Racial differences in cardiovascular disease mortality among cancer survivors.

Abstract:12075Background: Cancer survivors have an elevated risk of death from cardiovascular disease (CVD). Whether the risk differs by race/ethnicity and cancer type has not been fully explored in the U.S. Methods: Data from survivors of top 23 cancers diagnosed at ages 20 to 64 years during 2000-2018 were obtained from 17 Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results registries. Risks for CVD death among survivors relative to the general population were calculated using standardized mortality ratios (SMRs) in each racial/ethnic group: Non-Hispanic White (NHW), Non-Hispanic Black (NHB), Hispanic, Non-Hispanic Asian or Pacific Islander (API), and Non-Hispanic American Indian (AI).
