Abstract:Johannes Schmidt is an associate professor in energy and resource economics at the Institute of Sustainable Economic Development, BOKU University Vienna in Austria, where he has been studying (renewable) energy systems since the start of his doctoral studies in 2007. He combines economic, technical, and socio-ecological aspects in his energy system modeling approaches, incorporating energy system perspectives from the Global North and the Global South. Sebastian Wehrle is a research fellow at the Institute of Sustainable Economic Development at BOKU University Vienna and heads the quantitative strategic analysis team at Wien Energie, Austria’s largest energy service provider. Sebastian’s research interests lie in energy and environmental economics, particularly the social cost and benefit of future energy system configurations. He has over 15 years of experience providing strategic advice to utilities, distribution system operators, and public authorities. He holds a degree in economics from the University of Vienna and is a PhD candidate at BOKU. Olga Turkovska is a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Sustainable Economic Development at BOKU University Vienna and has previously been working at the International Institute for Supplied Systems Analysis in Laxenburg, Austria. She mainly assesses the role of land use in the transition to low-carbon systems to inform more effective environmental and energy strategies. Peter Regner is a researcher at the Institute of Sustainable Economic Development, BOKU University Vienna, where he has been contributing since 2018. He earned his master’s degree in technical mathematics from TU Vienna in 2012. From 2013 to 2018, he worked as a software developer with a focus on mathematics and physics. Despite his theoretical background in algorithms and data science, his research passion lies in applying these principles to the field of renewable energy.
