Abstract:The species of the hoverfly genus Paramixogaster Brunetti, 1923 from the Oriental Region are revised. The resulting number of valid species is 15, of which the following four are described as new: P. halmaherensis Reemer, sp. nov. , P. jubata Reemer, sp. nov. , P. kodaiana Sankararaman & Reemer, sp. nov. , and P. sulawesiana Reemer, sp. nov. Three new synonymies are established: Paramicrodon decipiens de Meijere, 1917, syn. nov. is a junior synonym of Microdon vespiformis de Meijere, 1908; Paramixogaster wegneri Keiser, 1964, syn. nov. is a junior synonym of Ceratophya indica Doleschall, 1857; Microdon subpetiolatus Thompson, 2020, syn. nov. is a junior synonym of Microdon contractus Brunetti, 1923. Paramixogaster huoi Reemer, nom. nov. is introduced as a replacement name for P. trifasciatus Huo & Zhao, 2022, which is a primary homonym of P. trifasciatus Ssymank & Reemer, 2016. Neotypes are designated for Paramixogaster icariiformis Pendlebury, 1927 and Myxogaster variegata Sack, 1922, and a lectotype is designated for Microdon vespiformis de Meijere, 1908. An identification key to the species and diagnoses for all species are provided.

Abstract:We revise the Afrotropical Agabus raffrayi species group, motivated by the discovery of new diversity in Kenya and South Africa. Whilst Agabus is mainly a holarctic genus, the Agabus raffrayi group is restricted to high altitude regions of eastern Africa and temperate parts of South Africa, from where we describe the southernmost Agabus in the world. The following new species are introduced: Agabus anguluverpus sp. nov. from Mount Kenya in central Kenya, Agabus austellus sp. nov. a widespread species in South Africa, Agabus riberae sp. nov. from the Kamiesberg and northeastern Cederberg ranges in the Northern and Western Cape Provinces of South Africa and Agabus agulhas sp. nov. from the Agulhas Plain, Western Cape Province, South Africa. We provide a distribution map, a determination key for males, quantitative measurements of diagnostic characters, habitus photos and detailed photos of male genitalia for all described species in the group, as well as images of diagnostic characters and habitats. The presence or absence of an elongated section between the subapical broadening and the base of the apical and subapical teeth of the male aedeagus is a useful novel character, first revealed by our study. In contrast with the most recent revision of Afrotropical Agabus , we show that Agabus ruwenzoricus Guignot, 1936 is restricted to eastern Africa; South African records of this species having been based on misidentifications, no species of the group being common to southern and eastern Africa. We speculate that the raffrayi group may display phylogenetic niche conservatism, being restricted, as an originally temperate taxon, to higher elevations in tropical eastern Africa, but occurring at lower altitudes in temperate South Africa.

Abstract:The Afrotropical genus Asapharcha Meyrick, 1920 is recognized as a senior synonym of Lacistodes Meyrick, 1921, syn. nov. and Melitoxestis Meyrick, 1921, syn. nov. Nine species of Asapharcha are recognized as valid, four of which are described as new: A. angustella sp. nov. (South Africa), A. lacistoides sp. nov. (Namibia, Ethiopia, Sudan), A. ochrocapitella sp. nov. (Zimbabwe), and A. unipunctella sp. nov. (Namibia). Two new synonyms are proposed: Asapharcha crateropa Meyrick, 1930 syn. nov. of Lacistodes tauropis Meyrick, 1921, and Lacistodes brunneostola Janse, 1960, syn. nov. of Asapharcha strigifera Meyrick, 1920. Three new generic combinations are proposed: Asapharcha centrotypa (Meyrick, 1920) (Melitoxestis), comb. nov., Asapharcha fuscomaculata (Bidzilya & Mey, 2011) (Lacistodes), comb. nov., Asapharcha hirsuta (Janse, 1958) (Lasiarchis), comb. nov. The female genitalia of A. strigifera are described for the first time. Asapharcha tauropis is recorded for the first time from Kenya and Ethiopia. All species of Asapharcha are diagnosed, and an identification key to all species of the genus is provided. Wing pattern and genitalia of all species are illustrated, and an updated checklist of the genus is given.

Abstract:The described Nearctic species of the genus Tachydromia Meigen, 1803 (Diptera: Hybotidae, Tachydromiinae) are revised. Seventeen described species are recognised. The following two new synonyms are proposed: Tachista lundstroemi Frey, 1913 (Eurasian species) = Tachydromia enecator Melander, 1902; Tachydromia hirtipes Melander, 1928 = Tachydromia schwarzii Coquillett, 1895. Five Eurasian species are recorded for the first time from North America (T. aemula (Loew), T. fuscinervis (Frey), T. incompleta (Becker), T. magadanica Shamshev, T. punctifera (Becker)) and two North American species for the first time from Eurasia (T. chelana Melander, T. monacha Melander). Nearly half of Tachydromia species recorded currently from North America have Holarctic distributions (53 %). However, many new species remain undescribed. Redescriptions, photos of the habitus and illustrations of male terminalia (when available), as well as known distributions and a key to species are included.

A key and a morphological summary table to all these Leucophenga species are provided. Phylogenetic relationships among these 21 Leucophenga species, another 14 congeneric, known species from seven groups, and two representative outgroup taxa are reconstructed using 169 DNA sequences of the partial mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (mtCOI) gene. In sum, 13 of the 21 Leucophenga species, which possess the only diagnostic character of the proxima species group (abdominal third tergite shortened, anteriorly discolored in males), are not monophyletic. Therefore, all the Leucophenga species described or redescribed in this study are temporarily classified as unplaced species (except for L. sorii, which has been assigned to the sorii species group) to avoid further confusion.

Abstract:The Palaearctic species of Aphodius Hellwig, 1798, subgenus Liothorax Motschulsky, 1860 are revised using a combination of chromosome analysis, molecular phylogenetics and morphological statistical analysis. Sixteen species are recognised, one of which is shown to comprise two subspecies. Based mainly on the morphology of the aedeagal endophallus and the phylogenetic analysis, they are placed in two groups: the. niger group, apparently monophyletic, comprising Aphodius (Liothorax) niger Illiger, 1798, A. Abstract:The revision of the flea beetle genus Argopistes Motschulsky, 1860 in Madagascar is provided. Six new species are described: Argopistes janakmoravecorum sp. nov. , A. laterosinuatus sp. nov. , and A. vadoni from the northern area; A. jenisi sp. nov. , A. keiseri sp. nov. , and A. seyrigi sp. nov. from the central area. A new synonym of Argopistes brunneus Weise, 1895 is established: A. sexguttatus Weise, 1895, syn. nov. , since A. sexguttatus is shown to be a chromatic form of A. brunneus . A diagnostic key of the seven Malagasy Argopistes species is provided, with photographs of the habitus, median lobe of the aedeagus, and spermatheca. Finally, based on known occurrences, the current suitable areas for this flea beetle genus in Madagascar are estimated using Ecological Niche Modelling ( ENM ) techniques.

Abstract:A taxonomic revision of the Afrotropical genus Zetheumenidion Bequaert, 1926 is presented. Abstract:The southern African genus Antoniejanse Kemal & Koçak, 2005 is revised. Seven species are recognized here as valid, of which four species are described as new for science from South Africa (A. varii sp. nov. and A. tenebrosa sp. nov.) and Namibia (A. minima sp. nov. and A. mediopunctata sp. nov.). One new combination is proposed: Antoniejanse sagittata (Bidzilya, 2019) comb. nov. (ex Paratelphusa). All species of Antoniejanse are re-diagnosed. Wing patterns, as well as male and female genitalia are depicted. An identification key to all species of the genus is provided and the checklist of the genus is updated.
