Abstract:Abstract We show that when r ≥ 5 is prime, the SO(3) Witten–Reshetikhin–Turaev quantum invariants for three-manifolds at the level r form a dense set in the complex plane. This confirms a conjecture of Larsen and Wang.

Abstract:We show a simple relation between Witten–Reshetikhin–Turaev SU(2) invariant and the Hennings invariant associated with the restricted quantum ${{\mathfrak{sl}_{2}}}$ . These invariants are defined in very different methods: the former uses the representation theory of quantum ${{\mathfrak{sl}_{2}}}$ while the latter uses the integral of the Hopf algebra. But they turn out to be the same for most rational homology 3-spheres up to a sign. This relation can be used to prove the integrality of the former invariant.
Volume conjecture for $SU(n)$-invariants

Abstract: This paper discuss an intrinsic relation among congruent relations \cite{CLPZ}, cyclotomic expansion and Volume Conjecture for $SU(n)$ invariants. Motivated by the congruent relations for $SU(n)$ invariants obtained in our previous work \cite{CLPZ}, we study certain limits of the $SU(n)$ invariants at various roots of unit. First, we prove a new symmetry property for the $SU(n)$ invariants by using a symmetry of colored HOMFLYPT invariants. Then we propose some conjectural formulas including the cyclotomic expansion conjecture and volume conjecture for $SU(n)$ invariants (specialization of colored HOMFLYPT invariants). We also give the proofs of these conjectural formulas for the case of figure-eight knot.

Abstract:Given an arithmetic lattice of the unitary group U(3,1) arising from a hermitian form over a CM-field, we show that all unitary representations of U(3,1) with nonzero cohomology contribute to the cohomology of the attached arithmetic complex 3-manifold, at least when we pass to a finite-index subgroup of the given arithmetic lattice.

Abstract:Let $p>3$ be a prime number. We compute the rings of invariants of the elementary abelian $p$-group $(\mathbb Z/p\mathbb Z)^r$ for $3$-dimensional generic representations. Furthermore we show that these rings of invariants are complete intersections rings with embedding dimension $\lceil r/2\rceil +3$. This proves a conjecture of Campbell, Shank and Wehlau in [CSW], which they proved for $r=3$, and later Pierron and Shank proved it for $r=4$.

Abstract:Using Seifert fibered three-manifold examples of Boileau and Zieschang, we demonstrate that the Reshetikhin-Turaev quantum invariants may be used to provide a sharp lower bound on the Heegaard genus which is strictly larger than the rank of the fundamental group.

To construct the invariants we develop tensor product theorems for finite dimensional modules of U_q(osp(1|2n)) at roots of unity.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to construct new topological invariants of compact oriented 3-manifolds and of framed links in such manifolds. Our invariant of (a link in) a closed oriented 3-manifold is a sequence of complex numbers parametrized by complex roots of 1. For a framed link in S 3 the terms of the sequence are equale to the values of the (suitably parametrized) Jones polynomial of the link in the corresponding roots of 1. Thus, for links in S 3 our invariants are essentially equivalent to the Jones polynomial [Jo]. Note that in general we do not know if our invariant of (a framed link in) a closed oriented 3-manifold may be described as the sequence of values of a certain polynomial in the roots of unity. In the case of manifolds with boundary our invariant is a (sequence of) finite dimensional complex linear operators. This produces from each root of unity q a 3-dimensional topological quantum field theory (see [A1]). In particular, for each q we associate with every closed oriented surface a finite dimensional complex linear space. We construct a projective action of the modular group of the surface in this space. Our constructions have been partially inspired by the ideas of E. Witten [Wi] who considered quantum field theory defined by the nonabelian ChernSimons action and applied it to study the topology of 3-manifolds. Using this quantum field theory, Witten has defined (on the physical level of rigor) certain invariants of 3-manifolds and links in 3-manifolds. The constructions of Witten strongly suggested that there may exist a parallel mathematical theory. We believe that our invariants may be viewed as a mathematical realization of the Witten's program.

Abstract:We study Riemannian 8-manifolds with an infinitesimal action of SO(3) under which each tangent space breaks into irreducible spaces of dimensions 3 and 5. The relationship with quaternionic, almost product- and PSU-geometry is thoroughly explained using representation-theoretical arguments. This leads to the precise study of the intrinsic invariants upon which the structure depends, and also to the description of topological constraints for the existence of such manifolds. Finally, many examples are provided together with general recipes to build them.

SO(3)-Irreducible Geometry in Complex Dimension Five and Ternary Generalization of Pauli Exclusion Principle

Abstract:We propose a notion of a ternary skew-symmetric covariant tensor of 3rd order, consider it as a 3-dimensional matrix and study a ten-dimensional complex space of these tensors. We split this space into a direct sum of two five-dimensional subspaces and in each subspace there is an irreducible representation of the rotation group SO(3) -> SO(5). We find two independent SO(3)-invariants of ternary skew-symmetric tensors, where one of them is the Hermitian metric and the other is the quadratic form. We find the stabilizer of this quadratic form and its invariant properties. Making use of these invariant properties we define a SO(3)-irreducible geometric structure on a five-dimensional complex Hermitian manifold. We study a connection on a five-dimensional complex Hermitian manifold with a SO(3)-irreducible geometric structure, find its curvature and torsion. The structures proposed in this paper and their study are motivated by a ternary generalization of the Pauli's principle proposed by R. Kerner.

Noncommutative Complex Structures for the Full Quantum Flag Manifold of Quantum SU(3)

Abstract:In recent work, Lusztig's positive root vectors (with respect to a distinguished choice of reduced decomposition of the longest element of the Weyl group) were shown to give a quantum tangent space for every $A$-series Drinfeld--Jimbo full quantum flag manifold $\mathcal{O}_q(\mathrm{F}_n)$. Moreover, the associated differential calculus $\Omega^{(0,\bullet)}_q(\mathrm{F}_n)$ was shown to have classical dimension, giving a direct $q$-deformation of the classical anti-holomorphic Dolbeault complex of $\mathrm{F}_n$. Here we examine in detail the rank two case, namely the full quantum flag manifold of $\mathcal{O}_q(\mathrm{SU}_3)$. In particular, we examine the $*$-differential calculus associated to $\Omega^{(0,\bullet)}_q(\mathrm{F}_3)$ and its non-commutative complex geometry. We find that the number of almost-complex structures reduces from $8$ (that is $2$ to the power of the number of positive roots of $\frak{sl}_3$) to $4$ (that is $2$ to the power of the number of simple roots of $\frak{sl}_3$). Moreover, we show that each of these almost-complex structures is integrable, which is to say, each of them is a complex structure. Finally, we observe that, due to non-centrality of all the non-degenerate coinvariant $2$-forms, none of these complex structures admits a left $\mathcal{O}_q(\mathrm{SU}_3)$-covariant noncommutative Kähler structure.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the kernels of the $\mathrm{SO}(3)$-Witten-Reshetikhin-Turaev quantum representations $\rho_p$ of mapping class groups of closed orientable surfaces $\Sigma_g$ of genus $g.$ We investigate the question whether the kernel of $\rho_p$ for $p$ prime is exactly the subgroup generated by $p$-th powers of Dehn twists. We show that if $g\geq 3$ and $p\geq 5$ then $\mathrm{Ker} \, \rho_p$ is contained in the subgroup generated by $p$-th powers of Dehn twists and separating twists, and if $g\geq 6$ and $p$ is a large enough prime then $\mathrm{Ker} \, \rho_p$ is contained in the subgroup generated by the commutator subgroup of the Johnson subgroup and by $p$-th powers of Dehn twists.

Abstract:We construct a mod 2 analogue of the Witten genus for 8k+2 dimensional spin manifolds, as well as modular characteristic numbers for a class of spinc manifolds which we call stringc manifolds. When these spinc manifolds are actually spin, one recovers the original Witten genus on string manifolds. These genera vanish on string and stringc complete intersections respectively in complex projective spaces.

Abstract:The Gukov-Pei-Putrov-Vafa (GPPV) conjecture is a relationship between two three-manifold invariants: the Witten-Reshetikhin-Turaev (WRT) invariant and the $\widehat{Z}$ (``Z-hat'') invariant. In fact, WRT invariant is defined at roots of unity, $\mathbbm{q}\left(\exp\left(\frac{2\pi i}{k+2}\right),~k\in\mathbb{Z}_+,~\text{for}~SU(2)\right)$, and is generally a complex number, whereas $\widehat{Z}$-invariant is a $q$-series with integer coefficients such that $|q|<1$. Therefore, $\widehat{Z}$-invariant can be obtained from WRT-invariant by performing a particular analytic continuation, $\mathbbm{q}\rightarrow q$. In this thesis, we first examine this conjecture for $SO(3)$ and the ortho-symplectic supergroup $OSp(1|2)$. This is done by setting up the WRT invariant for the respective groups and then performing the particular analytic continuation to extract $\widehat{Z}$. As a result of this exercise, we found that $\widehat{Z}^{SU(2)}=\widehat{Z}^{SO(3)}$ and identified a relation between $\widehat{Z}^{SU(2)}$ and $\widehat{Z}^{OSp(1|2)}$. Motivated by the equality of $\widehat{Z}$ for $SU(2)$ and $SO(3)$ groups, we study this conjecture for $SU(N)/\mathbb{Z}_m$ groups, where $\mathbb{Z}_m$ is a subgroup of $\mathbb{Z}_N$, in our second paper. We subsequently found that $\widehat{Z}^{SU(N)/\mathbb{Z}_m}=\widehat{Z}^{SU(N)}$. Another theme of the thesis is to study a conjecture between knot theory and quiver representation theory. More precisely, this conjecture relates the generating function of the symmetric $r$-colored HOMFLY-PT polynomial with the motivic generating series associated with a symmetric quiver. In particular, we obtain a quiver representation for a family of knots called double twist knots $K(p,-m)$. Primarily, we exploit the reverse engineering of Melvin-Morton-Rozansky (MMR) formalism to deduce the pattern of the matrix for these quivers.

Abstract:We construct an invariant for non-spin 4-manifolds by using 2-torsion cohomology classes of moduli spaces of instantons on SO(3)-bundles. The invariant is an SO(3)-version of Fintushel-Stern's 2-torsion instanton invariant. We show that this SO(3)-torsion invariant is non-trivial for $2CP^2 # -CP^2$, while it is known that any known invariant of $2CP^2 # -CP^2$ coming from the Seiberg-Witten theory is trivial since $2CP^2 # -CP^2$ has a positive scalar curvature metric.

Abstract:In the study of 3d-3d correspondence occurs a natural $q$-Weyl algebra associated to an ideal triangulation of a 3-manifold with torus boundary components, and a module of it. We study the action of this module on the (rotated) 3d-index of Dimofte-Gaiotto-Gukov and we conjecture some structural properties: bilinear factorization in terms of holomorphic blocks, pair of linear $q$-difference equations, the determination of the 3d-index in terms of a finite size matrix of rational functions and the asymptotic expansion of the $q$-series as $q$ tends to 1 to all orders. We illustrate our conjectures with computations for the case of the three simplest hyperbolic knots.

The Iwasawa invariants of $\mathbb{Z}_p^{\,d}$-covers of links

Abstract:Let $p$ be a prime number and let $d\in \mathbb{Z}_{>0}$. In this paper, following the analogy between knots and primes, we study the $p$-torsion growth in a compatible system of $(\mathbb{Z}/p^n\mathbb{Z})^d$-covers of 3-manifolds and establish several analogues of Cuoco--Monsky's multivariable versions of Iwasawa's class number formula. Our main goal is to establish the Cuoco--Monsky type formula for branched covers of links in rational homology 3-spheres. In addition, we prove the precise formula over integral homology 3-spheres prompted by Greenberg's conjecture. We also obtain results on reduced Alexander polynomials and on the Betti number periodicity. Furthermore, we investigate the twisted Whitehead links in $S^3$ and point out that the Iwasawa $\mu$-invariant of a $\mathbb{Z}_p^{\,2}$-cover can be an arbitrary non-negative integer. We also calculate the Iwasawa $\mu$ and $\lambda$-invariants of the Alexander polynomials of all links in Rolfsen's table.

Abstract:We prove Witten's formula relating the Donaldson and Seiberg-Witten series modulo powers of degree $c+2$, with $c=-{1/4}(7\chi+11\sigma)$, for four-manifolds obeying some mild conditions, where $\chi$ and $\sigma$ are their Euler characteristic and signature. We use the moduli space of SO(3) monopoles as a cobordism between a link of the Donaldson moduli space of anti-self-dual SO(3) connections and links of the moduli spaces of Seiberg-Witten monopoles. Gluing techniques allow us to compute contributions from Seiberg-Witten moduli spaces lying in the first (or `one-bubble') level of the Uhlenbeck compactification of the moduli space of SO(3) monopoles.

Abstract:We study the quantum modular properties of $\widehat Z{}^G$-invariants of closed three-manifolds. Higher depth quantum modular forms are expected to play a central role for general three-manifolds and gauge groups $G$. In particular, we conjecture that for plumbed three-manifolds whose plumbing graphs have $n$ junction nodes with definite signature and for rank $r$ gauge group $G$, that $\widehat Z{}^G$ is related to a quantum modular form of depth $nr$. We prove this for $G={\rm SU}(3)$ and for an infinite class of three-manifolds (weakly negative Seifert with three exceptional fibers). We also investigate the relation between the quantum modularity of $\widehat Z{}^G$-invariants of the same three-manifold with different gauge group $G$. We conjecture a recursive relation among the iterated Eichler integrals relevant for $\widehat Z{}^G$ with $G={\rm SU}(2)$ and ${\rm SU}(3)$, for negative Seifert manifolds with three exceptional fibers. This is reminiscent of the recursive structure among mock modular forms playing the role of Vafa-Witten invariants for ${\rm SU}(N)$. We prove the conjecture when the three-manifold is moreover an integral homological sphere.

Abstract:Three-manifold invariants $\hat Z$ (''$Z$-hat''), also known as homological blocks, are $q$-series with integer coefficients. Explicit $q$-series form for $\hat Z$ is known for $SU(2)$ group, supergroup $SU(2|1)$ and ortho-symplectic supergroup $OSp(2|2)$. We focus on $\hat Z$ for $SO(3)$ group and orthosymplectic supergroup $OSp(1|2)$ in this paper. Particularly, the change of variable relating $SU(2)$ link invariants to the $SO(3)$ & $OSp(1|2)$ link invariants plays a crucial role in explicitly writing the $q$-series.
