Abstract:In this article, we study the scalar one-dimensional nonlocal quasilinear problem of the form $$ u_t=a(\Vert u_x\Vert^2)u_{xx}+\nu f(u) , $$ with Dirichlet boundary conditions on the interval $[0,\pi]$, where $a: \mathbb{R}^+\to [m,M]\subset (0,+\infty)$ and $f: \mathbb{R}\to \mathbb{R}$ are continuous functions that satisfy suitable additional conditions. We give a complete characterization of the bifurcations and hyperbolicity for the corresponding equilibria. With respect to bifurcation, the existing result requires that the function $a(\cdot)$ be non-decreasing and shows that bifurcations are pitchfork supercritical bifurcations from zero. We extend these results to the case of a general smooth nonlocal diffusion function $a(\cdot)$ and show that bifurcations may be pitchfork or saddle-node, both subcritical or supercritical. Concerning hyperbolicity, we specifying necessary and sufficient conditions for its occurrence. We also explore some examples to exhibit the variety of possibilities, depending on the choice of the function $a(\cdot)$, that may occur as the parameter $\nu$ varies.

Abstract:We study existence and multiplicity of nontrivial solutions of the following problem $$ \left\{ \begin{array}{rcll} -\Delta_p u+(-\Delta_p)^{s} u & = & \lambda|u|^{q-2}u+|u|^{p^{\ast}-2}u & \mbox{ in }\Omega,\\ u & = & 0 & \mbox{ on } \mathbb{R}^{N} \setminus \Omega, \end{array} \right. $$ where $\Omega\subset \mathbb{R}^N$ is a bounded open set with smooth boundary, dimension $N\geq 2$, parameter $\lambda>0$, exponents $0<s<1<p<N$, while $q\in(1,p^{\ast})$ with $p^{\ast}=\frac{Np}{N-p}$. The problem is driven by an operator of mixed order obtained by the sum of the classical $p$-Laplacian and of the fractional $p$-Laplacian. We analyze three different scenarios depending on exponent $q$. For this, we combine variational methods with some topological techniques, such as the Krasnoselskii genus and the Lusternik-Schnirelman category theories.

Abstract:Global existence of very weak solutions to a non-local diffusion-advection-reaction equation is established under no-flux boundary conditions in higher dimensions. The equation features degenerate myopic diffusion and nonlocal adhesion and is an extension of a mass-conserving model recently derived in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2308.05676" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2308.05676">arXiv:2308.05676</a>. The admissible degeneracy of the diffusion tensor is characterised in terms of the upper box fractal dimension.

Abstract:For the Cauchy problem with a kind of non-smooth initial data for weakly linearly degenerate hyperbolic systems of conservation laws with the linear damping term, we prove the existence and uniqueness of global weakly discontinuous solution u = u(t, x) containing only n weak discontinuities with small amplitude on t ≥ 0, and this solution possesses a global structure similar to that of the similarity solution $u = U(\frac{x}{t})$ of the corresponding homogeneous Riemann problem. As an application of our result, we obtain the existence and uniqueness of global weakly discontinuous solution, continuous and piecewise C 1 solution with discontinuous first order derivatives, of the flow equations of a model class of fluids with viscosity induced by fading memory.

Abstract:In this paper, we study a diffusion model of Kirchhoff-type driven by a nonlocal integro-differential operator. As a particular case, we consider the following diffusion problem where [u]s is the Gagliardo seminorm of u, is a bounded domain with Lipschitz boundary, is the fractional Laplacian with , is the initial function, and is continuous. Under some appropriate conditions, the local existence of nonnegative solutions is obtained by employing the Galerkin method. Then, by virtue of a differential inequality technique, we prove that the local nonnegative solutions blow-up in finite time with arbitrary negative initial energy and suitable initial values. Moreover, we give an estimate for the lower and upper bounds of the blow-up time. The main novelty is that our results cover the degenerate case, that is, the coefficient of could be zero at the origin.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce a new class of quasilinear operators, which represents a nonlocal version of the operator studied by Stuart and Zhou [1], inspired by models in nonlinear optics. We will study the existence of at least one or two solutions in the cone $X=\{u\in H^s_0(\Omega): u\geq 0\}$ using variational methods. For this purpose, we analyze two scenarios: the asymptotic sublinear and linear growth cases for the reaction term. Additionally, in the sublinear case, we establish a nonexistence result.

Abstract:We study a nonlocal Cahn-Hilliard model for a multicomponent mixture with cross-diffusion effects and degenerate mobility. The nonlocality is described by means of a symmetric singular kernel. We define a notion of weak solution adapted to possible degeneracies and prove, as our first main result, its global-in-time existence. The proof relies on an application of the formal gradient flow structure of the system (to overcome the lack of a-priori estimates), combined with an extension of the boundedness-by-entropy method, in turn involving a careful analysis of an auxiliary variational problem. This allows to obtain solutions to an approximate, time-discrete system. Letting the time step size go to zero, we recover the desired nonlocal weak solution where, due to their low regularity, the Cahn-Hilliard terms require a special treatment. Finally, we prove convergence of solutions for this class of nonlocal Cahn-Hilliard equations to their local counterparts.

We first prove the narrow region principle and maximal principle for antisymmetric functions, under the condition that u u is uniformly bounded, which weaken the general decay condition u → 0 u\to 0 at infinity. Then, the monotonicity of positive solutions is established using the method of moving planes.

Abstract:We study the uniqueness, existence, and properties of bounded distributional solutions of the initial value problem problem for the anomalous diffusion equation $\partial_tu-\mathcal{L}^\mu [\varphi (u)]=0$. Here $\mathcal{L}^\mu$ can be any nonlocal symmetric degenerate elliptic operator including the fractional Laplacian and numerical discretizations of this operator. The function $\varphi:\mathbb{R} \to \mathbb{R}$ is only assumed to be continuous and nondecreasing. The class of equations include nonlocal (generalized) porous medium equations, fast diffusion equations, and Stefan problems. In addition to very general uniqueness and existence results, we obtain $L^1$-contraction and a priori estimates. We also study local limits, continuous dependence, and properties and convergence of a numerical approximation of our equations.

By applying our Schauder-type estimate to suitably chosen differential operators $\mathcal{L}_s$, we obtain critical well-posedness results of various local and non-local nonlinear evolution equations in geometry and fluids, including hypoviscous Navier--Stokes equations, the surface quasi-geostrophic equation, mean curvature equations, Willmore flow, surface diffusion flow, Peskin equations, thin-film equations and Muskat equations.

Abstract:We investigate the nonlinear diffusion equation ∂u/∂t=Δu+up,p>1, on certain unbounded fractal domains, where Δ is the infinitesimal generator of the semigroup associated with a corresponding heat kernel. We show that there are non-negative global solutions for non-negative initial data if p>1+2/ds, while solutions blow up if p≤1+2/ds, where ds is the spectral dimension of the domain. Abstract:This work aims to study the initial-boundary value problem of the reaction-diffusion equation $\pa_{t}u-\Delta u=f(u)+g(u(t-\tau(t,u_t)))+h(t,x)$ in a bounded domain with state-dependent delay and supercritical nonlinearities. We establish the global existence and discuss the regularity and dissipativity of the problem under weaker assumptions. In particular, the existence of a global pullback attractor is proved regardless of uniqueness.

Abstract:The Laplacian $\Delta$ is the infinitesimal generator of isotropic Brownian motion, being the limit process of normal diffusion, while the fractional Laplacian $\Delta^{\beta/2}$ serves as the infinitesimal generator of the limit process of isotropic Lévy process. Taking limit, in some sense, means that the operators can approximate the physical process well after sufficient long time. We introduce the nonlocal operators (being effective from the starting time), which describe the general processes undergoing normal diffusion. For anomalous diffusion, we extend to the anisotropic fractional Laplacian $\Delta_m^{\beta/2}$ and the tempered one $\Delta_m^{\beta/2,\lambda}$ in $\mathbb{R}^n$. Their definitions are proved to be equivalent to an alternative one in Fourier space. Based on these new nonlocal diffusion operators, we further derive the deterministic governing equations of some interesting statistical observables of the very general jump processes with multiple internal states. Finally, we consider the associated initial and boundary value problems and prove their well-posedness of the Galerkin weak formulation in $\mathbb{R}^n$. To obtain the coercivity, we claim that the probability density function $m(Y)$ should be nondegenerate.
