Abstract:In this paper we study a contracting flow of closed, convex hypersurfaces in the Euclidean space ℝ^n+1 with speed f r^α K, where K is the Gauss curvature, r is the distance from the hypersurface to the origin, and f is a positive and smooth function. If α≥ n+1, we prove that the flow exists for all time and converges smoothly after normalisation to a soliton, which is a sphere centred at the origin if f ≡ 1. Our argument provides a parabolic proof in the smooth category for the classical Aleksandrov problem, and resolves the dual q-Minkowski problem introduced by Huang, Lutwak, Yang and Zhang (Acta Math. 216 (2016): 325-388), for the case q<0. If α < n+1, corresponding to the case q>0, we also establish the same results for even function f and origin-symmetric initial condition, but for non-symmetric f, counterexample is given for the above smooth convergence.

Abstract:In this paper, we study a class of contracting flows of closed, convex hypersurfaces in the Euclidean space $${\mathbb {R}}^{n+1}$$ with speed $$r^{\alpha } \sigma _k$$, where $$\sigma _k$$ is the k-th elementary symmetric polynomial of the principal curvatures, $$\alpha \in {\mathbb {R}}^1$$, and r is the distance from the hypersurface to the origin. If $$\alpha \ge k+1$$, we prove that the flow exists for all time, preserves the convexity and converges smoothly after normalisation to a sphere centred at the origin. If $$\alpha <k+1$$, a counterexample is given for the above convergence. In the case $$k=1$$ and $$\alpha \ge 2$$, we also prove that the flow converges to a round point if the initial hypersurface is weakly mean-convex and star-shaped.

Abstract:In this paper we study the regularity and singularity of the mean curvature flow of closed, smooth, embedded hypersurfaces in the Euclidean space with positive mean curvature, with an attempt to understand the geometry of first time singularities. First we consider the mean curvature flow of graphs and convex hypersurfaces. Then we consider the special blow-up solutions at the maximal mean curvature points and obtain self-similar solutions at type I singularities and translating solutions at type II singularities. Finally we show that a general blow-up sequence converges along a subsequence to a convex limit flow, and give a classification of ancient convex solutions. 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification: 53C44, 53A10, 35J60.

Abstract:We consider a shrinking flow of smooth, closed, uniformly convex hypersurfaces in (n+1)-dimensional Euclidean space with speed fu^{alpha}{sigma}_n^{beta}, where u is the support function of the hypersurface, alpha, beta are two constants, and beta>0, sigma_n is the n-th symmetric polynomial of the principle curvature radii of the hypersurface. We prove that the flow has a unique smooth and uniformly convex solution for all time, and converges smoothly after normalisation, to a soliton which is a solution of an elliptic equation, when the constants alpha, beta belong to a suitable range, provided the initial hypersuface is origin-symmetric and f is a smooth positive even function on S^n. For the case alpha>= 1+n*beta, beta>0, we prove that the flow converges smoothly after normalisation to a unique smooth solution of an elliptic equation without any constraint on the initial hypersuface and smooth positive function f. When beta=1, our argument provides a uniform proof to the existence of the solutions to the equation of L_p Minkowski problem for p belongs to (-n-1,+infty).

Abstract:We consider a gradient flow generated by a complex Hessian functional which is defined on compact Kahler manifolds. By setting up the a priori estimates of the admissible solutions, we prove the long-time existence of the solution to the flow and its convergence. Thus we show the functional admits a local minimal point in the space of admissible functions. As its application, we show the solvability of a class of complex Hessian equations.

Abstract: In this paper, we study the $L_p$-Gaussian Minkowski problem, which arises in the $L_p$-Brunn-Minkowski theory in Gaussian probability space. We use Aleksandrov's variational method with Lagrange multipliers to prove the existence of the logarithmic Gauss Minkowski problem. We construct a suitable Gauss curvature flow of closed, convex hypersurfaces in the Euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$, and prove its long-time existence and converges smoothly to a smooth solution of the normalized $L_p$ Gaussian Minkowski problem in cases of $p>0$ and $-n-1<p\leq 0$ with even prescribed function respectively. We also provide a parabolic proof in the smooth category to the $L_p$-Gaussian Minkowski problem in cases of $p\geq n+1$ and $0<p<n+1$ with even prescribed function, respectively.

Abstract:Let X be a smooth subvariety of CP^N. We study a flow, called balancing flow, on the space of projectively equivalent embeddings of X, which attempts to deform the given embedding into a balanced one. If L->X is an ample line bundle, considering embeddings via H^0(L^k) gives a sequence of balancing flows. We prove that, provided these flows are started at appropriate points, they converge to Calabi flow for as long as it exists. This result is the parabolic analogue of Donaldson's theorem relating balanced embeddings to metrics with constant scalar curvature [JDG 59(3):479-522, 2001]. In our proof we combine Donaldson's techniques with an asymptotic result of Liu-Ma [arXiv:math/0601260v2] which, as we explain, describes the asymptotic behaviour of the derivative of the map FS\circ Hilb whose fixed points are balanced metrics.
Volume preserving nonhomogeneous Gauss curvature flow in hyperbolic space

Abstract:We consider the volume preserving flow of smooth, closed and convex hypersurfaces in the hyperbolic space $\mathbb{H}^{n+1}$ with speed given by a general nonhomogeneous function of the Gauss curvature. For a large class of speed functions, we prove that the solution of the flow remains convex, exists for all positive time $t\in [0,\infty)$ and converges to a geodesic sphere exponentially as $t\to\infty$ in the smooth topology. A key step is to show the $L^1$ oscillation decay of the Gauss curvature to its average along a subsequence of times going to the infinity, which combined with an argument using the hyperbolic curvature measure theory implies the Hausdorff convergence.

A fully nonlinear locally constrained curvature flow for capillary hypersurface

Abstract:In this article, we study a locally constrained fully nonlinear curvature flow for convex capillary hypersurfaces in half-space. We prove that the flow preserves the convexity, exists for all time, and converges smoothly to a spherical cap. This can be viewed as the fully nonlinear counterpart of the result in \cite{MWW}. As a byproduct, a high-order capillary isoperimetric ratio (1.6) evolves monotonically along this flow, which yields a class of the Alexandrov-Fenchel inequalities.

Abstract:We consider an expanding flow of smooth, closed, uniformly convex hypersurfaces in (n+1)-dimensional Euclidean space with speed fu^{alpha}{sigma}_k^{beta}, where u is the support function of the hypersurface, alpha, beta are two constants, and beta>0, sigma_k is the k-th symmetric polynomial of the principle curvature radii of the hypersurface, k is an integer and 1<= k<= n. We prove that the flow has a unique smooth and uniformly convex solution for all time, and converges smoothly after normalisation, to a soliton which is a solution of a elliptic equation, when the constants alpha, beta belong to a suitable range, and the function f satisfies a strictly spherical convexity condition. When beta=1, the soliton equation is just the equation of Lp Christoffel-Minkowski problem. Thus our argument provides a proof to the well-known L_p Christoffel-Minkowski problem for the case p>= k+1 where p=2-alpha, which is identify with Ivaki's recent result.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the contracting curvature flows of smooth closed surfaces in 3-dimensional hyperbolic space and in 3-dimensional sphere. In the hyperbolic case, we show that if the initial surface $$M_0$$ has positive scalar curvature, then along the flow by a positive power $$\alpha $$ of the mean curvature H, the evolving surface $$M_t$$ has positive scalar curvature for $$t>0$$ . By assuming $$\alpha \in [1,4]$$ , we can further prove that $$M_t$$ contracts a point in finite time and become spherical as the final time is approached. We also show the same conclusion for the flows by powers of scalar curvature and by powers of Gauss curvature provided that the power $$\alpha \in [1/2,1]$$ . In the sphere case, we show that the flow by a positive power $$\alpha $$ of mean curvature contracts strictly convex surface in $$\mathbb {S}^3$$ to a round point in finite time if $$\alpha \in [1,5]$$ . The same conclusion also holds for the flow by powers of Gauss curvature provided that the power $$\alpha \in [1/2,1]$$ .

Abstract:In this paper, we study fully nonlinear curvature flows of noncompact spacelike hypersurfaces in Minkowski space. We prove that if the initial hypersurface satisfies certain conditions, then the flow exists for all time. Moreover, we show that after rescaling the flow converges to the future timelike hyperboloid, which is a self-expander.

Abstract:In this paper, by using new auxiliary functions, we study a class of contracting flows of closed, star-shaped hypersurfaces in Rn+1 with speed rαβσk1β, where σk is the k-th elementary symmetric polynomial of the principal curvatures, α, β are positive constants and r is the distance from points on the hypersurface to the origin. We obtain convergence results under some assumptions of k, α, β. When k≥2, 0<β≤1, α≥β+k, we prove that the k-convex solution to the flow exists for all time and converges smoothly to a sphere after normalization, in particular, we generalize Li-Sheng-Wang's result from uniformly convex to k-convex. When k≥2, β=k, α≥2k, we prove that the k-convex solution to the flow exists for all time and converges smoothly to a sphere after normalization, in particular, we generalize Ling Xiao's result from k=2 to k≥2.

Abstract:In this paper, we first investigate the flow of convex surfaces in the space form ℝ^3(κ ) (κ =0,1,-1) expanding by F^-α , where F is a smooth, symmetric, increasing and homogeneous of degree one function of the principal curvatures of the surfaces and the power α∈ (0,1] for κ =0,-1 and α =1 for κ =1 . By deriving that the pinching ratio of the flow surface M_t is no greater than that of the initial surface M_0 , we prove the long time existence and the convergence of the flow. No concavity assumption of F is required. We also show that for the flow in ℍ^3 with α∈ (0,1) , the limit shape may not be necessarily round after rescaling.

Abstract:Abstract In this paper, we investigate closed strictly convex hypersurfaces in ℝn+1{\mathbb{R}^{n+1}} which shrink self-similarly under a large family of fully nonlinear curvature flows by high powers of curvature. When the speed function is given by powers of a homogeneous of degree 1 and inverse concave function of the principal curvatures with power greater than 1, we prove that the only such hypersurfaces are round spheres. We also prove that slices are the only closed strictly convex self-similar solutions to such curvature flows in the hemisphere 𝕊+n+1{\mathbb{S}^{n+1}_{+}} with power greater than or equal to 1.

Abstract:A variant of the Gauss curvature flow for closed and convex hypersurfaces is considered. We reveal that if the initial hypersurface is pinched enough, then this property is preserved. Furthermore, based on some structure assumptions on the speed function of the shrinking flow, we show that the flow converges to a sphere. This may generalize the result of B. Chow\cite{CW85} to the possible non-homogeneous curvature flows.

Abstract:In this paper, we concern a generalized fully nonlinear curvature flow involving $k$-th elementary symmetric function for principal curvature radii in Eulidean space $\rnnn$, $k$ is an integer and $1\leq k\leq n-1$. For $1\leq k< n-1$, based on some initial data and constrains on smooth positive function defined on the unit sphere $\sn$, we obtain the long time existence and convergence of the flow. Especially, the same result shall be derived for $k=n-1$ without any constraint on the smooth positive function.

Abstract:We consider the Gauss curvature type flow for uniformly convex hypersurfaces in the hyperbolic space $\mathbb{H}^{n+1}\ (n\geqslant 2)$. We prove that if the initial closed hypersurface is smooth and uniformly convex, then the smooth solution exists for all positive time and converges smoothly and exponentially to a geodesic sphere centered at the origin. The key step is to prove the upper bound of Gauss curvature and that uniform convexity preserves along the flow. As an application, we provide a new proof for an Alexandrov-Fenchel inequality comparing $(n-2)$th quermassintegral and volume of convex domains in $\mathbb{H}^{n+1}\ (n\geqslant 2)$.

Abstract:We prove the short-time existence of the hyperbolic inverse (mean) curvature flow (with or without the specified forcing term) under the assumption that the initial compact smooth hypersurface of ℝ n +1 ( n ⩾ 2) is mean convex and star-shaped. Several interesting examples and some hyperbolic evolution equations for geometric quantities of the evolving hypersurfaces are shown. Besides, under different assumptions for the initial velocity, we can get the expansion and the convergence results of a hyperbolic inverse mean curvature flow in the plane ℝ 2 , whose evolving curves move normally.

Abstract:In this paper we introduce a new geometric flow — the hyperbolic gradientflow for graphs in the (n+1)-dimensional Euclidean space ℝ^n+1.This kind of flow is new and very natural to understand the geometry ofmanifolds. We particularly investigate the global existence of the evolution ofconvex hypersurfaces in ℝ^n+1 and the evolution of plane curves,and prove that, under the hyperbolic gradient flow, they converge to thehyperplane and the straight line, respectively, when t goes to the infinity.Our results show that the theory of shock waves of hyperbolic conservation lawscan be naturally applied to do surgery on manifolds. Some fundamental but openproblems are also given.
