Abstract:Through making questionnaire investigation on 169 junior athletes and using the method of statistics such as correlative analysis,step regression analysis and route analysis,this paper established mental stress model of junior athletes.The result showed that stress source,coping style and social support were the main factors that influencing on condition pre-competition of junior athletes.Coping style was the mediator factor of mental stress reaction of junior athletes.Social support can help to reduce state anxiety,improve state confidence.

Abstract:In recent years, there has been much discussion about the need for using the key performance indicators, in order to guide training and consequently, competition. Some studies used the game action efficacy, the match result or the classification as a reference, while others used player’s or coach’s perception of performance. Thus, a predictive study with the aim to analyze several performance indicators in volleyball formative stages, was realized. The sample consisted of 164 players from all 16 teams (male and female) of an Under-16 volleyball league. Dependent variables: game action efficacy, classification and player’s perceived performance. Independent variables: procedural knowledge, decision-making, motivation and basic psychological needs. The results of the regression analysis showed that game action efficacy and classification were predicted only by cognitive variables (knowledge and decision-making), while players’ perceived performance was predicted by the basic need of relatedness. The different performance indicators appear to measure different realities, being predicted by different variables. Mixed methods could provide a better understanding of performance than a single analytic approach alone, combining descriptions from the inside and from the outside.

Psychological Preparation of Chinese Women's Volleyball Team for Intense Competition

Abstract:Based on the theory of psychological training and its application in practice, and the present experience of the Chinese Women's Volleyball team, the essay draws the conclusion that psychological training is essential in the whole process , including the selection of athletes, daily training plans; individual training and above all the cooperation of the whole team's performance in important matches, sets, and even in gaining a single point, of preparing high level sports teams for varieties of important competitions. Besides, the article sums up and expounds the successful experience of psychological preparation of the Chinese Women's volleyball team , providing several approaches to psychological preparation, which are appropriate for the athletic training and the management of high level athletes in China.

Abstract:Performance in team sports is the result of a dynamic and interactive process between two opposing teams. The aim of this study was to examine the performance of volleyball players executing terminal actions (i.e. serve, attack, block and counter-attack) in terms of match quality. Three hundred and seven sets were selected randomly from U14s up to Olympic level and analysed according to type of match: balanced (strong vs. strong, and weak vs. weak teams) and unbalanced matches (strong vs. weak). The variables analysed were: competition category, frequency of use and coefficient of efficacy for each technical–tactical action, and way of execution in terms of match quality. A K-means cluster analysis was performed to divide teams into two groups according to quality (stronger or weaker teams). The change between the types of match was estimated by means of effect size at 90% confidence intervals. Few and small differences between balanced and unbalanced matches were found. Most changes were related to play style, and happened in balanced matches and in initial age categories. The findings may be useful for coaches, physical trainers and match analysts when evaluating team performance and designing plans according to competition demands and players’ stages of development.

In a good state of mind, athletes are more likely to find their own rhythm and the possibility of victory. In the actual volleyball training process, students are prone to poor mental state. At this time, psychological training is required to be implemented, and the position of psychological training in volleyball training is faced up, and then the teaching plan is formulated in a targeted manner. This paper analyzes the current situation of psychological training in college volleyball teaching, and puts forward the importance of psychological factor training in volleyball teaching and the application of psychological factor training in volleyball teaching.

Abstract:Enthusiasm for sports competitions is consistently high. In sports competitions, athletes not only need to have superb skills but also need a strong psychological quality. Usually, athletes with high psychological quality can make their technical level outstanding; on the contrary, for athletes with low psychological quality, even if the level of competition is very high, it is difficult to achieve excellent results. This study analyzes the data of basketball players to study the influence of the stability of different players' psychological quality on the performance of basketball games. The "mental state" of basketball players is negatively correlated with their performance in basketball games, and the players' psychology often shows signs of tension during basketball games. This tension is the result of a variety of psychological effects, and the number of times of tension is different under different psychological quality stabilities. The experimental analysis results of this study show that through the data analysis of the psychological factors affecting basketball players, the key factors affecting their psychology have been explored, and strategies and methods that can effectively cultivate the psychological quality of basketball players have been found, in order to provide a reference for improving the psychological quality of basketball players.
A developmental outlook on the role of cognition and emotions in youth volleyball and artistic gymnastics

Abstract:Developmental and cognitive psychology recently started to take an interest in the sports domain, exploring the role of either cognitive functions or emotions in youth sport. However, to the extent that cognition and emotions are inextricably linked, studying them jointly from a developmental perspective could inform on their interplay in determining performance in different sports. This research examined the role of general cognitive abilities, attentional style, and emotions (controlling for age and experience), in predicting performance in youth volleyball and artistic gymnastics. A total of 218 female participants, of which 114 volleyball players and 104 artistic gymnasts (11-17 years old) were administered two measures of working memory and six measures of executive functions (namely inhibition, updating, and shifting). They also completed an attentional style and an emotion-related questionnaire. For each volleyball player, an individual performance index based on every gesture performed during the games and controlled for the team performance was computed. As a measure of gymnasts' performance, scores in 2017-2018 competitions were used. Regression analysis showed that the main predictor of the volleyball players' performance (R2 = 0.23) was a working memory-updating factor (ß = 0.45, p = 0.001), together with experience (ß = 0.29, p = 0.030) and high-arousal unpleasant emotions (ß = 0.30, p = 0.029), which positively predicted performance. Experience (ß = 0.30, p = 0.011), age (ß = -0.036, p = 0.005) and high-arousal unpleasant emotions (ß = -0.27, p = 0.030) were the predictors of gymnasts' performance (R2 = 0.25). These results represent a first step in understanding if and how youth female athletes of open- and closed-skills sports rely on different psychological abilities. This line of research could offer insight to practitioners regarding which psychological abilities could be more relevant to train depending on the type of sport.

Abstract:The objective of this investigation was to examine the physical and performance characteristics of adolescent club volleyball players. Twenty-nine adolescent girls, aged 12 to 17 years (14.31 +/- 1.37) were participants in this investigation. All athletes were members of a competitive volleyball club. The following group values were obtained: height (HT) = 1.69 +/- 0.08 m, weight (WT) = 59.6 +/- 8.2 kg, body fat percentage (BF%) = 20.9 +/- 4.5, lean body mass (LBM) = 46.7 +/- 4.9 kg, modified sit-and-reach (MSR) = 38.7 +/- 7.1 cm, shoulder rotation (SR) = 29.4 +/- 5.6 cm, isometric hand grip (IHG) = 34.5 +/- 5.5 kg, isometric leg strength (ILS) = 77.4 +/- 18.1 kg, vertical jump (VJ) = 35.5 +/- 6.2 cm, standing broad jump (SBJ) =178.8 +/- 20.3 cm, 1-minute sit-ups (SU) = 47.0 +/- 6.7, T-test (TT) = 11.2 +/- 0.8 seconds., shuttle test (SHT) = 9.7 +/- 0.4 seconds, stork stand (SS) = 8.1 +/- 4.1 seconds, serving velocity (SVV) =16.1 +/- 4.5 m.s(-1), and spiking velocity (SKV) = 16.9 +/- 2.4 m.s(-1). For purposes of analysis, players were divided into 2 age groups: 12 to 14 years (group A) and 15 to 17 years (group B). Significant differences (p < 0.05) were found between age groups for the following values: HT, WT, LBM, IHG, ILS, SBJ, and SVV. Values for group B were greater for each variable. Significant correlations include age and IHG (r = 0.75), age and ILS (r = 0.51), age and SBJ (r = 0.67), age and SVV (r = 0.71), LBM and IHG (r = 0.90), LBM and ILS (r = 0.62), LBM and SVV (r = 0.58), SVV and IHG (r = 0.60), and SKV and SS (r = 0.60). Our results suggest that age, experience, LBM, shoulder, hip, and thigh girths, strength, and balance are key physical performance characteristics of adolescent girls who play volleyball. Potentially, this type of information will allow coaches and athletes to identify physical and performance data specific to age groups for purposes of evaluation and player development.

Modeling Match Performance in Elite Volleyball Players: Importance of Jump Load and Strength Training Characteristics

Abstract:In this study, we investigated the relationships between training load, perceived wellness and match performance in professional volleyball by applying the machine learning techniques XGBoost, random forest regression and subgroup discovery. Physical load data were obtained by manually logging all physical activities and using wearable sensors. Daily wellness of players was monitored using questionnaires. Match performance was derived from annotated actions by a video scout during matches. We identified conditions of predictor variables that related to attack and pass performance (p < 0.05). Better attack performance is related to heavy weights of lower-body strength training exercises in the preceding four weeks. However, worse attack performance is linked to large variations in weights of full-body strength training exercises, excessively heavy upper-body strength training, low jump heights and small variations in the number of high jumps in the four weeks prior to competition. Lower passing performance was associated with small variations in the number of high jumps in the preceding week and an excessive amount of high jumps performed, on average, in the two weeks prior to competition. Differences in findings with respect to passing and attack performance suggest that elite volleyball players can improve their performance if training schedules are adapted to the position of a player.

Abstract:Previous studies revealed that the factors that deal with the cognition of the athletes are the psychological factors, however, most essential psychological factors that lead to performance, and most of the findings are based on the relationship between one or very limited factors that are affecting athlete performance rather than considering a considerable number of psychological factors. Specifically, little attention has been given to the research aspect of sports in China, even though a large number of research are done in Western countries. The current study explores the relationship between emotion, spirituality, self-talk, self-efficacy, goal-orientation, intrinsic motivation, and sport players’ performance. A total of 308 respondents were used for data analysis through SPSS and structural equation modeling which showed that spirituality, goal-orientation, and self-talk positively influence performance and emotion negatively influences performance. Self-efficacy and intrinsic motivation non-significantly influence performance. Lastly, theoretical, and practical implications as well as limitations were discussed accordingly. Abstract:In sports, players had differences in psychological training principles, sports characteristics, and personal athletic ability due to differences in sports plans. At the same time, the winning and losing rules of various competitions would also limit the psychological training and tactical ability of players. The current problem with mental training for athletes was that it is impossible to accurately understand the mentality of athletes and make a reasonable adjustment plan. Therefore, this paper adopted a machine learning algorithm and used the methods of psychological testing and questionnaire research to carry out extensive research on the training and regulation of remote sports psychology. The possible psychological barriers and adjustment methods of athletes are supplemented, focusing on the comparison of four aspects: psychological endurance before training, control accuracy, anxiety score before psychological training, and the effects of before and after adjustment. And after in-depth research on the problem of athletes’ psychological training, the conclusion showed that the psychological tolerance value of athletes has increased by 18.9%, the accuracy of control of athletes’ psychological problems had increased by 13%, the psychological anxiety of students had also been alleviated and improved, and the overall score had increased by 12.5%. A more systematic mental training program for athletes was introduced in order to provide a basis for improving the effectiveness of mental training for athletes.

Abstract:This study aims to know: (1) the psychological skill characteristics of Indonesian volleyball players reviewed based on gender; (2) the psychological skill characteristics of Indonesian volleyball players reviewed based on position. The type of this study was descriptive quantitative research, using a survey method with a research design: a retrospective causal-comparative. The population in this study was Indonesian volleyball players attending the 18th Asian Games 2018 event in Indonesia numbering 28 Indonesian players, consisting of 14 male and 14 female players, with an average age of 25 years old for males and 20 years old for females. Meanwhile, the data analysis technique used parametric inferential statistics by using the independent t-test for gender difference and one-way Anova for position difference, with a significance level of 0.05. Results show that: (1) there is a significant difference in the psychological skill characteristics of Indonesian volleyball players reviewed based on gender, with the Sig. value 0.007 0.05.

Abstract:Volleyball is one of the most popular sports in the world. To be a professional volleyball player, a coach needs to know how to train their athletes. According to the physiological component, the most used energy of a volleyball player comes from ATP-PC and glycolysis. This study aimed to classify an anaerobic capacity standard of male volleyball athletes in Indonesia. In this study, 60 athletes participated in 2 levels: Junior 15-17-year-old High School student level and 18-25-year-old University student level. The samples were chosen according to their achievement in national-level competitions in the last few years. The measurement used the Running Anaerobic Sprint Test, Vertical Jump Test, and 5-Meter Multiple Shuttle Repeat Sprint Test. The analysis employed an ANOVA test using SPSS 16 and Tukey post hoc test. This study found differences in several anaerobic performance aspects of each position in the same level of competition and at the different levels of competition. In the junior-level athletes, a significant difference was found in the average power between outside hitter and libero, peak power vertical jump between middle blocker and libero, and total distance achieved among outside hitter, opposite hitter, and setter. Senior-level athletes showed a significance different in maximum power, average power, and fatigue index of outside hitters, middle blocker, opposite hitters, setter, and libero, peak power of vertical jump among hitters, setter, and libero, and total distance achieved by hitters, setter, and libero. In conclusion, senior-level athletes showed superiority shown by higher scores of anaerobic capacity than junior-level athletes. It is suggested to conduct more research on the characteristics of each position in volleyball to train athletes more effectively and efficiently according to their position.

Abstract:Athletic mental energy is a newly emerging research topic in sport science. However, whether it can predict objective performance in competition remains unexplored. Thus, the purpose of this study was to examine the predictability of mental energy on volleyball competition performance. We recruited 81 male volleyball players ( M age = 21.11 years ± SD = 1.81) who participated in the last 16 remaining teams in a college volleyball tournament. We assessed participants’ mental energy the night before the competition and collected their competition performance over the next 3 days. We used six indices of the Volleyball Information System (VIS) developed by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) to examine its associations with mental energy. All six factors of mental energy –motivation, tirelessness, calm, vigor, confidence, and concentration correlated with volleyball competition performance. Further, a hierarchical regression found mental energy predicted volleyball receivers’ performance (R 2 = .23). The findings advance our knowledge of mental energy and objective performance in competition. We suggest that future studies may examine the effects of mental energy on different sports with different performance indices.
