Abstract:HIGHLIGHTS • Benthic communities at artificial and natural substrates differ significantly in their taxonomic composition and biological traits. • Higher diversity of mobile fauna is observed at natural substrate compared to artificial substrate. • Artificial hard substrate supports significantly higher abundance and biomass of macrozoobenthos compared to natural hard substrate.
