Abstract:PURPOSE:To determine corneal topography parameters of myopia in Chinese and help for studies of causes of myopia, distingiush other corneal diseases (such as early keratoconus), further explore the accurateness and safeness of the clinical effects of radil keratotomy (RK) or photorefractive keratectomy (PRK).METHODS:Fifty-eight eyes with mild or moderate myopia were examined by computer-assisted photokeratography. (TMS-1 Computed Anatomy Inc. New York. NY) RESULTS: The corneal topography of most (68%) of the examined eyes showed symmetric bowtie pattern: the corneal surface of most (75%) of the examined eyes showed positive aspheric shape (steeper centrally, flatter peripherally); the refractive power of central cornea is at mean 44.165 +/- 1.429 D; the refractive difference between 1 to 25 ring in keratoscpe was at mean 1.655 +/- 0.785D; the mean SRI was 0.558 +/- 0.768, the mean SAI was 0.296 +/- 0.149; the mean Smik was 44.209 +/- 1.515D. The apex and visual axis were dislocation in all the cornea examined.CONCLUSIONS:The corneal surface refractive characterization of myopia might be relative to the clinical effects of RK or PRK.

Abstract:To evaluate the morphology of lamina cribrosa (LC) in preterm school-aged children. A study of 120 eyes from 120 patients, including 42 full-term children (control group), 41 preterm children without retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), 16 children with ROP treated with intravitreal bevacizumab (IVB), and 21 children with ROP treated with laser. Five parameters of LC were measured by optical coherence tomography, including Bruch's membrane opening (BMO) diameter, minimum rim width (MRW), LC depth, prelaminar tissue (PLT) thickness, and LC curvature index (LCCI).

Abstract:Purpose. To compare biometric and optical coherence tomography parameters as well as refractive status in preterm children aged 4–8 years with or without retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), and evaluate their correlations with age and gender‐matched full‐term children. Methods. Retrospective comparative cohort study of four groups of children. Children with a history of preterm birth, including ROP who received intravitreal bevacizumab (IVB) treatment, children with a history of ROP that regressed without treatment and those with no history of ROP were compared to age and gender‐matched full‐term children as a control group. Best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), spherical equivalent of refraction (SE), macular and choroidal thickness, as well as biometric parameters was measured. Results. A total of 120 eyes of 120 children (30 children in each group) were included. There was no significant difference in BCVA, SE, and subjective cylinder between groups (p = 0.05, p = 0.3, p = 0.6, respectively). Axial length was significantly shorter, and the cornea was steeper in both ROP groups than in other groups (p = 0.001, p < 0.001, respectively). The central macular thickness was significantly thicker in the treated, regressed ROP and preterm groups than in full‐term children (p < 0.001). The gestational age was negatively correlated with macular thickness in both treated and regressed ROP groups (r = −0.517; p = 0.003, r = − 0.490; p = 0.006, respectively). Conclusions. Children with a history of ROP had a shorter axial length, steeper cornea, and thicker macula that correlated with lower gestational age.

Abstract:Purpose To evaluate the value of optical coherence tomography as a diagnostic tool in retinopathy of prematurity Material and Methods a short summary of the pesntknowlage about the optical coherence tomography usefulness in diagnostics of retinopathy of prematurity. Conclusions Comprehensive ophthalmological examination and treatment followed by the use of the diagnostic tools such as optical coherence tomography in children with reinopathy of prematurity will allow to decide of proper timing and method of treatment. Subsequently this will contribute in achieving the best possible visual acuity and thus a higher quality of life in these children.

Long-term surgical outcomes and prognostic factors for advanced-stage retinopathy of prematurity after vitrectomy

Abstract:Background/aims: The aims of this study is to evaluate the anatomic, visual outcomes and associated prognostic factors in patients with advanced retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) following vitrectomy. Methods: A retrospective cohort study of patients with ROP who underwent vitrectomy from 2005 to 2016 was conducted. All the patients had a follow-up period of at least 5 years. Univariate and multivariable logistic regression analyses were used to explore the factors related to unfavourable outcomes. Results: In total, 81 eyes of 51 patients were included. The mean age at last follow-up was 10.2 years. The anatomic success rate was 96.3% (26/27) for stage 4A, 90.9% (20/22) for stage 4B and 31.3% (10/32) for stage 5 ROP (p<0.01). The mean logMAR best corrected visual acuity of the stage-4A eyes was the highest, followed by those of stage-4B and stage-5 eyes (0.8, 1.5 and 2.6 for stages 4A, 4B and 5, respectively; p<0.01). High myopia (≤ -5.0 D) was noted in 70.8% and 71.4% of stage-4A and stage-4B eyes, respectively. Cataract was the most common complication (25.9%), followed by corneal opacity (17.3%), strabismus (16.1%), and phthisis (16.1%). Stage of the disease was a poor prognostic factor in all vitrectomised eyes (p<0.01). Vitrectomy combined lensectomy was a significant predictor for poor anatomic outcomes for stage-4 eyes (p=0.03). Presence of plus disease was also a possible factor affecting the surgical outcomes. Conclusion: The long-term surgical outcomes of the eyes with stage 4A and 4B ROP were favourable. Management of stage 5 ROP remained challenging.

Abstract:Purpose: To investigate peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (pRNFL) thickness changes in preterm children with or without retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) history compared to full-term children. Methods: A retrospective comparative cohort study assessing pRNFL thickness was completed in children aged 4-8 years. Four groups of children were included (n = 30 each group): children with a history of ROP who were treated with intravitreal bevacizumab, children with ROP who received no treatment, and preterm children without ROP compared to age- and gender-matched full-term children. Results: A total of 120 eyes from 120 children were enrolled in this study. Both treated and regressed ROP children showed a significantly thinner pRNFL in the nasal quadrant compared to full-term children (P = 0.017 and P = 0.008, respectively). The pRNFL in the superior quadrant of treated ROP children was thinner than the preterm and control groups (P = 0.015 and P = 0.023, respectively), whereas the inferior quadrant of treated ROP children was thinner than the preterm group alone (P = 0.008). The pRNFL thickness in the temporal quadrant was comparable between groups (P = 0.129). The average spatial distribution profile of pRNFL thickness in treated ROP children was significantly thinner than in the preterm group (P = 0.041). Conclusion: pRNFL thickness is significantly altered in children with a prior history of treated ROP with thinning of the nasal and superior quadrants compared to full-term children.
Retinal vessel architecture in retinopathy of prematurity and healthy controls using swept-source optical coherence tomography angiography

Abstract:Purpose: To determine microvascular changes in children with a history of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) and in a control group of full-term children. Methods: In a cross-sectional study, 30 eyes of 15 children aged 6-8 years with a history of ROP were evaluated with swept-source optical coherence tomography angiography (SS-OCTA). Twenty-eight eyes of 22 age-matched full-term children served as a healthy control group. The foveal avascular zone (FAZ), vessel density (VD) and choroidal vascular flow area (VFA) were evaluated on OCTA and correlated with central retinal thickness (CRT), visual acuity (VA), birth weight (BW), gestational age (GA) and ROP stages. Results: Twenty-two eyes of 14 children with a history of ROP (stage 1-3) and 25 eyes of 19 full-term children were available for evaluation. In the ROP group, the gestational age was 27 ± 2 weeks and birth weight was 781 ± 164 g. In the ROP group, CRT was higher in the central ETDRS segment (mean difference [95% CI]: 32.8 µm [18.7; 47.0], p = 0.0002) compared to the controls. Smaller mean FAZ area (-0.12 [-0.19; -0.04], p = 0.004) and perimeter (-662 [-1228; -96], p = 0.03) was found in comparison to the control group. An oval shape of the FAZ was observed among patients with a history of ROP. The mean central VD of the superficial plexus was 28 ± 8/23 ± 8% and of the deep plexus 7 ± 7/3 ± 5% (ROP group/control group; p > 0.05). No statistically significant difference was found regarding the choroidal VFA. Only weak correlation of FAZ and VD with function was observed. Conclusions: Swept-source optical coherence tomography angiography imaging revealed significant microvascular anomalies in children with a history of ROP indicating disturbance of early morphological development of the central retina.

Abstract:Purpose of review In this review, we explore the investigational applications of optical coherence tomography (OCT) in retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), the insights they have delivered thus far, and key milestones for its integration into the standard of care. Recent findings While OCT has been widely integrated into clinical management of common retinal diseases, its use in pediatric contexts has been undermined by limitations in ergonomics, image acquisition time, and field of view. Recently, investigational handheld OCT devices have been reported with advancements including ultra-widefield view, noncontact use, and high-speed image capture permitting real-time en face visualization. These developments are compelling for OCT as a more objective alternative with reduced neonatal stress compared to indirect ophthalmoscopy and/or fundus photography as a means of classifying and monitoring ROP. Summary OCT may become a viable modality in management of ROP. Ongoing innovation surrounding handheld devices should aim to optimize patient comfort and image resolution in the retinal periphery. Future clinical investigations may seek to objectively characterize features of peripheral stage and explore novel biomarkers of disease activity.

Abstract:Extraretinal neovascularization is a hallmark of treatment-requiring retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) offers vascular flow and depth information not available from indirect ophthalmoscopy and structural OCT, but OCTA is only commercially available as a tabletop device. In this study, we used an investigational handheld OCTA device to study the vascular flow in and around retinal neovascularization in seven preterm infants with treatment-requiring ROP and contrasted them to images of vascular flow in six infants of similar age without neovascular ROP. We showed stages of retinal neovascularization visible in preterm infants from 32 to 47 weeks postmenstrual age: Intraretinal neovascularization did not break through the internal limiting membrane; Subclinical neovascular buds arose from retinal vasculature with active flow through the internal limiting membrane; Flat neovascularization in aggressive ROP assumed a low-lying configuration compared to elevated extraretinal neovascular plaques; Regressed neovascularization following treatment exhibited decreased vascular flow within the preretinal tissue, but flow persisted in segments of retinal vessels elevated from their original intraretinal location. These findings enable a pilot classification of retinal neovascularization in eyes with ROP using OCTA, and may be helpful in detailed monitoring of disease progression, treatment response and predicting reactivation.

Abstract:Indirect ophthalmoscopy and handheld retinal imaging are the most common and traditional modalities for the evaluation and documentation of the pediatric fundus, especially for pre-verbal children. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) allows for in vivo visualization that resembles histology, and optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) allows for non-invasive depth-resolved imaging of the retinal vasculature. Both OCT and OCTA were extensively used and studied in adults, but not in children. The advent of prototype handheld OCT and OCTA have allowed for detailed imaging in younger infants and even neonates in the neonatal care intensive unit with retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). In this review, we discuss the use of OCTA and OCTA in various pediatric retinal diseases, including ROP, familial exudative vitreoretinopathy (FEVR), Coats disease and other less common diseases. For example, handheld portable OCT was shown to detect subclinical macular edema and incomplete foveal development in ROP, as well as subretinal exudation and fibrosis in Coats disease. Some challenges in the pediatric age group include the lack of a normative database and the difficulty in image registration for longitudinal comparison. We believe that technological improvements in the use of OCT and OCTA will improve our understanding and care of pediatric retina patients in the future.

The Analysis of Foveal Microvascular Anomalies in Retinopathy of Prematurity after Anti-Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Therapy Using Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography

Abstract:To investigate the quantitative vascular and structural differences in the foveal region of the eyes in retinopathy of prematurity children with or without anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) therapy and healthy children using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). This cross-sectional study analyzed 75 eyes from 44 subjects, categorized into four groups: ROP children treated with Conbercept or Ranibizumab, spontaneously regressed ROP, and healthy age-matched children. Using spectral-domain OCT and OCTA, we assessed parameters like central foveal thickness (CFT), foveal avascular zone (FAZ), superficial/deep capillary plexus (SCP/DCP), and choroidal vessel density (VD) at the fovea. Correlations between foveal microvasculature, preterm status and visual acuity were evaluated. Significant differences were found in FAZ area, CFT, and VD-SCP (parafoveal) among the groups. The FAZ area was smaller in ROP children (with/without treatment) than in healthy counterparts(p = 0.009). CFT was higher in the Ranibizumab and spontaneously regressed groups compared to healthy ones (p = 0.043, p = 0.037), while Conbercept-treated children showed no significant difference (p = 0.886). Foveal VD trends were higher in groups A, B, and C compared to group D. FAZ area correlated negatively with CFT, VD-SCP (foveal), and VD-DCP (foveal) (p < 0.001, p < 0.001, p = 0.001), and positively with choroidal VD (p = 0.012). CFT showed positive correlations with VD-SCP (foveal) and VD-DCP (foveal) (p = 0.003, p = 0.001). ROP children exhibit a smaller FAZ area compared to healthy group, with no significant difference noted when comparing the use of different anti-VEGF agents. ROP children have a thicker CFT than healthy children, except for those treated with Conbercept. Furthermore, microvascular irregularities were correlated with central foveal thickness.

Abstract:Recent advances in portable optical coherence tomography (OCT) and OCT angiography (OCTA) have resulted in wider fields of view (FOV) and shorter capture times, further expanding the potential clinical role of OCT technology in the diagnosis and management of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). Using a prototype, handheld OCT device, retinal imaging was obtained in non-sedated infants in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) as well as sedated infants in the operating room of Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) Hospital. In this observational study, we provide an overview of potential advantages of OCT-based disease assessment in ROP. We observed that next-generation OCT imaging (a) may be sufficient for objective diagnosis and zone/stage/plus disease categorization, (b) allows for minimally-invasive longitudinal monitoring of disease progression and post-treatment course, (c) provides three-dimensional mapping of the vitreoretinal interface, and (d) with OCTA, enables dye-free visualization of normal and pathologic vascular development.

Relations between Neurocognitive Function and Visual Acuity: A Cross-Sessional Study in a Cohort of Premature Children

Abstract:Background: Premature children with retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) have been reported to an have increased risk of visual and neurocognitive impairments, yet little is known about whether vision could affect specific neurocognition. This study aimed to clarify the correlations between neurocognition and vision in premature children. Materials and methods: This is a nonrandomized, cross-sectional, observational study in a pediatric cohort with five groups: (1) full-term (n = 25), (2) prematurity without ROP (n = 154), (3) prematurity with ROP but without treatment (n = 39), (4) prematurity with ROP and with bevacizumab (IVB) treatment (n = 62), and (5) prematurity with ROP and with laser/laser + IVB treatment (n = 20). Neurocognitive function was evaluated by the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence, Fourth Edition (WPPSI-IV) around the age of 4 years. Visual acuity (VA) and refractive errors were tested. Correlations between WPPSI parameters and visual outcomes were analyzed across five groups. Results: Among the 300 recruited children (mean age = 4.02 + 0.97 years, male = 56.3%), 297 were assessed by WPPSI-IV and 142 were assessed by vision tests. The Full-Scale Intelligence Quotient (FSIQ) index was worse in the premature groups. After adjusting for covariates, seven items, including FSIQ-Index (p = 0.047), fluid-reasoning index (p = 0.004), FR-percentile ranking (p = 0.008), object assembly (p = 0.034), picture concept (p = 0.034), zoo locations (p = 0.014) and bug search (p = 0.020), showed significant differences between groups. The better the best corrected VA (BCVA), the higher the scores on Verbal Comprehension Index (VCI), VCI-PR, and the subtest of information. Conclusions: Specific cognitive dysfunctions are related to the BCVA in this large cohort. Subtest performance profiles in WPPSI can be affected by prematurity, ROP treatment, and different ROP treatment. FSIQ is generally lower in premature children and even lower in children with ROP.

Abstract:Purpose. To identify the structural and microvascular changes in the retina in children with aggressive posterior retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) with early and pronounced clinical features using spectral optical coherence tomography (SOCT) with angiography function. Material and methods. SOCT was performed in 40 premature infants (40 eyes) with aggressive posterior ROP, born at 25–28 weeks gestation, with a birth weight of 680–1350 g. 15 infants had early clinical features, optical coherence tomography with angiography function (OCT-A) was performed in 4. 25 infants had pronounced clinical features, OCT-A was performed in 3. The comparison group included 10 premature infants (10 eyes) without signs of ROP, as well as 23 children (23 eyes) with an unfavorable type of stage 3 of classical active ROP. Results. Early clinical features of aggressive posterior ROP were characterized by the absence of an avascular zone in fovea, vasodilation of the superficial and deep retinal plexus, the presence of intraretinal neovascularization in the perifovea, and multiple arteriolo-venular shunts. The severity of the pathological process in children with pronounced clinical features of aggressive posterior ROP reflected the development of massive neovascularization affecting all structures of the vitreoretinal interface, as well as the presence of areas of retinoschisis, indicating a high risk of the retinal detachment. Conclusion. The studies revealed gross structural and microvascular retinal pathology in children with aggressive posterior ROP at an early stage already, which indicates the indisputable importance of the earliest diagnosis, and, consequently, earlier treatment, which plays a key role in creating favorable conditions for the visual functions development. Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the incidence and risk factors of ROP (retinopathy of prematurity) through a prospective multicenter study. METHODS:Eleven children's or maternal & child hospitals participated in a collective network. All infants of birth weight < 2000 g, born in or transferred to one of the participating centers from January 1st 2005 to February 28th 2006 were recruited. Timely ophthalmologic examinations were performed. The relevant data at baseline and endpoints were collected at each unit. RESULTS:A total of 882 preterm infants fulfilled the screening criteria and 752 finished a followup. And 123 infants (16.4%) had some degree of ROP. Infants with ROP had a lower gestational age, birth weight and a longer duration of oxygen versus those without ROP [(30.82 +/- 0.20) weeks vs (32.56 +/- 0.09) weeks, (1430 +/- 25) g vs (1636 +/-10) g, (11.6 +/- 1.4) d vs (4.4 +/- 0.3) d]. Through a univariate analysis, birth weight, gestational age, asphyxia, oxygen duration > 5 days, apnea, surfactant usage, pneumonia, anemia, blood transfusion, acidosis and neonatal respiratory distress syndrome (NRDS) were associated with ROP (P < 0.05). Logistic regression analysis showed that birth weight (OR = 0.998), apnea (OR = 1.653) and blood transfusion (OR = 1.763) were independent risk factors for ROP. CONCLUSION:Asphyxia, oxygen duration > 5 days, surfactant usage, anemia, acidosis and NRDS, lower birth weight, apnea and blood transfusion may improve the risks of ROP.
Optical coherence tomography angiography for the assessment of retinal microvasculature characteristics in preterm-born children: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Abstract:This study aimed to evaluate the usefulness of optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) in assessing retinal microvascular structural changes in preterm-born children and compare them with those in term-born children. The Web of Science Library, Cochrane Library, PubMed, Embase, CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, and Sino Med databases were searched systematically to extract studies published till April 25, 2023. Two independent reviewers searched all the literature and completed the data extraction and quality assessment. Mean differences (MDs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were used to assess the continuous estimates. STATA software (v15.1; StataCorp, College Station, TX) was used to analyze the data. Twelve published studies were eligible for inclusion in this study. The meta-analysis revealed that the foveal avascular zone (FAZ) area of preterm-born children was remarkably smaller than that of term-born children, with the laser photocoagulation (LP)-ROP group showing the most pronounced reduction. The foveal superficial capillary plexus vessel density (SCP-VD) and deep capillary plexus vessel density (DCP-VD) were remarkably higher in the preterm-born group than in the control group, with variations in subgroups (LP-ROP, anti-VEGF-ROP, SR-ROP, and Pre-T-ROP). The parafoveal SCP-VD was remarkably lower in preterm-born children compared to that of the controls, while no significant difference was identified in the parafoveal DCP-VD. Preterm-born children had a smaller FAZ area, higher foveal SCP-VD and DCP-VD, and lower parafoveal SCP-VD compared to their term-born counterparts. The parafoveal DCP-VD did not differ substantially between preterm- and term-born children. OCTA is an effective modality for assessing alterations in the retinal microvasculature in preterm children.

Abstract:Purpose: To evaluate choroidal changes over time in school-aged children with a history of prematurity. Methods: A study of 416 eyes, including 88, 190, 36, 56, and 46 eyes in the full-term control, preterm, spontaneously regressed retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), intravitreal bevacizumab (IVB)-treated ROP, and laser-treated ROP groups, respectively. The choroidal thickness was measured 4 times at 6-month intervals by optical coherence tomography. Results: Of all the groups, the laser-treated children had the thinnest choroid compared with full-term children (−52.3 μm, P = .04). Preterm children exhibited greater attenuation in choroidal thickness over time than did full-term children (−6.3 ± 26.9 and −1.1 ± 12.8 μm/year, P = .03), whereas no difference was observed between IVB and laser treatments (−4.6 ± 18.9 and −2.0 ± 15.7 μm/year, P = .46). In all groups, the changes in axial length were negatively associated with the changes in choroidal thickness (all P < .05). Conclusion: A greater attenuation in choroid thickness over time was observed in preterm children than in full-term children, but this attenuation did not differ between IVB and laser treatments. Axial elongation was associated with choroidal thinning in school-aged children.

Neurodevelopmental Outcomes for Retinopathy of Prematurity: A Nationwide Database Study

Abstract:Purpose To evaluate the neurodevelopmental outcomes in premature infants who received intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) injections to treat retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). Design A retrospective cohort study. Methods This study was conducted using the database from the Taiwan Premature Infant Follow-up Network. Demographic data, systemic risk factors, ROP status, and neurodevelopmental assessment using the Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development, Third Edition (Bayley-III) were collected. Patients were divided into 4 groups: prematurity without ROP, ROP without treatment, ROP with laser treatment, and ROP with intravitreal anti-VEGF treatment. Generalized estimating equation was used for analyzing repeated measurements of Bayley-III at corrected ages of 6, 12, and 24 months. Results 2090 patients with a mean gestational age of 31.2 weeks were included. The Bayley-III composite scores of patients with ROP treated with anti-VEGF were comparable to those of patients with ROP without treatment (cognitive: P = 0.491; language: P = 0.201; motor: P = 0.151) and premature patients without ROP (cognitive: P = 0.985; language: P = 0.452; motor: P = 0.169) after adjusting for confounders. Patients with ROP treated with laser photocoagulation exhibited poorer cognitive composite scores than did those without treatment ( P < 0.001), premature patients without ROP ( P < 0.001), and those treated with anti-VEGF ( P < 0.001), but they had similar language and motor composite scores. Conclusions Intravitreal anti-VEGF treatment for ROP was not associated with adverse neurodevelopment in premature infants. Further studies are needed to determine whether general anesthesia or sedation used in laser treatment for ROP has significant impacts on neurodevelopmental outcomes.

Abstract:BACKGROUND:Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) continues to be a major cause of visual impairment and blindness in premature infants and children.OBJECTIVES:To investigate the incidence of severe ROP receiving treatment in extremely preterm (EP) infants in China over time. The risk factors for ROP treatment were also assessed.METHODS:This was a multicentre retrospective study and a subanalysis of baseline data from the "Outcomes of EP infants in China 2010-2019" study. This study was conducted in 68 tertiary neonatal care centres from 31 provinces of China. Infants with a gestational age of 230 -276 weeks and admitted to a neonatal unit within the first 72 h of life between 2010 and 2019 were enrolled. Incidence of ROP was analysed in infants who survived to 32 weeks postmenstrual age and screened for ROP. Multivariable modified Poisson regression models were used to identify risk factors for ROP treatment.RESULTS:Among 7295 eligible infants, 4701 (64.5%) survived to 32 weeks postmenstrual age and met ROP screening criteria. Of the 3756 infants who screened and with ROP data, 2320 (61.8%) developed ROP of any stage. The overall incidence of ROP treatment was 12.6%, decreasing from 45.5% at 23 weeks to 8.3% at 27 weeks. During the 10-year period, the incidence of ROP treatment did not change, although the incidence of any ROP increased over time. Independent risk factors associated with ROP treatment included lower gestational age, small for gestational age, multiple birth, severe intraventricular haemorrhage, patent ductus arteriosus and supplemental oxygen duration.CONCLUSIONS:The incidence of EP infants receiving ROP treatment showed no change during this 10-year period in China. Prevention of prematurity and foetal growth restriction, judicious use of oxygen and reducing comorbidities are promising factors that may reduce the incidence of ROP needing treatment in these high-risk infants.
