Abstract:Urea is intensively utilized as a nitrogen fertilizer in agriculture, originating either from root uptake or from catabolism of arginine by arginase. Despite its extensive use, the underlying physiological mechanisms of urea, particularly its adverse effects on seed germination and seedling growth under salt stress, remain unclear. In this study, we demonstrate that salt stress induces excessive hydrolysis of arginine-derived urea, leading to an increase in cytoplasmic pH within seed radical cells, which, in turn, triggers salt-induced inhibition of seed germination (SISG) and hampers seedling growth. Our findings challenge the long-held belief that ammonium accumulation and toxicity are the primary causes of SISG, offering a novel perspective on the mechanism underlying these processes. This study provides significant insights into the physiological impact of urea hydrolysis under salt stress, contributing to a better understanding of SISG.

Salt Stress and Ethylene Antagonistically Regulate Nucleocytoplasmic Partitioning of Cop1 to Control Seed Germination

Abstract:Seed germination, a critical stage initiating the life cycle of a plant, is severely affected by salt stress. However, the underlying mechanism of salt inhibition of seed germination (SSG) is unclear. Here, we report that the Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) CONSTITUTIVE PHOTOMORPHOGENESIS1 (COP1) counteracts SSG. Genetic assays provide evidence that SSG in loss of function of the COP1 mutant was stronger than this in the wild type. A GUS-COP1 fusion was constitutively localized to the nucleus in radicle cells. Salt treatment caused COP1 to be retained in the cytosol, but the addition of ethylene precursor 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate had the reverse effect on the translocation of COP1 to the nucleus, revealing that ethylene and salt exert opposite regulatory effects on the localization of COP1 in germinating seeds. However, loss of function of the ETHYLENE INSENSITIVE3 (EIN3) mutant impaired the ethylene-mediated rescue of the salt restriction of COP1 to the nucleus. Further research showed that the interaction between COP1 and LONG HYPOCOTYL5 (HY5) had a role in SSG. Correspondingly, SSG in loss of function of HY5 was suppressed. Biochemical detection showed that salt promoted the stabilization of HY5, whereas ethylene restricted its accumulation. Furthermore, salt treatment stimulated and ethylene suppressed transcription of ABA INSENSITIVE5 (ABI5), which was directly transcriptionally regulated by HY5. Together, our results reveal that salt stress and ethylene antagonistically regulate nucleocytoplasmic partitioning of COP1, thereby controlling Arabidopsis seed germination via the COP1-mediated down-regulation of HY5 and ABI5. These findings enhance our understanding of the stress response and have great potential for application in agricultural production.

Abstract:Salinity stress is serious threat to crop productivity and globe food security. This study investigated the impact of NaCl (neutral salt) and basic salt (basic salt) on seed germination physiological and biochemical traits of Amorpha fruticosa. Salt stress had no significant effect on seed germination rate, however, alkali stress significantly decreased (p≤0.05) rate of germination. Both stresses also negatively affected the growth of radicle and germination (P <0.05), and the effect of alkali stress was greater than that of salt stress. The concentration of K+, Mg2+ and Na+/K+ in radicle and germ remained relatively stable, which was conducive to adapting to salt and alkali stress, but the concentration of K+, Mg2+, NO3-, H2PO4- and SO42- changed differently under salt and alkali stress. Tartaric acid was the main component of the 8 organic acids, and the accumulation changes of each component were different under salt stress and base stress. Tartaric acid was accumulated in large quantities under salt stress, and the accumulation of other acids (citric, malic, acetic, oxalic, formic and lactic acids) were markedly enhanced under alkali stress (P <0.05). Among the 16 free amino acids, arginine, alanine and threonine are the response solutes under salt stress, and glutamic acid and threonine are the response solutes under base stress. In In conclusion, proper concentration of salts can promote seed germination and radicle growth. Therefore, plant performance can be improved by soaking seeds in appropriate concentration of salts.

Abstract:Salt stress is one of the major adverse factors affecting plant growth and crop production. Rapeseed is an important oil crop, providing high-quality edible oil for human consumption. This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of salt stress on the phenotypic traits and physiological processes of rapeseed. The soil salinity was manipulated by setting three different levels: 0 g NaCl kg−1 soil (referred to as S0), 1.5 g NaCl kg−1 soil (referred to as S1), and 3.0 g NaCl kg−1 soil (referred to as S2). In general, the results indicated that the plant height, leaf area, and root neck diameter decreased with an increase in soil salinity. In addition, the biomass of various organs at all growth stages decreased as soil salinity increased from S0 to S2. The increasing soil salinity improved the distribution of biomass in the root and leaf at the seedling and flowering stages, indicating that rapeseed plants subjected to salt stress during the vegetative stage are capable of adapting their growth pattern to sustain their capacity for nutrient and water uptake, as well as leaf photosynthesis. However, as the soil salinity increased, there was a decrease in the distribution of biomass in the pod and seed at the maturity stage, while an increase was observed in the root and stem, suggesting that salt stress inhibited carbohydrate transport into reproductive organs. Moreover, the C and N accumulation at the flowering and maturity stages exhibited a reduction in direct correlation with the increase in soil salinity. High soil salinity resulted in a reduction in the C/N, indicating that salt stress exerted a greater adverse effect on C assimilation compared to N assimilation, leading to an increase in seed protein content and a decrease in oil content. Furthermore, as soil salinity increased from S0 to S2, the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) and the content of soluble protein and sugar increased by 58.39%, 33.38%, 15.57%, and 13.88% at the seedling stage, and 38.69%, 22.85%, 12.04%, and 8.26% at the flowering stage, respectively. In summary, this study revealed that salt stress inhibited C and N assimilation, leading to a suppressed phenotype and biomass accumulation. The imbalanced C and N assimilation under salt stress contributed to the alterations in the seed oil and protein content. Rapeseed had a certain degree of salt tolerance by improving antioxidants and osmolytes.

Abstract:Soybean is an important and staple oilseed crop worldwide. Salinity stress has adverse effects on soybean development periods, especially on seed germination and post-germinative growth. Improving seed germination and emergence will have positive effects under salt stress conditions on agricultural production. Here we report that NaCl delays soybean seed germination by negatively regulating gibberellin (GA) while positively mediating abscisic acid (ABA) biogenesis, which leads to a decrease in the GA/ABA ratio. This study suggests that fluridone (FLUN), an ABA biogenesis inhibitor, might be a potential plant growth regulator that can promote soybean seed germination under saline stress. Different soybean cultivars, which possessed distinct genetic backgrounds, showed a similar repressed phenotype during seed germination under exogenous NaCl application. Biochemical analysis revealed that NaCl treatment led to high MDA (malondialdehyde) level during germination and the post-germinative growth stages. Furthermore, catalase, superoxide dismutase, and peroxidase activities also changed after NaCl treatment. Subsequent quantitative Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction analysis showed that the transcription levels of ABA and GA biogenesis and signaling genes were altered after NaCl treatment. In line with this, phytohormone measurement also revealed that NaCl considerably down-regulated active GA1, GA3, and GA4 levels, whereas the ABA content was up-regulated; and therefore ratios, such as GA1/ABA, GA3/ABA, and GA4/ABA, are decreased. Consistent with the hormonal quantification, FLUN partially rescued the delayed-germination phenotype caused by NaCl-treatment. Altogether, these results demonstrate that NaCl stress inhibits soybean seed germination by decreasing the GA/ABA ratio, and that FLUN might be a potential plant growth regulator that could promote soybean seed germination under salinity stress.

Abstract:Soil salinization is an essential environmental stressor, threatening agricultural yield and ecological security worldwide. Saline soils accumulate excessive soluble salts which are detrimental to most plants by limiting plant growth and productivity. It is of great necessity for plants to efficiently deal with the adverse effects caused by salt stress for survival and successful reproduction. Multiple determinants of salt tolerance have been identified in plants, and the cellular and physiological mechanisms of plant salt response and adaption have been intensely characterized. Plants respond to salt stress signals and rapidly initiate signaling pathways to re-establish cellular homeostasis with adjusted growth and cellular metabolism. This review summarizes the advances in salt stress perception, signaling, and response in plants. A better understanding of plant salt resistance will contribute to improving crop performance under saline conditions using multiple engineering approaches. The rhizosphere microbiome-mediated plant salt tolerance as well as chemical priming for enhanced plant salt resistance are also discussed in this review.
Effects of Complex Salt and Alkali Conditions on the Germination of Seeds of Puccinellia Tenuiflora

Abstract:The stress conditions of salt-alkalinized soil were simulated to investigate the effects of alkali-saline mixed stress on the germination of seeds of Puccinellia tenuiflora.The features of salt-alkalinized soil in northeast China were simulated using 24 kinds of alkali-saline conditions with different salinities and pH obtained by mixing two neutral salts(NaCl and Na_2SO_4) and two alkalie salts(NaHCO_3 and Na_2CO_3) in various proportions.The seeds of P.tenuiflora were treated with the mixed salts and their germination rate and germination energy were investigated.The effects on germination of P.tenuiflora seeds of various mixed salts with different alkalinities were similar.Seed germination was delayed,and the germination rate,and speed of sprouting decreased as the salinity increased.The seeds did not sprout when the salinity was over 300 mmol/L.Statistical analysis showed that salinity was the dominant stress factor which inhibited the seed sprouting.At the stage of seed germination,water absorption was the key factor that determined whether the seeds did or did not sprout.Since salinity determined water absorption,it was a decisive factor while other indices,such as pH and buffer capacity were irrelevant to the water potential,as they had no decisive effect on germination.
Study on the Effect of Salt Stress on Yield and Grain Quality Among Different Rice Varieties

Abstract:Salt is one of the main factors limiting the use of mudflats. In this study, the yield, quality, and mineral content of rice seeds under salt stress were investigated. A pot experiment was conducted with Yangyugeng2, Xudao9, and Huageng5 under 0, 17.1, 25.6, and 34.2 mM NaCl of salt concentration treatments. The results showed that salt stress can significantly decrease panicle number, grain number per panicle, 1000-grain weight and yield of rice, and the panicle number was among other things the main cause of yield loss under saline conditions. When the salt concentration is less than 34.2 mM NaCl, the salt stress increases the brown rice rate and milled rice rate, thus significant increasing head milled rice rate of salt-sensitive varieties but decreasing in salt-tolerant varieties. In addition, the grain length is more sensitive than grain width to salt stress. This study also indicates that different varieties of rice exhibit different salt tolerance under salt stress, the three rice varieties in this study, in order of salt tolerance, are Xudao9, Huageng5, and Yangyugeng2. Salt stress will increase the appearance, viscosity, degree of balance, and taste value, and decrease the hardness of rice when salt concentration is less than 17.1 mM NaCl in Yangyugeng2 and Huageng5 or 25.6 mM NaCl in Xudao9. The differences in starch pasting properties among rice varieties in this study are larger than those caused by salt stress. The uptake capacity of K, Mg, P, S, and Cu ions in the seeds of different rice varieties significantly vary, and salt stress causes significant differences in the uptake capacity of K, Na, and Cu ions in rice seeds. Rice varieties with high salt tolerance can be selected for the development and utilization of mudflats, and low concentration of salt stress will increase the rice quality, all of which are meaningful to agricultural production.

Abstract:Salinity is the major environmental stress source that restricts on agricultural productivity and sustainability in arid and semiarid regions by a reduction in the germination rate and a delay in the initiation of germination and subsequent seedling establishment. Salt negatively effects the crop production worldwide. Because most of the cultivated plants are salt-sensitive glycophytes. Salt stress affects the seed germination and seedling establishment through osmotic stress, ion toxicity, and oxidative stress. Salinity may adversely influence seed germination by decreasing the amounts of seed germination stimulants such as GAs, enhancing ABA amounts, and altering membrane permeability and water behavior in the seed. Rapid seed germination and subsequent seedling establishment are important factors affecting crop production under salinity conditions. Seed priming is one of the useful physiological approaches for adaptation of glycophyte species to saline conditions during germination and subsequent seedling establishment. In seed priming, seeds are exposed to an eliciting solution for a certain period that allows partial hydration without radicle protrusion. Seed priming is a simple, low cost, and powerful biotechnological tool used to overcome the salinity problem in agricultural lands.
Understanding of the postgerminative development response to salinity and drought stresses in cucumber seeds by integrated proteomics and transcriptomics analysis

Abstract:The postgerminative development is a complex, genetically programmed process, and also the most dangerous period before the developing seedlings reach the autotrophy state. To obtain a comprehensive understanding of postgerminative development mechanism, the study focuses on an integrative analysis on transcriptome, proteome, and microRNA in cucumber seeds under drought and salt stress. Drought and salt stress caused differential expression of 4197 mRNAs, 36 microRNAs and 768 proteins compared with the control, and 827 mRNAs, 364 proteins, and 12 microRNAs were shared by the two stresses. Numerous common differentially expressed genes and proteins participated the signal transduction of plant hormone, photosynthesis, and argine and proline metabolism. We noted the correlation among nitric oxide, polyamine, proline, and ethylene metabolism, thereby helping to elucidate the role of these substances, which are derived either directly or indirectly from arginine, in the regulation of abiotic stress and provide a basis for building better network-based molecular models in further research. Above findings contribute to new and useful information regarding the common molecular mechanisms during cucumber seedling development under drought and salt stress. SIGNIFICANCE: Water scarcity and high salt are two of the most destructive and wide stress factors which limit the growth and progression of plants by affecting a variety of vital physiological and biochemical processes. Our study focuses on an integrative analysis on transcriptome, proteome, and microRNA for confirming the essential regulators as well as pathways using cucumber postgerminative development under drought and salt stress. Arginine metabolism is a vital response to abiotic stress during cucumber seed germination.
Exogenous SA Affects Rice Seed Germination under Salt Stress by Regulating Na+/K+ Balance and Endogenous GAs and ABA Homeostasis

Abstract:Salinity reduces agricultural productivity majorly by inhibiting seed germination. Exogenous salicylic acid (SA) can prevent the harm caused to rice by salinity, but the mechanisms by which it promotes rice seed germination under salt stress are unclear. In this study, the inhibition of germination in salt-sensitive Nipponbare under salt stress was greater than that in salt-tolerant Huaidao 5. Treatment with exogenous SA significantly improved germination of Nipponbare, but had little effect on Huaidao 5. The effects of exogenous SA on ion balance, metabolism of reactive oxygen species (ROS), hormone homeostasis, starch hydrolysis, and other physiological processes involved in seed germination of rice under salt stress were investigated. Under salt stress, Na+ content and the Na+/K+ ratio in rice seeds increased sharply. Seeds were subjected to ion pressure, which led to massive accumulation of H2O2, O2−, and malonaldehyde (MDA); imbalanced endogenous hormone homeostasis; decreased gibberellic acid (GA1 and GA4) content; increased abscisic acid (ABA) content; inhibition of α-amylase (EC 3.2.1.1) activity; and slowed starch hydrolysis rate, all which eventually led to the inhibition of the germination of rice seeds. Exogenous SA could effectively enhance the expression of OsHKT1;1, OsHKT1;5, OsHKT2;1 and OsSOS1 to reduce the absorption of Na+ by seeds; reduce the Na+/K+ ratio; improve the activities of SOD, POD, and CAT; reduce the accumulation of H2O2, O2−, and MDA; enhance the expression of the GA biosynthetic genes OsGA20ox1 and OsGA3ox2; inhibit the expression of the ABA biosynthetic gene OsNCED5; increase GA1 and GA4 content; reduce ABA content; improve α-amylase activity, and increase the content of soluble sugars. In summary, exogenous SA can alleviate ion toxicity by reducing Na+ content, thereby helping to maintain ROS and hormone homeostasis, promote starch hydrolysis, and provide sufficient energy for seed germination, all of which ultimately improves rice seed germination under salt stress. This study presents a feasible means for improving the germination of direct-seeded rice in saline soil.

Effects of Plant Regulators on the Seed Germination and Antioxidant Enzyme Activity of Cotton under Compound Salt Stress

Abstract:Salinity stress significantly hampers cotton seed germination and seedling growth. Employing plant growth regulators stands out as an effective strategy to mitigate salt stress. In this study, we assessed the impact of varying concentrations of natural composite salt conditions (0%, 0.6%, and 1.2%) on cotton seed germination, seedling growth, and physiology. Additionally, we explored the effects of compound sodium nitrophenolate (CSN: 2 mg·L−1 and 10 mg·L−1), 24-epibrassinolide (EBR: 0.02 mg·L−1 and 0.1 mg·L−1), and gibberellic acid (GA: 60 mg·L−1 and 300 mg·L−1), against a control (CK: distilled water) group. The results indicate that with an increase in the composite salt concentration, the germination potential (GP) and germination rate (GR) of cotton seeds gradually decrease. Simultaneously, the fresh weight and root vitality of seedlings also correspondingly decrease, while the degree of membrane lipid peroxidation increases. Under high-salt (1.2%) conditions, soaking treatments with CSN and EBR significantly enhance both GP (45–59% and 55–64%) and GR (30–33% and 39–36%) compared to the CK. However, the GA treatment does not increase the GP and GR of cotton. Moreover, under high-salt (1.2%) conditions, CSN and EBR treatments result in the increased activities of superoxide dismutase (56–66% and 71–80%), peroxidase (20–24% and 37–51%), and catalase (26–32% and 35–46%). Consequently, cotton exhibits a relatively good tolerance to natural composite salts. Soaking treatments with CSN and EBR effectively improve cotton germination by enhancing antioxidant enzyme activities, thereby strengthening cotton's tolerance to salt stress. These findings offer new insights for enhancing the salt tolerance of cotton.

Abstract:Soil salinization is an important factor that limits crop production. The effects of spraying salicylic acid (SA) during the grain-filling stage on the salt tolerance of progeny seeds in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) were investigated in this study. The results showed that spraying SA during the grain-filling stage significantly increased the grain weight and yield of wheat plants. Meanwhile, the seeds from the SA-treated plants showed a higher germination rate, length and dry mass of the coleoptile and radicle, and a lower mean germination time compared to the seeds of water-treated plants under the salt germination condition, indicating that SA pretreatment during the grain-filling stage could effectively improve the salt tolerance of progeny seeds in wheat. SA pretreatment significantly increased the activities of amylases and the respiration rate, accompanied by a decrease in starch content, and a higher accumulation in the level of soluble sugars and adenosine triphosphate (ATP) in the germinated seedlings compared to the water pretreatment under salt stress. In addition, SA pretreatment obviously alleviated the increase in malondialdehyde (MDA) content and the reactive oxygen species (ROS) release rate in seedlings by activating antioxidant enzymes (superoxide dismutase (SOD) and peroxidase (POD)) under salt stress. Moreover, the seedlings of the SA-treated plants showed lower Na+ and higher K+ contents compared to the seeds of water-treated plants under salt stress. The results of this study indicate that spraying SA during the grain-filling stage improves the capacity of offspring seeds to maintain osmotic and ion balance and redox homeostasis under salt stress, thereby conferring salt tolerance to the wheat seeds.

Abstract:Salt stress inhibits plant growth,and its damage to plants differs with salt concentration. In this paper,a pot experiment was conducted to study the eco-physiological adaptability of Suaeda heteroptera Kitagawa under different salt conditions. The results showed that the inhibitory effect of salt on the growth of S. heteroptera seedlings increased with increasing salt concentration. Under low salinity stress,the fresh and dry weights and the water content of shoots and roots had no significant difference with the control; but under high salinity stress,the seedling growth was seriously affected,with more inhibition on shoots than on roots. When the NaCl concentration was lower than 200 mmol·L-1,there was a positive correlation between the free praline,soluble sugar,and protein contents in shoots and the salinity; when the NaCl concentration was higher than 300 mmol·L-1,there was a negative correlation between osmosis-regulating substance concentration and salinity.
Effects of Salt Stress on the Seed Germination of Apocynum Venetum

Abstract:Apocynum venetum seeds were treated with four kinds of solutions(NaCl, Na_2SO_4,Na_2CO_3 and the mixture of three solutions)which were consisted of different concen- trations,and then allayed the salt stress.The seed germination rate,viability and index of halophyt-A,venetum were measured and analyzed.The results showed that the A.venetum seed germination rate,viability and index reduced with increasing of salt concentrations of four solutions.Low concentrations of NaCl(≤50mmol/L),Na_2SO_4(≤10mmol/L)promoted ger- mination of seeds,while high concentrations of NaCl(≥200mmol/L)and Na_2SO_4(≥150 mmol/L)restrained it.However,different concentrations of both Na_2CO_3 and the mixture solu- tions restrained germination of seeds.After allaying the salt stress,seed germination rates re- duced with the increase of pre-treatment salt concentrations.
Effect of arginine and urea on polyamines content and growth of bean under salinity stress

Abstract:Prior to sowing, seeds of bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) were treated with 4 mM arginine or 0.1% urea, as nitrogen source. The seeds were then subjected to salinity stress. Arginine and urea treatments stimulated germination of both unstressed and salinity-stressed seeds. It was interesting to observe that the increased germination percentage in response to arginine and urea treatments was associated with increased content of polyamines, particularly putrescine (Put), spermidine (Spd) and spermine (Spm). Growth of the seedlings was also improved by application of arginine and urea, which was also associated with increased content of the polyamines Spd and Spm, while the Put content decreased. Total soluble sugars were much accumulated in response to arginine and urea treatments under salinity stress for cellular osmoregulation. The ratio of K+/Na+ increased in the leaves by application of arginine and urea, indicating a more alleviation to the adverse effects of salinity stress. Changes in proteinogenic amino acids were also investigated.

Abstract:Soil salinization has been considered as a major environmental threat to plant growth. Different types of salt in saline soil have different effects on germination and seedling growth. Effect of NaCl on germination and seedling establishment in Suaeda liaotungensis have been reported, but its response to alkali stress remains unclear. Our results showed that brown seeds had higher germination rate, however, black seeds had higher germination recovery percentage under alkali stress. Na 2 CO 3 had stronger inhibitory effect on germination and seedling growth than NaHCO 3 . As the concentration of alkali stress increased, the ROS level of brown seeds gradually ascended, while that of black seeds decreased first and then ascended. MDA content of dimorphic seeds significantly increased under alkali stress. The trend of SOD, POD and CAT activity between dimorphic seeds was similar under the same type of alkali stress. Alkali stress enhanced proline content of dimorphic seeds, and dimorphic seeds in NaHCO 3 solution had higher proline content than Na 2 CO 3 solution. Moreover, radicle and shoot tolerance indexes of seedlings in NaHCO 3 solution were significantly higher than that of Na 2 CO 3 solution. Under strong alkali stress, seedlings in NaHCO 3 solution had significantly lower ROS level and MDA content as well as higher antioxidant enzyme activity than Na 2 CO 3 solution. This study comprehensively compared the morphological and physiological characteristics in germination and seedlings to better reveal the saline-alkali tolerance mechanisms in S. liaotungensis .

Abstract:Salt stress is a major abiotic stress threatening plant growth and development throughout the world. In this study, we investigated the salt stress adaptation mechanism of Carex rigescens (Franch.) V. Krecz, a stress-tolerant turfgrass species with a wide distribution in northern China. Specifically, we analyzed the growth, physiology, and transcript expression patterns of two C. rigescens genotypes (Huanghua and Lvping No.1) exposed to salt stress. Results show that Huanghua demonstrated better growth performance, and higher turf quality (TQ), photochemical efficiency (Fv/Fm), relative water content (RWC), proline content, and lower relative electrolyte leakage (REL) during seven days of salt treatment compared to Lvping No.1, suggesting that Huanghua is more salt tolerant. Significant differences in reactive oxygen species (ROS), Malondialdehyde (MDA), melatonin, non-enzymatic antioxidants, lignin, and flavonoid content, as well as in antioxidant activity between Huanghua and Lvping No.1 after salt stress indicate the diverse regulation involved in salt stress adaptation in C. rigescens. These results, combined with those of the transcript expression pattern of involved genes, suggest that Huanghua is more active and efficient in ROS scavenging, Ca2+ binding, and its phytohormone response than Lvping No.1. Meanwhile, Lvping No.1 showed relatively higher phenylpropanoid synthesis, using flavonoid and lignin as supplements for the inadequate ROS-scavenging capacity and the development of vascular tissues, respectively. These performances illustrate the differences between the two genotypes in multifaceted and sophisticated actions contributing to the tolerance mechanism of salt stress in C. rigescens. In addition, the significantly higher content of melatonin and the rapid induction of Caffeic acid O-methyltransferase (COMT) highlight the role of melatonin in the salt stress response in Huanghua. The results of our study expand existing knowledge of the complexity of the salt stress response involving the antioxidant system, Ca2+ signaling, phytohormone response signaling, and phenylpropanoid pathways. It also provides a basis for further study of the underlying mechanism of salt tolerance in C. rigescens and other plant species.
