopmans-Beckman quadratic assignment problem. The model has a wide variety of applications but it is strongly NP-hard and is also hard to approximate. In this paper we present innovative and simple heuristic algorithms to optimize the problem based on the paradigms of local search, very large-scale neighborhood (VLSN) search, and local search with path-relinking. The performance of these algorithms are analyzed using results generated by extensive computational experiments. Our experimental study highlights that the strategies of path-relinking and VLSN search when worked in unison produced superior outcomes, outperforming algorithms that employ these strategies individually. This underscores the power of hybrid algorithmic approaches in solving complex optimization problems, in particular, the independent quadratic assignment problem. This is the first experimental study available on the independent quadratic assignment problem. We also have constructed (and made available) test instances with different characteristics which can be used as benchmarks in future experimental studies on the problem.

Abstract:The optimized assignment of staff is of great significance for improving the production efficiency of the society. For specific tasks, the key to optimizing staffing is personnel scheduling. The assignment problem is classical in the personnel scheduling. In this paper, we abstract it as an optimal matching model of a bipartite graph and propose the Ultimate Hungarian Algorithm(UHA). By introducing feasible labels, iteratively searching for the augmenting path to get the optimal match(maximum-weight matching). And we compare the algorithm with the traditional brute force method, then conclude that our algorithm has lower time complexity and can solve the problems of maximum-weight matching more effectively.

Abstract:The assignment method assigns a particular (employee) to a particular (work) "Assuming an equal number of jobs and workers." In this paper, we are introducing a pentagonal ranking method by which we can convert the cost values (Fuzzy numbers) of the Fuzzy Assignment Problem (FAP) into crisp values. By the Hungarian method, we can optimize the cost of the FAP. A numerical value illustrates the method.

Abstract:We introduce a new binary quadratic program that subsumes the well known quadratic assignment problem. This problem is shown to be NP-hard when some associated parameters are restricted to simple values but solvable in polynomial time when some other parameter values are restricted. Three different neighborhood structures are introduced. A best solution in all these neighborhoods can be identified in polynomial time even though two of these neighborhoods are of exponential size. Different local search algorithms and their enhancements using tabu search are developed using these neighborhoods. Experimental analysis show that two hybrid algorithms obtained by combining these neighborhoods in specific ways yield results that are superior to the algorithms that use these neighborhoods separately. Extensive computational results and statistical analysis of the resulting data are presented. Abstract:A special generalized assignment problem is presented.It considers the situation where m persons are assigned to n tasks,there are limits to the number of tasks each person can perform,the number of persons assigned to each task and the total number of assignments,one wish to find the optimal assignment of maximal benefit.The mathematical model of the problem is presented and a method is given to transform the generalized assignment problem to a balanced assignment problem,so it can be solved by traditional methods,e.g.Hungarian method.An example is provided to illustrate the method.
New Auction Algorithms for the Assignment Problem and Extensions

Abstract:We consider the classical linear assignment problem, and we introduce new auction algorithms for its optimal and suboptimal solution. The algorithms are founded on duality theory, and are related to ideas of competitive bidding by persons for objects and the attendant market equilibrium, which underlie real-life auction processes. We distinguish between two fundamentally different types of bidding mechanisms: aggressive and cooperative. Mathematically, aggressive bidding relies on a notion of approximate coordinate descent in dual space, an epsilon-complementary slackness condition to regulate the amount of descent approximation, and the idea of epsilon-scaling to resolve efficiently the price wars that occur naturally as multiple bidders compete for a smaller number of valuable objects. Cooperative bidding avoids price wars through detection and cooperative resolution of any competitive impasse that involves a group of persons. We discuss the relations between the aggressive and the cooperative bidding approaches, we derive new algorithms and variations that combine ideas from both of them, and we also make connections with other primal-dual methods, including the Hungarian method. Furthermore, our discussion points the way to algorithmic extensions that apply more broadly to network optimization, including shortest path, max-flow, transportation, and minimum cost flow problems with both linear and convex cost functions.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a distributed version of the Hungarian Method to solve the well known assignment problem. In the context of multi-robot applications, all robots cooperatively compute a common assignment that optimizes a given global criterion (e.g. the total distance traveled) within a finite set of local computations and communications over a peer-to-peer network. As a motivating application, we consider a class of multi-robot routing problems with "spatio-temporal" constraints, i.e. spatial targets that require servicing at particular time instants. As a means of demonstrating the theory developed in this paper, the robots cooperatively find online, suboptimal routes by applying an iterative version of the proposed algorithm, in a distributed and dynamic setting. As a concrete experimental test-bed, we provide an interactive "multi-robot orchestral" framework in which a team of robots cooperatively plays a piece of music on a so-called orchestral floor.

Abstract:Provide a method to solve the assignment problem with the shortest time limit and the least cost constraint in two steps.Firstly,get the shortest time using the Maximal Sum First Assignment algorithm combined with the bipartite gaph match algorithm. Secondly,given the shortest time limit,construct the bipartite weighted graph and use the minimum weighted assignment algorithm to get the solution. The method is simple and it is easy to be realized.

Abstract:We consider a matching problem in a bipartite graph $G=(A\cup B,E)$ where nodes in $A$ are agents having preferences in partial order over their neighbors, while nodes in $B$ are objects without preferences. We propose a polynomial-time combinatorial algorithm based on LP duality that finds a maximum matching or assignment in $G$ that is popular among all maximum matchings, if there exists one. Our algorithm can also be used to achieve a trade-off between popularity and cardinality by imposing a penalty on unmatched nodes in $A$. We also provide an $O^*(|E|^k)$ algorithm that finds an assignment whose unpopularity margin is at most $k$; this algorithm is essentially optimal, since the problem is $\mathsf{NP}$-complete and $\mathsf{W}_l[1]$-hard with parameter $k$. We also prove that finding a popular assignment of minimum cost when each edge has an associated binary cost is $\mathsf{NP}$-hard, even if agents have strict preferences. By contrast, we propose a polynomial-time algorithm for the variant of the popular assignment problem with forced/forbidden edges. Finally, we present an application in the context of housing markets.
