What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problems that this paper attempts to solve mainly focus on several key challenges in free - space optical interconnection technology: 1. **Limitations of traditional free - space optical interconnection**: Traditional free - space optical interconnection relies on a straight - line path (i.e., line - of - sight path), which requires that the receiver must be directly set within the line - of - sight range of the transmitter. This limits the flexibility and application scenarios of the system. 2. **Trajectory manipulation of self - accelerating beams**: The paper proposes a general trajectory manipulation method for analytically describing two - dimensional Airy beams by generating vectors, aiming to achieve more flexible three - dimensional free - space optical interconnection. Through this method, beams with specific curved trajectories can be designed, allowing receivers to be flexibly set along these curved trajectories. 3. **Improvement of optical interconnection performance**: The paper experimentally verifies the feasibility of 100 - Gbps real - time free - space optical interconnection using self - accelerating beams (especially two - dimensional Airy beams), and compares them with one - dimensional Airy beams and Gaussian beams, demonstrating the advantages of self - accelerating beams in avoiding obstacles and improving transmission performance. 4. **Optimization of beam selection**: In order to evaluate the characteristics of different beams in free - space propagation, the paper introduces a new metric - normalized power density (NPD). By calculating the 3 - dB NPD range, the paper determines that the power density of the main lobe of the Airy beam can be maintained over a longer free - space range and has better performance compared to Gaussian beams with the same minimum width. In summary, the main objective of this paper is to break through the limitations of traditional free - space optical interconnection through trajectory manipulation and performance optimization of self - accelerating beams, and to achieve a more flexible, efficient, and reliable optical interconnection system.
