Abstract:Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) refers to a group of neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism, Asperger's syndrome (AS), and pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified (PDD-NOS). [ 1 ] ASD is a term used to describe a group of early-appearing social communication deficits and repetitive sensorimotor behaviors associated with a strong genetic component and other causes. [ 2 ] The prevalence of ASD in children and adolescents is 0.36% in Asia [ 3 ] and 1.85% in Western countries. [ 4 ]
