Abstract:Let p be a prime that divides the order of the group G . We show that a finite solvable group has class number at least f ( p ) where . We also obtain some applications to character degrees.

Abstract:In 2003, Héthelyi and Külshammer proposed that if $G$ is a finite group and $p$ is a prime dividing the group order, then $k(G)\geq 2\sqrt{p-1}$, and they proved this conjecture for solvable $G$ and showed that it is sharp for those primes $p$ for which $\sqrt{p-1}$ is an integer. This initiated a flurry of activity, leading to many generalizations and variations of the result; in particular, today the conjecture is known to be true for all finite groups. In this note, we put forward a natural new and stronger conjecture, which is sharp for all primes $p$, and we prove it for solvable groups, and when $p$ is large, also for arbitrary groups.

Abstract:We prove that there exists a universal constant $D$ such that if $p$ is a prime divisor of the index of the Fitting subgroup of a finite group $G$, then the number of conjugacy classes of G is at least $Dp/log_2 p$. We conjecture that we can take $D=1$ and prove that for solvable groups, we can take $D=1/3$.

Abstract:In this paper, we characterize the finite solvable groups with non-complete character degree graphs by proving the following theorem, which generalizes a conjecture by Huppert. Suppose that G is a finite solvable group and p is a prime number dividing the degree of some irreducible character of G. If there is another such prime number q such that pq does not divide the degree of any irreducible character of G, then both p-length lp(G) and q-length lq(G) of G are at most two, and lp(G)+ lq(G)=4 if and only if pq=6 with QG/Zφ(QG)≅ 32:GL(2,3), where QG is generated by all Sylow 2-subgroups of G and Zφ(G) is a normal nilpotent subgroup of G. Moreover, the bounds are best possible.

Abstract:In this paper,we prove that a finite group with exactly two conjugacy classes of non-nilpotent maximal subgroups is solvable.Furthermore,we give an equivalent characterization of a finite non-solvable group with exactly two classes of non-nilpotent maximal subgroups of the same order.

Set ρp(G) = {q prime: q|ϕ(1), ϕ ∈IBrp(G)}, , σp(G) = max{|π(ϕ(1))|: ϕ ∈IBrp(G)}, and . For a solvable group G, we prove that |ρp(G)| and are bounded by σp(G) and , respectively, if a well-known Diophantine equation has finite integer solutions.

Abstract:Given a finite group G , denote by cs ( G ) the set of the sizes of the conjugacy classes of G and by Cent ( G ) the set of the centralizers of elements of G . Consider a prime p and integers s≥2 and n≥2 , with gcd (p,s)=1 . In this paper, some relations between cs ( G ) and |Cent(G)| are established in the case where cs(G)={1,pn,pn−1s} . Further, when p∈{2,3} , we determine the values of s and the structure of a finite group G such that cs(G)={1,pn,pn−1s} . We also describe the structure of an AC-group G such that [G:Z(G)]=3ns and |Cent(G)|=1+∑i=0n3i , where gcd (3,s)=1 .

Set rho(p') (G) = {q prime : q parallel to C vertical bar, C is an element of cl(G(p'))} and sigma(p)' (G)= max{pi vertical bar C vertical bar)vertical bar : C is an element of cl(G(p'))}. For a solvable group G, we prove that rho(p)' (G)I is bounded by sigma(p)' (G) if p = 2, or p is a Fermat prime, or G has a cyclic Sylow p-subgroup.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a finite group, and $\pi$ be a set of primes. The $\pi$-core $\mathbf{O}_\pi(G)$ is the unique maximal normal $\pi$-subgroup of $G$, and $b(G)$ is the largest irreducible character degree of $G$. In 2017, Qian and Yang proved that if $H$ is a solvable $\pi$-subgroup of $G$, then $|H\mathbf{O}_\pi(G)/\mathbf{O}_\pi(G)|\le b(G)^3$. In this paper, we improve the exponent of $3$ to $3\log_{504}(168)<2.471$.

On a bijection between a finite group to a non-cyclic group with divisibility of element orders

Abstract:Consider a finite group $G$ of order $n$ with a prime divisor $p$. In this article, we establish, among other results, that if the Sylow $p$-subgroup of $G$ is neither cyclic nor generalized quaternion, then there exists a bijection $f$ from $G$ onto the abelian group $C_{\frac{n}{p}}\times C_p$ such that for every element $x$ in $G$, the order of $x$ divides the order of $f(x)$. This resolves Question 1.5 posed in \cite{mohsen}. As application of our results, we show that the group with the third largest value of the sum of element orders in the set of all finite groups of order $n$ is a solvable $p$-nilpotent group where $p$ is the smallest prime divisor of $n$ such that the Sylow $p$-subgroups are not cyclic.
