Abstract:Estimating seismic wavelets is crucial in seismic processing and interpretation procedures, such as seismic well-tie and deconvolution. However, extracting the pulse from seismic data is not trivial, and idealized wavelets are commonly applied in seismic interpretation, such as the Ricker, Gabor, or Ormsby wavelets, which can be considered inaccurate. Methods used to estimate wavelets can be distinguished into deterministic – relying on well-log data – or statistical, which involves a geophysical inversion. Here, a deep-learning model based on a Multilayer Perceptron neural network (MLP) was proposed to predict accurate wavelets using only the seismic trace. The MLP is trained using synthetic traces generated based on the convolutional model. The neural network demonstrated that can predict a suitable wavelet in the test dataset with similar frequency content between the predicted and observed wavelet. Next, seismic wavelets were extracted from the 3D seismic cube F3-Block to verify if the NN predicted could be used in a seismic well-tie task. Once the wavelets were obtained, two synthetic traces were generated, one using a Ricker wavelet and the other using the wavelet predicted by the algorithm, and compared with the trace that presents the highest correlation. The synthetic trace created using the predicted wavelet by the NN displays the best result in both cases.
