Abstract:We propose a scheme to implement two-bit quantum phase gates and one-bit unitary gates by using the two-mode two-photon Jaynes-Cummings model. The entanglement between the atom and cavity is also investigated in the presence of phase decoherence. It is found that there is stationary entanglement that is sensitive with the detuning.

Abstract:We propose a method to implement cavity QED and quantum-information processing in high-Q cavities with a single trapped but nonlocalized atom. The system is beyond the Lamb-Dicke limit due to the atomic thermal motion. Our method is based on adiabatic passages, which make the relevant dynamics insensitive to the randomness of the atom position with an appropriate interaction configuration. The validity of this method is demonstrated from both approximate analytical calculations and exact numerical simulations. We also discuss various applications of this method based on the current experimental technology.

Abstract:In this paper we implement a simple quantum algorithm using polarization and transverse spatial modes of the electromagnetic field as qubits. The transverse spatial modes used are the Laguerre–Gaussian and Hermite–Gaussian beams of order N = 1. With these two qubits carried by the same photon, we have implemented the Deutsch algorithm using a simple linear optical setup.

Abstract:Kitaev model has both Abelian and non-Abelian anyonic excitations. It can act as a starting point for topological quantum computation. However, this model Hamiltonian is difficult to implement in natural condensed matter systems. Here we propose a quantum simulation scheme by constructing the Kitaev model Hamiltonian in a lattice of coupled cavities with embedded Λ-type three-level atoms. In this scheme, several parameters are tunable, for example, via external laser fields. Importantly, our scheme is based on currently existing technologies and it provides a feasible way of realizing the Kitaev model to explore topological excitations.

Abstract:We propose a scheme to prepare the Bell states for atomic qubits trapped in separate optical cavities via atom-cavity-laser interaction. The quantum information of each qubit is encoded on the degenerate ground states of the atom, so the entanglement between them is relatively stable against spontaneous emission. The proposed scheme consists of a Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) with two arms, and each arm contains a cavity with an N-type atom in it. It requires two classical fields and a single-photon source. By controlling the sequence and time of atom-cavity-laser interaction, the deterministic production of the atomic Bell states is shown. We also introduce the generalization of the present scheme to generate the 2N-atom Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger state.

Abstract:The Deutsch-Jozsa algorithm is experimentally demonstrated for three-qubit functions using pure coherent superpositions of Li$_{2}$ rovibrational eigenstates. The function's character, either constant or balanced, is evaluated by first imprinting the function, using a phase-shaped femtosecond pulse, on a coherent superposition of the molecular states, and then projecting the superposition onto an ionic final state, using a second femtosecond pulse at a specific time delay.

Abstract:We describe the experimental implementation of a recently proposed quantum algorithm involving quantum entanglement at the level of two qubits using NMR. The algorithm solves a generalisation of the Deutsch problem and distinguishes between even and odd functions using fewer function calls than is possible classically. The manipulation of entangled states of the two qubits is essential here, unlike the Deutsch-Jozsa algorithm and the Grover's search algorithm for two bits.

Abstract:The nitrogen-vacancy defect center (NV center) is a promising candidate for quantum information processing due to the possibility of coherent manipulation of individual spins in the absence of the cryogenic requirement. We report a room-temperature implementation of the Deutsch-Jozsa algorithm by encoding both a qubit and an auxiliary state in the electron spin of a single NV center. By thus exploiting the specific S=1 character of the spin system, we demonstrate how even scarce quantum resources can be used for test-bed experiments on the way towards a large-scale quantum computing architecture.

Cavity Quantum Electrodynamics with Atom Arrays in Free Space

Abstract:Cavity quantum electrodynamics (cavity QED) enables the control of light-matter interactions at the single-photon level, rendering it a key component of many quantum technologies. Its practical realization, however, is complex since it involves placing individual quantum emitters close to mirror surfaces within a high-finesse cavity. In this work, we propose a cavity QED architecture fully based on atoms trapped in free space. In particular, we show that a pair of two-dimensional, ordered arrays of atoms can be described by conventional cavity QED parameters. Such an atom-array cavity exhibits the same cooperativity as a conventional counterpart with matching mirror specifications even though the cavity coupling strength and decay rate are modified by the narrow bandwidth of the atoms. We estimate that an array cavity composed of $^{87}\mathrm{Rb}$ atoms in an optical lattice can reach a cooperativity of about $10$. This value can be increased suppressing atomic motion with larger trap depths and may exceed $10^4$ with an ideal placement of the atoms. To reduce the experimental complexity of our scheme, we propose a spatially dependent AC Stark shift as an alternative to curving the arrays, which may be of independent interest. In addition to presenting a promising platform for cavity QED, our work creates opportunities for exploring novel phenomena based on the intrinsic nonlinearity of atom arrays and the possibility to dynamically control them.

Abstract:We show how realistic cavity-assisted interaction between neutral atoms and coherent optical pulses, and measurement techniques, combined with optical transportation of atoms, allow for a universal set of quantum gates acting on decoherence--free subspace in a deterministic way. The logical qubits are immunized to the dominant source of decoherece-dephasing, while the influences of additional errors are shown by numerical simulations. We analyze the performance and stability of all required operations and emphasize that all techniques are feasible with current experimental technology.

Abstract:Deutsch's algorithm is the simplest quantum algorithm which shows the acceleration of quantum computer. In this paper, we theoretically advance a scheme to implement quantum Deutsch's algorithm in spin-orbital angular momentum space. Our scheme exploits a newly developed optical device called "q-plate", which can couple and manipulate the spin-orbital angular momentum simultaneously. This experimental setup is of high stability and efficiency theoretically for there is no interferometer in it.

Abstract:Design of a large-scale quantum computer has paramount importance for science and technologies. We investigate a scheme for realization of quantum algorithms using noncomposite quantum systems, i.e., systems without subsystems. In this framework, n artificially allocated “subsystems” play a role of qubits in n-qubits quantum algorithms. With focus on two-qubit quantum algorithms, we demonstrate a realization of the universal set of gates using a d=5 single qudit state. Manipulation with an ancillary level in the systems allows effective implementation of operators from U(4) group via operators from SU(5) group. Using a possible experimental realization of such systems through anharmonic superconducting many-level quantum circuits, we present a blueprint for a single qudit realization of the Deutsch algorithm, which generalizes previously studied realization based on the virtual spin representation (Kessel et al., 2002 [9]).

Abstract:Time-Frequency Resolved Coherent Anti-Stokes Raman Scattering (TFRCARS) was recently proposed as a means to implement quantum logic using the molecular ro-vibrational manifold as a quantum register [R. Zadoyan et al., Chem. Phys. 266, 323 (2001)]. We give a concrete example of how this can be accomplished through an illustrative algorithm that solves the Deutsch-Jozsa problem. We use realistic molecular parameters to recognize that, as the problem size expands, shaped pulses must be tailored to maintain fidelity of the algorithm.

Different from previous studies, we have used the inductance coupled system of You et al. The detailed pulse sequences have been designed for the four possible functions in a 2-qubit system. The result is generalized to an arbitrary n-qubit system. This scheme will be useful for practical implementation of the algorithm.

Abstract:We propose an experimental feasible scheme for implementing two-qubit quantum phase gate with atoms trapped in an optical cavity. The scheme is based on the dispersive interaction between the optical cavity mode and the three-level atoms in Λ configuration, which has been demonstrated in recent cavity-induced spin squeezing experiment (Leroux et al., 2010) [26]. We also discuss the influence of the cavity decay on the gate fidelity. It is shown that the fidelity of the phase gate is robust to the cavity decay and the high-fidelity quantum phase gate can be implemented with the current experimental technology.
