Abstract:This issue of the International Journal of Psychiatry in Medicine (IJPM)—56(5) September 2021, represents the 9th annual collaboration between IJPM and the Forum for Behavioral Sciences in Family Medicine (Forum). What is remarkable is that the 41st Forum was conducted virtually during the devastating world-wide SARS-CoV2/COVID-19 pandemic. The planning committee's decision to transition from the scheduled in-person meeting to a virtual format was not made lightly. On the surface, a professional educational conference supports scientific advancement and scholarly dissemination. Below the surface, such meetings foster connection and wellbeing, stimulate new projects, and combat burnout. These secondary agenda items seemed even more essential at a time when clinicians were stressed to the breaking point and simultaneously more isolated and functioning with reduced support. The planning committee and the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin were determined to provide a valuable conference that would be accessible despite public safety considerations, travel restrictions and limited continuing education funds.
