Abstract:Let $G$ be a representation-theoretic Kac--Moody group associated to a nonsingular symmetrizable generalized Cartan matrix. We first consider Kac-Moody analogs of Borel Eisenstein series (induced from quasicharacters on the Borel), and prove they converge almost everywhere inside the Tits cone for arbitrary spectral parameters in the Godement range. We then use this result to show the full absolute convergence everywhere inside the Tits cone (again for spectral parameters in the Godement range) for a class of Kac-Moody groups satisfying a certain combinatorial property, in particular for rank-2 hyperbolic groups.

Abstract:With the aim of understanding Morel's result on the $\mathbb{A}^1$-homotopy sheaves over a field, one extends the theory of unstable spectral sequences of Bousfield and Kan in the $\infty$-categorical setting. With this natural extension, parallel to the classical formalism of 'cohomology theory with supports', we introduce the notion of 'cohomotopy theory with supports'. We extend the Bloch-Ogus-Gabber theorem for Cohomology theory with supports to that of unstable setting, to obtain unstable Gersten (or Cousin) resolutions associated to the coniveau filtration, under suitable assumptions. We apply this theory to motivic homotopy, Nisnevich-local torsors, and Artin-Mazur étale homotopy type.

Abstract:The Leray--Serre and the Eilenberg--Moore spectral sequences are fundamental tools for computing the cohomology of a group or, more generally, of a space. We describe the relationship between these two spectral sequences when both of them share the same abutment. There exists a joint tri-graded refinement of the Leray--Serre and the Eilenberg--Moore spectral sequence. This refinement involves two more spectral sequences, the preludes from the title, which abut to the initial terms of the Leray--Serre and the Eilenberg--Moore spectral sequence, respectively. We show that one of these always degenerates from its second page on and that the other one satisfies a local-to-global property: It degenerates for all possible base spaces if and only if it does so when the base space is contractible.

Abstract:Thomason's étale descent theorem for Bott periodic algebraic $K$-theory \cite{aktec} is generalized to any $MGL$ module over a regular Noetherian scheme of finite dimension. Over arbitrary Noetherian schemes of finite dimension, this generalizes the analog of Thomason's theorem for Weibel's homotopy $K$-theory. This is achieved by amplifying the effects from the case of motivic cohomology, using the slice spectral sequence in the case of the universal example of algebraic cobordism. We also obtain integral versions of these statements: Bousfield localization at étale motivic cohomology is the universal way to impose étale descent for these theories. As applications, we describe the étale local objects in modules over these spectra and show that they satisfy the full six functor formalism, construct an étale descent spectral sequence converging to Bott-inverted motivic Landweber exact theories, and prove cellularity and effectivity of the étale versions of these motivic spectra.

On multiplicative spectral sequences for nerves and the free loop spaces

Abstract:We construct a multiplicative spectral sequence converging to the cohomology algebra of the diagonal complex of a bisimplicial set with coefficients in a field. The construction provides a spectral sequence converging to the cohomology algebra of the classifying space of a topological category. By applying the machinery to a Borel construction, we determine explicitly the mod $p$ cohomology algebra of the free loop space of the real projective space for each odd prime $p$. This is highlighted as an important computational example of such a spectral sequence. Moreover, we try to represent generators in the singular de Rham cohomology algebra of the diffeological free loop space of a non-simply connected manifold $M$ with differential forms on the universal cover of $M$ via Chen's iterated integral map.

Abstract:We compute the MU-based syntomic cohomologies, mod $(p,v_1,\cdots,v_{n+1})$, of all $\mathbb{E}_1$-MU-algebra forms of connective Morava K-theory k(n). As qualitative consequences, we deduce the Lichtenbaum--Quillen conjecture, telescope conjecture, and redshift conjecture for the algebraic K-theories of all $\mathbb{E}_{1}$-$\mathbb{S}$-algebra forms of $(2p^n-2)$-periodic Morava K-theory. Notably, the motivic spectral sequence computing $\pi_*TC(k(n))_p$ is concentrated on at most three lines, independently of $n$.

Abstract:Let $\Phi\to \Gamma\to \Sigma$ be a conormal extension of Hopf algebras over a commutative ring $k$, and let $M$ be a $\Gamma$-comodule. The Cartan-Eilenberg spectral sequence $$ E_2 = \mathrm{Ext}_\Phi(k,\mathrm{Ext}_\Sigma(k,M)) \implies \mathrm{Ext}_\Gamma(k,M)$$ is a standard tool for computing the Hopf algebra cohomology of $\Gamma$ with coefficients in $M$ in terms of the cohomology of the pieces $\Phi$ and $\Sigma$. Bruner and Rognes, generalizing a construction of Davis and Mahowald, have introduced a generalization of the Cartan-Eilenberg spectral sequence converging to $\mathrm{Ext}_\Gamma(k,M)$ that can be defined when $\Phi = \Gamma\square_\Sigma k$ is compatibly an algebra and a $\Gamma$-comodule. We offer a concrete cobar-like construction that fits into their framework, and show how this work fits into a larger story. In particular, we show that this spectral sequence is isomorphic, starting at the $E_1$ page, to both the Adams spectral sequence in the stable category of $\Gamma$-comodules as studied by Margolis and Palmieri, and to a filtration spectral sequence on the cobar complex for $\Gamma$ originally due to Adams. We obtain a description of the $E_2$ term under an additional flatness assumption. We discuss applications to computing localizations of the Adams spectral sequence $E_2$ page.

Abstract:We construct a new type of spectral sequences for the mixed Hodge structures on the cohomology of locally symmetric varieties. These spectral sequences converge to the edge components in the Hodge triangles, and the E1 terms are expressed by simple geometric invariants associated to the cusps. They already degenerate at E1 in a certain range, which gives a simple expression of some Hodge components. An identity of holomorphic Euler numbers is obtained as a consequence. The theory of cellular (co)sheaves is used in the construction.

The inverse limit topology and profinite descent on Picard groups in $K(n)$-local homotopy theory

Abstract:In this paper, we study profinite descent theory for Picard groups in $K(n)$-local homotopy theory through their inverse limit topology. Building upon Burklund's result on the multiplicative structures of generalized Moore spectra, we prove that the module category over a $K(n)$-local commutative ring spectrum is equivalent to the limit of its base changes by a tower of generalized Moore spectra of type $n$. As a result, the $K(n)$-local Picard groups are endowed with a natural inverse limit topology. This topology allows us to identify the entire $E_1$ and $E_2$-pages of a descent spectral sequence for Picard spaces of $K(n)$-local profinite Galois extensions. Our main examples are $K(n)$-local Picard groups of homotopy fixed points $E_n^{hG}$ of the Morava $E$-theory $E_n$ for all closed subgroups $G$ of the Morava stabilizer group $\mathbb{G}_n$. The $G=\mathbb{G}_n$ case has been studied by Heard and Mor. At height $1$, we compute Picard groups of $E_1^{hG}$ for all closed subgroups $G$ of $\mathbb{G}_1=\mathbb{Z}_p^\times$ at all primes as a Mackey functor.

Picard and Brauer groups of $K(n)$-local spectra via profinite Galois descent

Abstract:Using the proétale site, we construct models for the continuous actions of the Morava stabiliser group on Morava E-theory, its $\infty$-category of $K(n)$-local modules, and its Picard spectrum. For the two sheaves of spectra, we evaluate the resulting descent spectral sequences: these can be thought of as homotopy fixed point spectral sequences for the profinite Galois extension $L_{K(n)} \mathbb S \to E_n$. We show that the descent spectral sequence for the Morava E-theory sheaf is the $K(n)$-local $E_n$-Adams spectral sequence. The spectral sequence for the sheaf of Picard spectra is closely related to one recently defined by Heard; our formalism allows us to compare many differentials with those in the $K(n)$-local $E_n$-Adams spectral sequence, and isolate the exotic Picard elements in the $0$-stem. In particular, we show how this recovers the computation due to Hopkins, Mahowald and Sadofsky of the group $\mathrm{Pic}_1$ at all primes. We also use these methods to bound the Brauer group of $K(n)$-local spectra, and compute this bound at height one.

Abstract:Similarities are noted in two Mayer-Vietoris spectral sequences that generalize to any number of ideals in the Mayer-Vietoris exact sequence in local cohomology for two ideals. One has as first terms Čech cohomology with respect to sums of the given ideals and converge to cohomology with respect to the product of the ideals, the other has as first terms Čech cohomology with respect to products of the given ideals and converge to cohomology with respect to the sum of the ideals. The first one was obtained by Lyubeznik in \cite{Lyu}, while the second is constructed in \cite[Chapter 2]{Hol} and could also be deduced from results in \cite{God}. We present results on the cohomology of multiple complexes that enables us to deduce both from two related constructions on multiple complexes. A key ingredient is a fact that seems not to have been noticed before: cohomology with respect to a product of ideals is the one of a subcomplex of the Čech complex computing cohomology with respect to the sum of the given ideals; this provides a much shorter complex to compute cohomology with respect to the product of ideals.

Abstract:We construct a K-theory version of Bhatt-Morrow-Scholze's Breuil-Kisin cohomology theory for $\sO_K$-linear idempotent-complete, small smooth proper stable infinity-categories, where $K$ is a discretely valued extension of $\Q_p$ with perfect residue field. As a corollary, under the assumption that $K(1)$-local K theory satisfies the Künneth formula for $\sO_K$-linear idempotent-complete, small smooth proper stable $\infty$-categories, we prove a comparison theorem between $K(1)$-local K theory of the generic fiber and topological cyclic periodic homology theory of the special fiber with $\Bcry$-coefficients, and $p$-adic Galois representations of $K(1)$-local K theory for $\sO_K$-linear idempotent-complete, small smooth proper stable $\infty$-categories are semi-stable. Abstract:For a motivic spectrum $E\in \mathcal{SH}(k)$, let $\Gamma(E)$ denote the global sections spectrum, where $E$ is viewed as a sheaf of spectra on $\mathrm{Sm}_k$. Voevodsky's slice filtration determines a spectral sequence converging to the homotopy groups of $\Gamma(E)$. In this paper, we introduce a spectral sequence converging instead to the mod 2 homology of $\Gamma(E)$ and study the case $E=BPGL\langle m\rangle$ for $k=\mathbb R$ in detail. We show that this spectral sequence contains the $\mathcal{A}_*$-comodule algebra $(\mathcal{A}//\mathcal{A}(m))^*$ as permanent cycles, and we determine a family of differentials interpolating between $(\mathcal{A}//\mathcal{A}(0))^*$ and $(\mathcal{A}//\mathcal{A}(m))^*$. Using this, we compute the spectral sequence completely for $m\le 3$. In the height 2 case, the Betti realization of $BPGL\langle 2\rangle$ is the $C_2$-spectrum $BP_{\mathbb R}\langle 2\rangle$, a form of which was shown by Hill and Meier to be an equivariant model for $\mathrm{tmf}_1(3)$. Our spectral sequence therefore gives a computation of the comodule algebra $H_*\mathrm{tmf}_0(3)$. As a consequence, we deduce a new ($2$-local) Wood-type splitting \[\mathrm{tmf}\wedge X\simeq \mathrm{tmf}_0(3)\] of $\mathrm{tmf}$-modules predicted by Davis and Mahowald, for $X$ a certain 10-cell complex.

Abstract:We categorify the inclusion–exclusion principle for partially ordered topological spaces and schemes to a filtration on the derived category of sheaves. As a consequence, we obtain functorial spectral sequences that generalize the two spectral sequences of a stratified space and certain Vassiliev-type spectral sequences; we also obtain Euler characteristic analogs in the Grothendieck ring of varieties. As an application, we give an algebro-geometric proof of Vakil and Wood's homological stability conjecture for the space of smooth hypersurface sections of a smooth projective variety. In characteristic zero this conjecture was previously established by Aumonier via topological methods.

Abstract:For each prime $p$, we define a $t$-structure on the category $\widehat{S^{0,0}}/\tau\text{-}\mathbf{Mod}_{harm}^b$ of harmonic $\mathbb{C}$-motivic left module spectra over $\widehat{S^{0,0}}/\tau$, whose MGL-homology has bounded Chow-Novikov degree, such that its heart is equivalent to the abelian category of $p$-completed $BP_*BP$-comodules that are concentrated in even degrees. We prove that $\widehat{S^{0,0}}/\tau\text{-}\mathbf{Mod}_{harm}^b$ is equivalent to $\mathcal{D}^b({{BP}_*{BP}\text{-}\mathbf{Comod}}^{ev})$ as stable $\infty$-categories equipped with $t$-structures. As an application, for each prime $p$, we prove that the motivic Adams spectral sequence for $\widehat{S^{0,0}}/\tau$, which converges to the motivic homotopy groups of $\widehat{S^{0,0}}/\tau$, is isomorphic to the algebraic Novikov spectral sequence, which converges to the classical Adams-Novikov $E_2$-page for the sphere spectrum $\widehat{S^0}$. This isomorphism of spectral sequences allows Isaksen and the second and third authors to compute the stable homotopy groups of spheres at least to the 90-stem, with ongoing computations into even higher dimensions.

Abstract: We establish everywhere convergence in a natural domain for Eisenstein series on a symmetrizable Kac--Moody group over a function field. Our method is different from that of the affine case which does not directly generalize. In comparison with the analogous result over the real numbers, everywhere convergence is achieved without any additional condition on the root system.

Abstract:We formulate and prove a Conner-Floyd isomorphism for the algebraic K-theory of arbitrary qcqs derived schemes. To that end, we study a stable $\infty$-category of non-$\mathbb A^1$-invariant motivic spectra, which turns out to be equivalent to the $\infty$-category of fundamental motivic spectra satisfying elementary blowup excision, previously introduced by the first and third authors. We prove that this $\infty$-category satisfies $\mathbb P^1$-homotopy invariance and weighted $\mathbb A^1$-homotopy invariance, which we use in place of $\mathbb A^1$-homotopy invariance to obtain analogues of several key results from $\mathbb A^1$-homotopy theory. These allow us in particular to define a universal oriented motivic $\mathbb E_\infty$-ring spectrum $\mathrm{MGL}$. We then prove that the algebraic K-theory of a qcqs derived scheme $X$ can be recovered from its $\mathrm{MGL}$-cohomology via a Conner-Floyd isomorphism \[\mathrm{MGL}^{**}(X)\otimes_{\mathrm L}\mathbb Z[\beta^{\pm 1}]\simeq \mathrm K^{**}(X),\] where $\mathrm L$ is the Lazard ring and $\mathrm K^{p,q}(X)=\mathrm K_{2q-p}(X)$. Finally, we prove a Snaith theorem for the periodized version of $\mathrm{MGL}$.

Abstract:Ben-Zvi--Sakellaridis--Venkatesh described a conjectural extension of the geometric Satake equivalence to spherical varieties, whose spectral decomposition is described by Hamiltonian varieties. The goal of this article is to study their conjecture, especially in the case of spherical varieties of relative rank 1, using tools from homotopy theory. Our discussion relates their conjecture to classical topics in homotopy theory such as the EHP sequence and Hopf fibrations, as well as more modern topics such as Hochschild (co)homology. We will also study an analogue of the derived geometric Satake equivalence and of the Ben-Zvi--Sakellaridis--Venkatesh conjecture with coefficients in connective complex K-theory. In this generalized setting, the dual group (a la Langlands, Gaitsgory--Nadler, Sakellaridis--Venkatesh, Knop--Schalke) remains unchanged, but the specific dual "representation" of the dual group changes. On the spectral/Langlands dual side, we expect that the appropriate replacement of Hamiltonian varieties are given by what we term "ku-Hamiltonian varieties"; this is a notion interpolating between Hamiltonian and quasi-Hamiltonian varieties (a la Alekseev--Malkin--Meinrenken). Finally, we suggest possible generalizations to more exotic cohomology theories such as complex cobordism.

A continuous $p$-adic action on the $K(2)$-local algebraic $K$-theory of $p$-adic complex $K$-theory

Abstract:Let $p$ be a prime, let $KU_p$ be $p$-complete complex $K$-theory, and let $\mathbb{Z}_p^\times$ denote the group of units in the $p$-adic integers. The $p$-adic Adams operations induce an action of the profinite group $\mathbb{Z}_p^\times$ on $KU_p$, and hence, on the algebraic $K$-theory spectrum $K(KU_p)$. For $p \geq 5$, we give an elementary construction of the continuous homotopy fixed point spectrum $(L_{K(2)}K(KU_p))^{hG}$, where $K(2)$ is the second Morava $K$-theory and $G$ is any closed subgroup of $\mathbb{Z}_p^\times$. Also, for each $G$, we show that there is an associated strongly convergent homotopy fixed point spectral sequence whose $E_2$-term is given by Jannsen's continuous group cohomology, with $E_2^{s,\ast} = 0$, for all $s > 2$. This work is related to a conjecture of Ausoni and Rognes.
