Abstract:Reading has often been taught as a static and isolated process. To be engaged readers, students need to be given opportunities to voice and share their thoughts of the reading materials. However, the current approach in teaching reading focuses more on the end product that is lifting specific information to answer the questions at the end of the reading passage. This top–down model not only has hindered students’ development in reading, but also has impeded their engagement in reading. This study explores the integration of writing with reading through the social networking site. One intact class of diploma students was selected randomly. Data were obtained through in-class and out-of class observation as well as from students’ responses of their reading materials. The findings obtained are illustrated that they enjoyed the space provided to share their thoughts and opinions of the reading materials assigned to them. The students participated openly and actively via the medium provided. They began to develop their identity as readers. The study highlights the potential usefulness of integrating writing in a reading classroom.
