Abstract:The VENUS-2 MOX core experiment benchmark is investigated with the OpenMC Monte Carlo code, including the core physics experiment and the dosimetry response experiment. In the VENUS-2 core physics experiment, the multiplication factor k-inf for different fuel pins are compared with TRIPOLI-4, Serpent2, MCNP6.1 and benchmark averaged values, differences in the computational program and neutron data libraries can result in several hundred pcm differences in k-inf. For the normalized absorption rates, there are no significant differences for U235 and U238 in the different energy groups. However, the normalized fission rates for U238 differ significantly when comparing ENDF/B-VII.1 and ENDF/B-VIII.0, which may be caused by the apparent difference of the MT = 18 total fission cross sections for U238 in ENDF/B-VII.1 and ENDF/B-VIII.0 in the thermal and intermediate energy range. The effective core multiplication factor, the axial and radial fission rate distributions of the fuel pins are basically in agreement Serpent values and experimental measurements. Furthermore, the VENUS-2 MOX core dosimetry experiment is also computed and analyzed. The calculated values of the equivalent fission fluxes are in good agreement with the experimental values for most of the measurement positions, and some local results are even better than other codes such as the Al27(n, a) detector. Therefore, the OpenMC Monte Carlo code can provide good prediction accuracy for the measured values of the VENUS-2 MOX core experiment.
