Abstract:Antillocladius anandae sp. n., A. itatiaia sp. n. and Litocladius neusae sp. n. from Brazil, and L. chavarriai sp. n. from Costa Rica are described and illustrated as males. In addition, new records of A. antecalvus Sæther, A. arcuatus Sæther, A. brazuca Mendes et Andersen, A. folius Mendes, Andersen et Sæther, A. musci Mendes, Andersen et Sæther and Litocladius floripa Mendes et Andersen are given. Including the new species described below Antillocladius Sæther now comprises 27 species from the Neotropical, Nearctic and Oriental zoogeographical regions, while Litocladius Mendes, Andersen et Sæther comprises 5 species from the Neotropical region.

Abstract:The genus Antillocladius Sæther, 1981 currently comprises 17 described species. In the present paper, seven new Brazilian species, A. atalaia sp. n., A. axitiosus sp. n., A. brazuca sp. n., A. campususp sp. n., A. gephyrus sp. n., A. plicatus sp. n., and A. ultimus sp. n. are described and illustrated as males, and Parametriocnemus subnubilus Sinharay et Chaudhuri, 1979 from India is transferred to Antillocladius. Two new species of the closely related genus, Litocladius Mendes, Andersen et Sæther, 2004, L. floripa sp. n. and L. confusus sp. n., are described and figured as males. Two new Neotropical genera are described and figured. Gravatamberus gen. n. with five included species, G. apicalus sp. n., G. curtus sp. n., G. guatemaltecus sp. n., G. nidularium sp. n., and G. pilosus sp. n., is based on larva, pupa, and male. Lyrocladius gen. n. with the single included species L. radulatus sp. n. is based on the male only. Keys to orthoclad genera with scalpellate acrostichals and to the males of the included genera are provided. According to the cladogram presented, three monophyletic groups can be recognized; one composed of Antillocladius, Litocladius and Lyrocladius; one composed of Compterosmittia Sæther, Hanocladius Wang et Sæther, Limnophyes Eaton and Paralimnophyes Brundin; and a third, composed of Gravatamberus, Genus H sensu Epler, and Gynocladius Mendes, Sæther et Andrade-Morraye.

Abstract:Rheocricotopus (Psilocricotopus) calviculus sp. n. and R. (P.) villiculus sp. n. from China are described as male imagines. The species are closely related to the previously described R. (P.) orientalis Wang forming a new group, the orientalis group, which eventually may deserve the rank of subgenus or even genus. The group is distinguished by lacking a humeral pit, numerous sensilla clavata on third palpomere, cuneiform wings, no or few setae on squama, long legs, banded abdomen, very long inferior volsella, gonocoxite with apical extensions, and gonostylus with a median triangular projection.

Abstract:Six new species of Chrysillini are described from Xizang, China: Chrysilla yarlungzangbo sp. nov. (♂), Icius faker sp. nov. (♂♀), I. han sp. nov. (♂♀), I. kui sp. nov. (♂♀), I. kulakangri sp. nov. (♂♀), I. zhengi sp. nov. (♂♀). In addition, a new combination is proposed: Nandicius gyirongensis (Hu, 2001) comb. nov. (♂♀) (transferred from Psenuc Prószyński, 2016), and the males of this species are described for the first time. Siler niser Caleb, Parag & Datta-Roy, 2023 (♂♀) is newly recorded in China.

Abstract:As part of a study on the inquilinous cynipids belonging to the tribe Synergini (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae: Cynipinae) in the Chinese fauna, we report in the present paper three species of the genus Ceroptres Hartig from that country, including C. masudai Abe, 1997 and two new species, C. distinctus sp. nov. and C. setosus sp. nov. In addition to detailed descriptions of the new species, we also provide an illustrated key to the species of the genus known from the Palaearctic region and a brief comparison between the Palaearctic and Nearctic Ceroptres species. Type specimens of the new species are deposited in the Parasitic Hymenoptera Collection, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China (ZJUH).

Abstract:The genus Arrhenoseius Walter & Lindquist, 2000 is recorded for the first time from the Oriental Realm on the basis of two new species. Arrhenoseius hallidayi sp. nov. can be distinguished from other species of the genus by the ventrianal shield bearing five pairs of ventral setae and unsclerotised ventro-lateral cuticle without setae in the adult female, and Arrhenoseius granulatus sp. nov. can be distinguished by the ventrianal shield bearing eight pairs of ventral setae and unsclerotised lateral cuticle with six pairs of setae. Abstract:Apalochrini is a tribe of the family Melyridae characterised by the shortened pedicel, with 13 genera recorded in China at present. Dicranolaius Champion and Intybia Pascoe of Apalochrini are distributed in Asia and Southeast Asia, with the former genus extending to Australia, but not being found in China. In a recent expedition in the mangrove forests of Zhangzhou City (Fujian Province), eastern China, specimens of D. mangalicola Asano & Kawashima, 2010 and I. swatowensis (Wittmer, 1956) were collected.Dicranolaius Champion is recorded from China for the first time and I. swatowensis is newly recorded for Fujian Province. Diagnostic characters of D. mangalicola is provided and I. swatowensis is re-described in details. An updated key to genera of the Chinese Apalochrini, based on male characters, is given.

Abstract:The Neotropical species of the genera Pseudosmittia Edwards, 1932 and Allocladius Kieffer, 1913 are described or redescribed, short generic diagnoses are given, and keys to the males presented. The following new species are described and figured as male imagines: Allocladius globosus, A. quadrus, A. scrotus, Pseudosmittia adunca, P. amorimi, P. cambuciensis, P. carioca, P. catarinense, P. gibbistyla, P. invirgata, P. lamasi, P. lamellata, P. magdae, P. nana, P. palpina, P. paulista, P. pinhoi, P. roquei, P. tropis, P. umbonata, and P. uncata. Abstract:A new genus of malachiine Melyridae , Platyintybia gen. nov. , is described based on several male-specific characters, along with description of its type species, Platyintybia zhongshanensis sp. nov. , from China. A new combination, Platyintybia sarawakensis (Champion, 1921), comb. nov. , is proposed after examining the type specimen; this species is newly recorded from China. A key to the genera of Chinese Apalochrini is provided for the first time.

Abstract:Diagnoses of the female, pupa, and larva of Gynocladius n. gen. are given. Gynocladius scalpellosus sp. n. from Brazil is described from the female, pupa, and larva. A preliminary phylogenetic analysis places the genus as the sister group of Hanocladius Wang and Sæther from China and intermediate between Antillocladius Sæther and Compterosmittia Sæther. The females are apparently parthenogenetic.

The Chironomidae (Diptera) of Svalbard and Jan Mayen

Abstract:Non-biting midges of the fly family Chironomidae are extremely abundant and diverse in Arctic regions and are essential components of Arctic ecosystems. Modern identification tools based on documented records of Arctic chironomid species are therefore important for ecological research and environmental monitoring in the region. Here, we provide an updated review of the chironomid fauna of the Svalbard archipelago and the island of Jan Mayen, Norway. Our results show that a total of 73 species distributed across 24 genera in four subfamilies are known from these areas. Our review treats 109 taxa, including nomina dubia and misidentifications. It includes morphological identification keys to all known species as well as photographs of most taxa and DNA barcodes of 66 species. Taxonomic remarks are given for selected taxa, including previous misidentifications and erroneous records. Chironomus islandicus, Tvetenia bavarica, Limnophyes schnelli, Metriocnemus brusti and Metriocnemus fuscipes as well as the genera Allocladius, Corynoneura and Bryophaenocladius are reported from Svalbard for the first time, while Procladius (Holotanypus) frigidus, Stictochironomus psilopterus, Chaetocladius incertus, Orthocladius (Orthocladius) mixtus and Smittia longicosta, previously considered as junior synonyms or nomina dubia, are revived as valid species based on examination of type material or literature. Twenty species within eleven genera are introduced with interim names. Metriocnemus similis is regarded as a junior synonym of Metriocnemus ursinus, and Smittia incerta, Smittia flexinervis and Smittia spitzbergensis are regarded as nomina dubia. Valid taxa no longer considered as part of the Svalbard fauna are Parochlus kiefferi, Arctopelopia barbitarsis, Procladius (Holotanypus) crassinervis, Diamesa lindrothi, Diamesa incallida, Diamesa lundstromi, Chironomus hyperboreus, Sergentia coracina, Camptocladius stercorarius, Chaetocladius dissipatus, Chaetocladius dentiforceps, Chaetocladius laminatus, Chaetocladius perennis, Cricotopus (Cricotopus) humeralis, Cricotopus (Cricotopus) polaris, Hydrosmittia ruttneri, Limnophyes edwardsi, Metriocnemus picipes, Metriocnemus tristellus, Orthocladius (Eudactylocladius) gelidus, Orthocladius (Euorthocladius) thienemanni, Orthocladius (Orthocladius) obumbratus, Orthocladius (Orthocladius) rhyacobius, Paralimnophyes, Paraphaenocladius impensus, Psectrocladius (Monopsectrocladius) calcaratus, Psectrocladius (Psectrocladius) psilopterus, Psectrocladius (Psectrocladius) ventricosus, Smittia lasiophthalma, Smittia lasiops and Zalutschia tatrica.

Abstract:A new genus of chrysilline jumping spiders, Qingattus gen. nov., is established for a new species from southern China: Qingattus wulan spec. nov. (♂♀). Three other new species of Chrysillini are described: Heliophanoides ultramarine spec. nov. (♂♀), Phintella chunfen spec. nov. (♂) and P. yi spec. nov. (♂). Newly recorded from China are Cosmophasis ombria (Thorell, 1877) (♂♀), Heliophanus chovdensis Prószyński, 1982 (♂♀), and Okinawicius tokarensis (Bohdanowicz & Prószyński, 1987) (♂♀).

Abstract:Abstract Limnophyes palleocestus sp. n., L. verpus sp. n. and L. bullus sp. n. are described as male and female imago; L. orbicristatus sp. n., and L. opimus sp. n. as male imago. The new species all belong in the minimus group. L. orbicristatus occurs in the Oriental region, L. opimus in the Palaearctic region, while the other species are present in both regions with L. verpus recorded also from North Korea. New records are given for L. asquamatus Andersen, L. brachytomus (Kieffer), L. minimus (Meigen) (with a new record from Burma), and L. difficilis Brundin.

Abstract:Abstract. Orthocladius (Orthocladius) is a subgenus of one of the more speciose genera amongst the Holarctic chironomids of the subfamily Orthocladiinae. Although many names have been applied, adult males are difficult to distinguish. However, the immature stages often are known, and pupae discriminate taxa reliably. Based predominantly upon examination of exuviae, Orthocladius atripluma Kieffer and Orthocladius mitisi Goetghebuer are syn.n. of Orthocladius glabripennis (Goetghebuer); Orthocladius smolandicus Brundin a syn.n. of Orthocladius holsatus Goetghebuer; Orthocladius lenzi Kieffer a syn.n. of Orthocladius oblidens (Walker); Orthocladius rhyacobius Kieffer, Orthocladius rhyacophilus Kieffer and Orthocladius excavatus Brundin are syn.n. of Orthocladius obumbratus Johannsen; Orthocladius saxicola Kieffer and Orthocladius curtiseta Sæther are syn.n. of Orthocladius rubicundus (Meigen). Orthocladius (Orthocladius) vaillanti is described as sp.n., based upon distinctive pupal exuviae. Lectotypes are designated for Orthocladius rhyacobius Kieffer, Orthocladius rhyacophilus Kieffer, Orthocladius rivinus Kieffer, Chironomus rubicundus Meigen and Orthocladius saxicola Kieffer. Abstract:A new subgenus, Nothorthocladius, of the genus Orthocladius v. d. Wulp and a new genus Yaethauma which bears a superficially resemblance to Collartomyia Goethgebuer of the subfamily Chironominae are erected, and the subgeneric and generic diagnoses are provided here. Orthocladius (Nothorthocladius) brevistylus sp. n. is described based on a single male and Yaethauma longiligulata sp. n. is described in both sexes. The former species is characterized from any other orthoclads by having the short gonostylus fused to gonocoxite. The species is treated as a member belonging to the genus Orthocladius based on various morphological features. The latter species is distinguishable from two other members of Collartomyia species by having the antepronotal lobe distinctly narrowed dorsally, the long ligula being sclerotized on the dorsolateral surface along outer margin, and the distinctly bifurcated pulvilli. Furthermore, in the male, the long and spindle-shaped anal point, the short and ovoid gonostylus, the long and distally expanded median appendage, the short and dorsolaterally elongate laterosternite, the plate-like apodeme lobe and the spermatheca bearing sclerotized neck in the female will be sufficiently separated from any described genera clearly.
