Abstract:We introduce the q,t ‐Catalan measures, a sequence of piece‐wise polynomial measures on R2 . These measures are defined in terms of suitable area, dinv, and bounce statistics on continuous families of paths in the plane, and have many combinatorial similarities to the q,t ‐Catalan numbers. Our main result realizes the q,t ‐Catalan measures as a limit of higher q,t ‐Catalan numbers Cn(m)(q,t) as m→∞ . We also give a geometric interpretation of the q,t ‐Catalan measures. They are the Duistermaat–Heckman measures of the punctual Hilbert schemes parametrizing subschemes of C2 supported at the origin.

Chain Decompositions of $q,t$-Catalan Numbers via Local Chains

Abstract:The $q,t$-Catalan number $\mathrm{Cat}_n(q,t)$ enumerates integer partitions contained in an $n\times n$ triangle by their dinv and external area statistics. The paper [LLL18 (Lee, Li, Loehr, SIAM J. Discrete Math. 32(2018))] proposed a new approach to understanding the symmetry property $\mathrm{Cat}_n(q,t)=\mathrm{Cat}_n(t,q)$ based on decomposing the set of all integer partitions into infinite chains. Each such global chain $\mathcal{C}_{\mu}$ has an opposite chain $\mathcal{C}_{\mu^*}$; these combine to give a new small slice of $\mathrm{Cat}_n(q,t)$ that is symmetric in $q$ and $t$. Here we advance the agenda of [LLL18] by developing a new general method for building the global chains $\mathcal{C}_{\mu}$ from smaller elements called local chains. We define a local opposite property for local chains that implies the needed opposite property of the global chains. This local property is much easier to verify in specific cases compared to the corresponding global property. We apply this machinery to construct all global chains for partitions with deficit at most $11$. This proves that for all $n$, the terms in $\mathrm{Cat}_n(q,t)$ of degree at least $\binom{n}{2}-11$ are symmetric in $q$ and $t$.

Paris358 (2020), 211–215] studied congruences of the form modulo the cyclotomic polynomial , provided that . Apparently, the case has been missing from the literature. Our primary purpose is to fill this gap. In addition, we discuss a certain fascinating link to Dirichlet character sum identities.

Polyhedral geometry of refined $q,t$-Catalan numbers

Abstract:We study a refinement of the $q,t$-Catalan numbers introduced by Xin and Zhang (2022, 2023) using tools from polyhedral geometry. These refined $q,t$-Catalan numbers depend on a vector of parameters $\vec{k}$ and the classical $q,t$-Catalan numbers are recovered when $\vec{k} = (1,\ldots,1)$. We interpret Xin and Zhang's generating functions by developing polyhedral cones arising from constraints on $\vec{k}$-Dyck paths and their associated area and bounce statistics. Through this polyhedral approach, we recover Xin and Zhang's theorem on $q,t$-symmetry of the refined $q,t$-Catalan numbers in the cases where $\vec{k} = (k_1,k_2,k_3)$ and $(k,k,k,k)$, give some extensions, including the case $\vec{k} = (k,k+m,k+m,k+m)$, and discuss relationships to other generalizations of the $q,t$-Catalan numbers.

Q-Difference Equations of Moment Integrals for Transformational Identities and Generating Functions

Abstract:In this paper, we show how to deduce several moment integrals by the method of q-difference equation. In addition, we obtain several generalizations of transformational identities by the technique of moment integrals. Meanwhile, we obtain some special cases of bilateral-unilateral series and the Rogers-Ramanujan identities as by-products. Moreover, we give two mixed generating functions for generalized Rogers-Szego polynomials by moment integrals and derive two transformational identities by symmetry. At last, a trilinear generating function for generalized Rogers-Szego polynomials is given by moment integrals.
Chain decompositions of q,t-Catalan numbers: tail extensions and flagpole partitions

Abstract:This article is part of an ongoing investigation of the combinatorics of $q,t$-Catalan numbers $\textrm{Cat}_n(q,t)$. We develop a structure theory for integer partitions based on the partition statistics dinv, deficit, and minimum triangle height. Our goal is to decompose the infinite set of partitions of deficit $k$ into a disjoint union of chains $\mathcal{C}_{\mu}$ indexed by partitions of size $k$. Among other structural properties, these chains can be paired to give refinements of the famous symmetry property $\textrm{Cat}_n(q,t)=\textrm{Cat}_n(t,q)$. Previously, we introduced a map that builds the tail part of each chain $\mathcal{C}_{\mu}$. Our first main contribution here is to extend this map to construct larger second-order tails for each chain. Second, we introduce new classes of partitions called flagpole partitions and generalized flagpole partitions. Third, we describe a recursive construction for building the chain $\mathcal{C}_{\mu}$ for a (generalized) flagpole partition $\mu$, assuming that the chains indexed by certain specific smaller partitions (depending on $\mu$) are already known. We also give some enumerative and asymptotic results for flagpole partitions and their generalized versions.

Abstract:One variant of the $q$-Catalan polynomials is defined in terms of Gaussian polynomials by $\mathcal{C}_k(q)=\genfrac{[}{]}{0pt}{}{2k}{k}_q-q\genfrac{[}{]}{0pt}{}{2k}{k+1}_q$. A Proof of the Symmetric Theta Conjecture when q = 0

Abstract:In <a class="link-https link-external" data-doi="10.1093/imrn/rnac258" href="https://doi.org/10.1093/imrn/rnac258" rel="external noopener nofollow">https://doi.org/10.1093/imrn/rnac258</a>, the authors conjecture a combinatorial formula for the expressions $\Xi e_\alpha \rvert_{t=1}$, known as Symmetric Theta Trees Conjecture, in terms of tiered trees with an inversion statistic. In <a class="link-https link-external" data-doi="10.1017/fms.2024.14" href="https://doi.org/10.1017/fms.2024.14" rel="external noopener nofollow">https://doi.org/10.1017/fms.2024.14</a>, the authors prove a combinatorial formula for the same symmetric function, in terms of doubly labelled Dyck paths with the area statistic. In this paper, we give an explicit bijection between the subsets of the two families of objects when the relevant statistic is equal to $0$, thus proving the Symmetric Theta Tree Conjecture when $q=0$.

Abstract:In this short paper, we generalize Ismail–Zhang's q-2D Hermite polynomials (Trans Am Math Soc 369:6779–6821 (2017), [14]) with an extra parameter and prove that if an analytic function in several variables satisfies a set of partial differential equations of second order, then it can be expanded in terms of the product of the generalized q-2D Hermite polynomials. In addition, we give some generating functions as applications.
Lattice Points and Rational $q$-Catalan Numbers

Abstract:For each pair of coprime integers $a$ and $b$ one defines the "rational $q$-Catalan number" $\mathrm{Cat}(a,b)_q=\bigl[\hskip-1.5pt \begin{smallmatrix}{a-1+b}\\{a-1}\end{smallmatrix}\hskip-1pt\bigr]_q/[a]_q$. It is known that this is a polynomial in $q$ with nonnegative integer coefficients, but this phenomenon is mysterious. Despite recent progress in the understanding of these polynomials and their two-variable $q,t$-analogues, we still lack a simple combinatorial interpretation of the coefficients. The current paper builds on a conjecture of Paul Johnson relating $q$-Catalan numbers to lattice points. The main idea of this approach is to fix $a$ and express everything in terms of the weight lattice of type $A_{a-1}$. For a given $a$ we construct a family of $(a-2)\phi(a)+1$ polynomials called "$q$-Catalan germs" and for each integer $b$ coprime to $a$ we express $\mathrm{Cat}(a,b)_q$ in terms of germs. We conjecture that the germs have nonnegative coefficients and we show that this nonnegativity conjecture is implied by a stronger conjecture about "ribbon partitions" of certain subposets of Young's lattice.

Positroids, knots, and $q,t$-Catalan numbers

Abstract:We relate the mixed Hodge structure on the cohomology of open positroid varieties (in particular, their Betti numbers over $\mathbb{C}$ and point counts over $\mathbb{F}_q$) to Khovanov--Rozansky homology of associated links. We deduce that the mixed Hodge polynomials of top-dimensional open positroid varieties are given by rational $q,t$-Catalan numbers. Via the curious Lefschetz property of cluster varieties, this implies the $q,t$-symmetry and unimodality properties of rational $q,t$-Catalan numbers. We show that the $q,t$-symmetry phenomenon is a manifestation of Koszul duality for category $\mathcal{O}$, and discuss relations with open Richardson varieties and extension groups of Verma modules.

Abstract:The recent interest in type B $q$-Stirling numbers of the second kind prompted us to give a type B analogue of a classical identity connecting the $q$-Stirling numbers of the second kind and Carlitz's major $q$-Eulerian numbers, which turns out to be a $q$-analogue of an identity due to Bagno, Biagioli and Garber. We provide a combinatorial proof of this identity and an algebraic proof of a more general identity for colored permutations. In addition, we prove some $q$-identities about the $q$-Stirling numbers of the second kind in types A, B and D.

Generalized Charges, Part II: Non-Invertible Symmetries and the Symmetry TFT

Abstract:Consider a d-dimensional quantum field theory (QFT) $\mathfrak{T}$, with a generalized symmetry $\mathcal{S}$, which may or may not be invertible. We study the action of $\mathcal{S}$ on generalized or $q$-charges, i.e. $q$-dimensional operators. The main result of this paper is that $q$-charges are characterized in terms of the topological defects of the Symmetry Topological Field Theory (SymTFT) of $\mathcal{S}$, also known as the ``Sandwich Construction''. The SymTFT is a $(d+1)$-dimensional topological field theory, which encodes the symmetry $\mathcal{S}$ and the physical theory in terms of its boundary conditions. Our proposal applies quite generally to any finite symmetry $\mathcal{S}$, including non-invertible, categorical symmetries. Mathematically, the topological defects of the SymTFT form the Drinfeld Center of the symmetry category $\mathcal{S}$. Applied to invertible symmetries, we recover the result of Part I of this series of papers. After providing general arguments for the identification of $q$-charges with the topological defects of the SymTFT, we develop this program in detail for QFTs in 2d (for general fusion category symmetries) and 3d (for fusion 2-category symmetries).

Macdonald Duality and the proof of the Quantum Q-system conjecture

Abstract:The $SL(2,\mathbb Z)$-symmetry of Cherednik's spherical double affine Hecke algebras in Macdonald theory includes a distinguished generator which acts as a discrete time evolution of Macdonald operators, which can also be interpreted as a torus Dehn twist in type $A$. We prove for all twisted and untwisted affine algebras of type $ABCD$ that the time-evolved $q$-difference Macdonald operators, in the $t\to\infty$ $q$-Whittaker limit, form a representation of the associated discrete integrable quantum Q-systems, which are obtained, in all but one case, via the canonical quantization of suitable cluster algebras. The proof relies strongly on the duality property of Macdonald and Koornwinder polynomials, which allows, in the $q$-Whittaker limit, for a unified description of the quantum Q-system variables and the conserved quantities as limits of the time-evolved Macdonald operators and the Pieri operators, respectively. The latter are identified with relativistic $q$-difference Toda Hamiltonians. A crucial ingredient in the proof is the use of the "Fourier transformed" picture, in which we compute time-translation operators and prove that they commute with the Pieri operators or Hamiltonians. We also discuss the universal solutions of Koornwinder-Macdonald eigenvalue and Pieri equations, for which we prove a duality relation, which simplifies the proofs further.

Emergent family of Tsallis entropies from the $q$-deformed combinatorics

Abstract:We revisit the derivation of a formula for the $q$-generalised multinomial coefficient rooted in the $q$-deformed algebra, a foundational framework in the study of nonextensive statistics. Previous approximate expressions in the literature diverge as $q$ approaches 2 (or 0, depending on convention). In contrast, our derived formula provides an exact, smooth function for all real values of $q$, expressed as an infinite series expansion involving Tsallis entropies with sequential entropic indices, coupled with Bernoulli numbers. This formulation is achieved through the analytic continuation of the Riemann zeta function, stemming from the $q$-deformed factorials. Our formula thus offers a distinctive characterisation of Tsallis entropy within the $q$-deformed combinatorics. Throughout this exploration, we also highlight a symmetry within the $q$-deformed theory that links different values of the entropic parameter. Furthermore, we discuss extending our results to encompass more general, affinity-sensitive cases, building on the previously established framework of affinity-based extended entropy.
