Research on the American Origin of Basketball and Volleyball in the Late 19th Century

Abstract:Based on a large number of historical literature and data, the author of this paper proves that the origin of basketball and volleyball in the late 19th century in America had intrinsic connection not only with the rapid development of education, science and technology, and national economy of the country but also with the promulgation of the patent law and the need of American people for recreation and exercise. The author hopes that the research of this paper will bring some enlightenment to the development of physical education in our country.
