Biomass Conversion and Biorefinery
Abstract:AbstractAs aquaculture waste grows, turning it into biofuels is a solution to environmental problems. One possible way to treat them is by heating and pyrolysis them under a normal atmosphere, such as CO2 and N2. The flue gas (FG) contains high concentration CO2, O2 which can participate in gasification, especially a lot of waste heat which can be reused to gasification. So the use of FG as the gasification agent can increase the efficiency of the energy utilization. The cattle manure was chosen to be tested in the non-isothermal (20, 50, 80 °C/min) gasification process under three atmospheres, respectively, and the thermogravimetric analysis coupled with Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (TG-FTIR) was adopted to study the feasibility of the FG atmosphere by comparing with other atmosphere. The gasification process of cattle manure was determined to occur in four stages, with the major decomposition stage in the range of 170–360 °C. The thermodynamic parameters and kinetics were investigated by using iso-conversional models of Flynn–Wall–Ozawa method. The theoretical calculations show that the average activation energy under FG atmosphere (156.67 kJ/mol) is lower than that under N2 and CO2 atmospheres (208.09 kJ/mol and 214.29 kJ/mol) with the highest R2 = 0.929. The TG-FTIR results showed that under FG atmosphere contain more combustible components, such as CO, CH4, phenols, aldehydes, aromatic, and alkane. This research will provide theoretical basis for high-value utilization of biomass and new ideas for selective pyrolysis of biomass.
