PINN incorporates physical law into the deep learning architecture, which constrains possible solutions from the neural network. The utilization of PINN for the Navier-Stokes equations is still in its infancy, with many questions to resolve, e.g., the most suitable form of the physical laws. This paper studies the capability of PINN for solving the Navier-Stokes equations in two formulations (velocity-pressure and the Cauchy stress tensor) to solve three benchmark problems, namely, the Poiseuille flow, the Couette flow, and the lid-driven cavity flow. We investigated the PINN architectures, loss weights, boundary condition value, and transfer learning technique in depth. Then, we concentrated on assessing the PINN's performance, especially its accuracy and simulation times. The results showed the PINN performed well by producing a good accuracy on the benchmark problems. Furthermore, the velocity-pressure formulations generally outperformed the Cauchy stress tensor formulations. In addition, we observed that applying adaptive loss weights values might reduce the time required to develop solutions. Finally, it is observed that transfer learning can be employed to accelerate PINN for solving problems with different conditions.
