Abstract:The onset of commercial revolution introduced pollutants to the water and soil environment. Events such as fossil burning, quarrying, welding of metal-bearing ores, and sewage disposal, fertilizers as well as pesticides added toxic substances to the surroundings. Traditional approaches of remediation are not cost effective and suitable, yet they sometimes cause additional environmental health hazards rather than offering solution. Researchers around the world are working effectively to find a viable, inexpensive new technique of cleaning the atmosphere. A plant-based treatment approach called Phytoremediation seems promising for handling a wide range of problems caused by anthropogenic pollution. The economic feasibility, applicability, and efficacy of this method will be discussed in this chapter. This critique also reviews the gain and loss linked with the technique over other means of traditional remediation.
