Abstract:—The improvement of the research methodology and ultrafiltration apparatus design is considered on the basis of the technological process system analysis strategy developed by Acedemician V.V. Kafarov (Russian Academy of Sciences). This strategy allows us to identify five main levels of the complex physicochemical system involved in baromembrane processes. The first level takes into account the type of mass transfer through a semipermeable partition; the second level considers the physical characteristics of the membranes; the third level analyzes the concentrations of the dispersed phase and the convective and diffusion flows both on the membrane surface and in the opposite direction to the flow core at the boundaries of the elementary surface of the tubular membrane element; the fourth level takes into account the influence of hydrodynamics on the mechanisms of mass transfer between the fluid and on the surface of a solid body (membrane); and the fifth level comprises a set of phenomena characterizing the hydrodynamic flows in the apparatus as a whole. The proposed approach allows us to identify the basic models of the mathematical description of the processes of separation of liquid media. The method of mathematical modeling of nonstationary physicochemical phenomena accompanying the separation of liquid media is based on the division of the processes into microslices by time and by geometric parameter. In this case, the final output data on the previous microprocessor is the input for the next one. After that, the results are stitched together. The methodology is the development of a scientific approach to the research, design, and synthesis of baromembrane ultrafiltration devices as presented in both domestic and foreign scientific schools. The proposed methodology allows determining the change in operating pressure along the membrane tubular element, taking into account the gel and concentration-polarization phenomena occurring on the membrane surface. In addition, to determine the intensity of particle deposition on the enclosing walls, the theory of turbulent particle migration to the walls of the aerosol channels is adapted, and the model validation results are in good agreement with theoretical calculations for particles from 10 to 30 μm in size.
