Abstract:Abstract A brand new impact hammer–Axial & Torsional impact hammer (producing high-frequency axial and torsional impact forces simultaneously)–has been developed to improve the penetration rates and eliminate stick-slip vibrations in deep and ultra-deep wells. This paper presents its rock-breaking mechanism and evaluates its field application effects. Based on the finite element method, a numerical model was first proposed to investigate the rock-breaking processes of a single PDC tooth under axial, torsional and axial & torsional impact forces respectively. The simulation results show that the axial & torsional impact drilling method can break rock with least mechanical specific energy and increase the rate of penetration (ROP) significantly. The mechanism is that the axial component of the compound impact force can increase the penetration depth of PDC teeth into rock and enlarge the rock-breaking volume, and that the torsional component facilitates to reduce stick-slip vibrations and prohibit premature failures of bits. An Axial & Torsional impact hammer was then developed according to the principle of modulating hydraulic pulses. The hammer has been used in 20 deep and ultra-deep wells in western China, achieving 105.1%~163.4% higher ROP compared with the average ROP in the same block. Besides, the drilling process became more stable and the lives of PDC bits were greatly increased. This paper presents a comprehensive comparison of the penetration rate, torque fluctuation, bit wearing degrees and cuttings shape between this impact tool and other tools used in offset wells. Finally, the structure of the new hammer is simple and reliable, and it is also convenient to maintain.
Advanced 4D Drilling Dynamics Model Simulates Downhole Vibration and Helps to Optimize in Preventing Drill String Failure

Abstract:Downhole vibration, such as backward or chaotic whirling, is one of the primary causes for drill string failure during drilling operation. Understanding drilling dynamics is crucial for determining the mechanism of vibration and fatigue accumulation so as to mitigate risk of drill string failure. Drilling dynamics or vibration data can either be obtained from real-time measurement or simulation based on dynamics model, which plays a crucial role for drilling optimization in pre-drill planning phase. An advanced 4D drilling dynamics model, which considers the interaction between drill bit and formation, impact and friction between drill string and wellbore, constraints exerted on drill string and drill bit, is proposed to simulate the distribution and variation of 3D displacement, velocity, acceleration as well as the stress state of entire drill string within specified time period. This time domain model allows exploration of the full range of dynamics response under different drilling scenarios, which helps to optimize the performance and reliability of BHA as well as WOB/RPM selection. Moreover, drill string fatigue life prediction can also be achieved by combing simulated stress state and fatigue accumulation theory. Simulation shows that BHA with smaller- sized drill collar or fewer stabilizers are more susceptible to backward and even chaotic whirling while drilling. Also, inappropriate WOB/RPM combinations such as low WOB with high RPM could also cause the onset of severe lateral vibration. High frequency bending stress, mainly concentrated on BHA and caused by lateral vibration, is the main reason for rapid fatigue accumulation and continuous severe vibration could even result in drill string fatigue failure within hours. These findings helped to justify the 5 consecutive BHA failure and 1 washout while drilling the 171/2" wellbore with 7621 ft length of an ultra-deep well. Simulation also showed that downhole lateral vibration severity was significantly reduced after optimizing drill bit design, adopting BHA with larger stiffness and optimizing drilling parameters, which guaranteed the successful drilling of a new 171/2" wellbore with 4659 ft length of another offset well without downhole accident. This 4D drilling dynamics model could be used to conduct comparative analysis of dynamics responses based on specific criteria to identify the optimum BHA design and drilling parameters, which shows great potential in drill string fatigue failure prevention and drilling optimization.

An innovative measurement-while-drilling method applied in construction of underground stress relief hole with more vibration events

Abstract:A measurement-while-drilling (MWD) method has been proposed in our previous study, which can get the drilling depth, stress distribution of conventional stress relief hole. In this study, a drilling hole with more vibration events is selected as the study case; results show that a large number of vibration events cover up the amplitude intermissions during non-drilling, and the impact of vibration events must be removed firstly in order to continue to apply the original innovative MWD method. More importantly, the number of vibration events produced at different drilling depths and their basic characteristics are obtained, including waveform state, amplitude, dominant frequency, occurrence location, etc. The study expands the application scope of previous MWD method, and successfully monitored vibration events to provide support for explaining the relationship between the number of vibration events and stress distribution, the mechanism of rock mass fracture, and stress relief drilling.

Measurement and simulation of nonlinear drillstring stick–slip and whirling vibrations

Abstract:<p>When drilling ultra-deep wells with polycrystalline diamond compact (PDC) bits, the drillstring suffered from severe vibrations that were responsible for the premature failure of drillstring components and the inefficient drilling process. In this paper, a field experiment was conducted in an ultra-deep well to measure the downhole tri-axial accelerations of the drillstring. The analyses of the acceleration data in the time and frequency domains show that the drillstring is subjected mainly to violent stick–slip and whirling vibrations. Comparisons between two adjacent sets of tri-axial acceleration data suggest that the occurrence of stick–slip oscillations intensifies the downhole drillstring whirling vibrations. To numerically study the measured stick–slip and whirling vibrations, a fully coupled finite element model for the axial, torsional and lateral vibrations of the drillstring is developed. The bit-rock interaction, which is responsible for the stick–slip oscillations, is modelled by a non-regularized dry friction law, the key parameters of which are fitted by the experimental results. Hertzian contact theory is used to model the nonlinear contacts between the drillstring and the wellbore wall. The downhole angular velocity fluctuations that are due to the stick–slip oscillations are also considered, and they lead to the coupling between the stick–slip and the whirling vibrations. The satisfactory agreement between the numerical and experimental results supports the fidelity of the proposed finite element model. The experimentally observed intensifying effects of the stick–slip oscillations on the whirling vibrations are verified via comparisons between simulation results with and without consideration of the coupling effects. On this basis, parametric studies are conducted to analyze the influence of the drilling parameters on the stick–slip oscillations and the whirling behaviors.</p>

Abstract:Drill-string axial vibration at the surface technology is proposed to reduce the friction between the drill-string and the borehole wall, and to improve load transfer efficiency, the rate of penetration (ROP), and the extended-reach limit of a horizontal well. An analytical framework utilizing the "soft-string" model is constructed. The results obtained from numerical simulations reveal that during the slide drilling operation, the drill-string experiences an axial stick–slip motion, and the weight on bit (WOB) undergoes periodic oscillations. The conventional calibration method of the WOB in the weight indicator gauge is not applicable when the ROP is low. After applying axial vibration on the drill-string at the surface, the WOB increases and becomes smooth because of a release of friction. The amplitude and frequency of the exciting force are the main factors affecting surface vibration effectiveness. There is an optimal frequency for a given case (10 Hz in this paper). This means that the conventional manual pick-up and slack-off by drillers with a high amplitude and a low frequency has little effect on friction reduction. In addition, the conventional method can bring in high risk because of its high root mean square (RMS) acceleration. Safety evaluation results indicate that the drill-string is in a safe state under most of the exciting parameters. The results verify the feasibility and advantages of the proposed technology, and lay a solid theoretical foundation for its application in real drilling applications.

New Approach in Real-Time Bit Wear Prediction

Abstract:Abstract Challenging wells have been drilled recently utilizing advanced real time tools and techniques to optimize drilling operation while reducing risk and increasing safety. Moreover, the real time tools and techniques help identify upcoming drilling problems using real time data before they occur. Real time drilling analysis begins when real time drilling data are available and transmitted to the office locations via a remote server. The data can then be interpreted and analyzed by the engineers implementing various models for appropriate decision making. Lately, real time bit wear estimation has been a challenge in drilling a well to reach to the highest drilling performance and avoid bringing serious problems to the bit. It has been shown that the combination of Mechanical Specific Energy (MSE) and drilling rate models can be used for real time bit wear estimation while drilling. As MSE does not take the bit wear effect into account while drilling rate or rate of penetration (ROP) models do, their difference can be used to monitor and identify bit wear status while bit is in the hole. This paper demonstrates a new form of a developed model to predict bit wear status while drilling which is built by combining rock energy (MSE) model with a newly developed drilling rate model for roller cone bits as well as a previously developed model for PDC bits. Rock confined compressive strength (CCS) is obtained from ROP models and used in conjunction with MSE values to predict bit wear trend. Several bit run sections from offset wells in Alberta, Canada were tested utilizing the model and final results are compared with the reported bit wear outs from the field. Encouraging results show that this methodology can be applied to detect changes in drilling efficiency by monitoring bit wear trend in real time while drilling.

Abstract:Large amplitude and high frequency WOB (weight on bit) fluctuation will lead to problems such as low rock breaking efficiency, short service life and slow drilling speed. This problem is particularly prominent in hard and difficult to drill formation and multi interlayer formation. The development of drilling string damping and pressurization device provides an idea for the utilization of vibration energy. Theoretically, the installation of downhole drill string absorption & hydraulic supercharging device can ensure the smooth operation of the bit. However, up to now, the influence of the characteristic parameters and application methods of downhole drill string absorption & hydraulic supercharging device on the WOB fluctuation at the bit is not clear. Based on the drill string dynamics experimental device, the influence of downhole drill string absorption & hydraulic supercharging device on WOB fluctuation at the bit is tested and analyzed. The results show that whether the downhole drill string absorption & hydraulic supercharging device can stabilize the bit WOB is related to its elastic stiffness, installation position, bit speed and WOB; When the WOB remains unchanged, the elastic stiffness of the elastic element of the downhole drill string absorption & hydraulic supercharging device increases, and the fluctuation range of the WOB at the bit increases; Increasing the rotating speed and increasing the WOB is conducive to controlling the WOB fluctuation of the bit. Under the condition of high rotating speed, shortening the distance between the downhole drill string absorption & hydraulic supercharging device and the bit is conducive to restraining the WOB fluctuation. The research results provide a reference for the design, development and application of damping elements of drilling string damping and pressurization device.

Abstract:The object of research is the drill string bottom structure using the correcting devices of drilling modes to control the dynamics of the drill string. The work is aimed at the study of longitudinal, torsional and transverse oscillations when adjusting the axial load on the bit by using a drilling shock absorber with a two-link characteristic. A dynamic model of the drill string during the drilling process is presented, which is a concentrated-continuous nonlinear system that interacts with the ball bit and the downhole engine as a source of energy. It is shown that elastic oscillations of all types affect the interaction of the bit with the outcrop rock. In order to evaluate drilling performance, it is necessary to take into account not only longitudinal, torsional and transverse oscillations, but also parametric oscillations, which are associated with the deformation of the weighted drill pipe under axial loads and during its rotation in the process of deepening the hole. It was found that transverse vibrations of weighted drill pipes, as a flexible element, during the drilling process are, as a rule, parametric in nature. They lead to the appearance of additional stresses in the elements of the column and, as a result, to the acceleration of their destruction and accelerated wear of the bit arms and rolling bearings. It is proved that in the future, for the development of dynamic models, it is necessary to take into account their hydrodynamics and the type, design and parameters of the applied punching elements. The obtained research results can be applied in practice in the process of designing the structure of the drill string bottom structure (DSBS) using correcting devices of drilling modes to control the dynamics of the drill string, by using a drilling shock absorber with a two-link characteristic in order to correct the axial load on the bit.

Abstract:Abstract Domestic and foreign oil companies have been constantly increasing the research and development investment in underground shock absorber, to reduce the vibration and shock of drilling tool under hard rock drilling environments, enhance the rate of penetration and decrease drilling cost under the premise of ensuring the normal life of drill string components and stable bit weight. Based on this, this paper has focused on the working principal of magneto-rheological fluid (MRF) semi-active damper, the composition of MRF and its internal parameters’ impact on the damping characteristics, combining with the status quo at home and abroad of down-hole vibration technology. Meanwhile, the test analysis of semi-active damping technology was conducted. And the results showed that semi-active vibration technology had greatly weakened the vibration level while improved the rate of penetration, guaranteed the service life of bit and other drill-string components, reduced additional tripping times and effectively solved the problems of bit weight instability and low penetration rate etc., caused by drill vibration. Therefore, in the current situation of worldwide oil price downturn, it has become increasingly prominent to reduce cost and increase efficiency, and it’s particularly necessary to research on the shock absorbers of down-hole drilling tools in China.

Abstract:Monitoring while drilling (MWD) is a crucial task in mining operations. Accurately measuring drill and rock-related operating parameters can significantly reduce the cost of drilling operations. This study explores the potential of monitoring drilling specific energy (SE) and optimizing drilling operations by processing vibroacoustic signals generated while drilling. For this purpose, 30 samples of different rocks, are used for drilling tests. During the drilling process, the acoustic and vibration signals are recorded and analyzed in the time, frequency, and time-frequency domains., and parameters related to the resulting spectra are extracted. After obtaining the vibroacoustic parameters for drilling, the relationship between them and the drilling SE was investigated. There is evidence that the progression of SE contributes to the magnitude of rock drilling vibroacoustic features, which could be employed to indicate energy conditions during drilling. Results obtained in this study have the potential to be used as the basis for an industrial monitoring system that can detect excessive energy consumption and advise the user of the end of the bit's useful life. This method can be an intelligent technique for measuring the behavior of real-time drilling operations based on the SE simply by installing vibroacoustic sensors on the drilling machines.
Field Test of the Drill-Bit Vibration Signal Detection Using Portable Seismometers

Abstract:It is a important way to explore the undrilled formations by recording the drill-bit vibration signal while drilling,namely SWD.SWD is helpful to eliminate the geological uncertainty and potential hazard.By analyzing the signal characteristic of the drill-bit vibration and performance difference of traditional multi-channel geophones instrument and the portable digital seismometers,we proposed a new way to detect the seismic signal while drilling.In it the advanced portable seismometers are used as transducers in a array.Seismometers with high sensitivity will record the vibration signal continuously while drilling.The preliminary field experiment shows this SWD scenario is feasible.The signal to noise ratio(S/N) obtained by seismometers is higher than geophones.This new approach can be operated easily by drilling engineers and opens a new way to the SWD technique.

Abstract:The stick–slip vibration of a drill bit in oil and gas drilling causes significant disturbances to the formation, severely impacting the drilling quality. The dual drill bit (DB) torque self-balancing drilling technology has superior drill bit stability, obtained by balancing the torques of the inner and outer bits (IB and OB). However, research on the DB working process is still in the initial stages. To analyze the vibration reduction in the DB from the perspective of the rock-breaking mechanism, this study established a dynamic rock-breaking finite element model of the DB through theoretical calculations and conducted a numerical simulation comparison and drilling experiment comparison of the rock-breaking process between the DB and conventional drill bit (CB). The differences in the reactive torque between the DB and CB were compared. Subsequently, the drilling process was simulated using the two drilling methods, including the rock-breaking process, core and wellbore disturbance, and bit motion. The results indicate that DB drilling can reduce the torque vibration of the rock on the drill bit by 69.7%, thus decreasing the damage to the formation. In addition, DB can form a shear-breaking effect on the rock at the junction of IB and OB, which improves the rock-breaking efficiency by 13.8%. The results of this work will help reveal the low stick–slip vibration mechanism of the DB self-balancing drilling technique, which can provide new ideas for the study of drilling stability.

Abstract:Abstract A practical bit condition monitoring system is a necessary component of autonomous drilling. Tricone bits are widely used in blasthole drilling in mining. Bits experience a variety of wear mechanisms during the operation and rolling element failure is the dominant catastrophic failure mode of tricone bits. Bit lifetime and performance significantly vary based on the working condition and the critical components of the bit i.e. rolling elements, are invisible to the direct condition monitoring systems. At McGill University, extensive research work is conducted to develop an indirect bit condition monitoring and failure prediction approach relying on the vibration signals and the technology is currently patent pending. This article presents real-world experimental evidence to show the unreliability of conservative bit changing strategy based on the bit operation life or drop in the rate of penetration (ROP) and ineffectiveness of direct wear monitoring techniques to cover the dominant failure mode. Objective To demonstrate the unreliability of tricone bit replacement relying on bit operation life or ROP measurement and ineffectiveness of vision-based monitoring techniques for autonomous drilling.
Detecting downhole vibrations through drilling horizontal sections: machine learning study

Abstract:During the drilling operations and because of the harsh downhole drilling environment, the drill string suffered from downhole vibrations that affect the drilling operation and equipment. This problem is greatly affecting the downhole tools (wear and tear), hole problems (wash-out), mechanical energy loss, and ineffective drilling performance. Extra non-productive time to address these complications during the operation, and hence, extra cost. Detecting the drillstring vibrations during drilling through the downhole sensors is costly due to the extra service and downhole sensors. Currently, the new-technology-based solutions are providing huge capabilities to deal intelligently with the data, and machine learning applications provide high computational competencies to learn and correlate the parameters for technical complex problems. This research presented a successful case study for developing machine learning models through a comprehensive methodology process for vibration detection using surface rig data through data collection, preprocessing, analytics, training and optimizing the models' parameters, and evaluating the performance to have the best prediction results. Evaluating the models' performance showed that obtained predictions have a great match with actual measurements for the different stages of training, testing, and even during models' validation with unseen well data. Real-field horizontal drilling data was utilized to feed and train the models through different tools named radial basis function (RBF), support vector machines (SVMs), adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS), and functional networks (FN) to auto-detect the three types of downhole vibrations (axial, torsional, and lateral). The study results showed a high correlation coefficient (higher than 0.9) and technically accepted average absolute percentage error (below 7.5%) between actual readings and predictions of the developed ML models. The study outcomes will add to the automation process of drilling operations to avoid many tools failure by comparing predicted vibrations versus downhole tools limits such as red zone and continuing drilling without interruption to the well total depth especially while drilling horizontal sections.

Abstract:A simple and reliable method for monitoring the rock properties in drilling is recognized as a global challenge, especially for cluster and infill development well drilling in oil and gas production. To improve the existing limitations in the detection of formation lithology in drilling systems, an acoustic sensor approach for rock disintegration in the drilling using a polycrystalline diamond compact (PDC) drill bit is developed and evaluated. In this paper, we report the application of a special acoustic sensor device to qualitatively survey rock disintegration by rotary drilling. In this work, an acoustic focusing component is designed to assist a condenser microphone in detecting signals emerging in the process of drilling as an integrating information resource. A time-frequency with zoom fast-Fourier-transform analysis method is presented to recognize the acoustic signal features in breaking different rocks. Additionally, principal component analysis and Support Vector Machine method are used to check the qualitative analysis results for the monitored rock information. An experimental investigation considered four types of rock broken by a PDC drill bit with drilling weights ranging from 5 to 12.5 kN and drilling rates ranging from 64 to 128 r/min. To verify the reliability and accuracy of our acoustic rock detection method, two sensors installed in the orthogonal direction are examined. Furthermore, the coherent analysis was used to reveal the correlation of the output auto-correlation spectrum for each measurement. The results show that there is a good average percentage of lithology calculated by the time-frequency analysis results between the acoustic signal features and different types of rock. Accordingly, the acoustic sensor approach can help enhance the detection of rock properties in drilling systems, laying the foundation for quantitative lithology identification in more complex drilling.

Abstract:Rock-breaking efficiency is not so satisfied using the conventional PDC bit, especially in the hard, soft–hard interbedded, and strong abrasive formations in ultra-deep wells. A method is proposed to make full use of stress-releasing effect at bottomhole, thereby improving the rock-breaking efficiency, and a supporting weight-on-bit (WOB) self-adjusting dual-diameter PDC bit (WSDB) has been invented. The WSDB can dynamically adjust the depth-of-cut control characteristics, which could improve the rate of penetration (ROP) while mitigating the stick–slip vibration caused by the rapid change of depth of cut. The stress field of the rock at the bottomhole is calculated with a numerical method, and the working mechanism of the bit is analyzed. The application effect of the WSDB is evaluated through laboratory tests preliminarily. The results show that the stress concentration area on the shoulder of the reaming bit is decreased obviously and a larger stress unloading area emerges in the intersection between reaming and pilot bit. Thus, mechanical specific energy (MSE) can be greatly reduced when the reaming bit drills into this section. Indoor tests show that the maximum ROP of WSDB can be reached up to 70% higher compared to the conventional PDC bit, and higher ROP could be obtained with a relatively lower bit torque. With drilling parameters greater than the critical revolution and WOB, the reduction in MSE can be reached up to 36% during the rock-breaking process. Making further efforts into the optimization of bit structure to reduce the vibration intensity is expected to achieve more improved bit performance.

Abstract:Background . Drilling vibrations may cause damage to the bit and early failure of downhole instruments. The main approach to solving this problem consists in measuring downhole vibrations while drilling by adding sensors near the bit in to the bottom hole assembly (BHA). When drilling vibrations are registered, measures are taken to avoid their reaching the critical values. If necessary the drilling stoops and the section is worked out to avoid accidents due to the high critical values. Not always drilling companies add such sensors to the BHA due to high price of the equipment. Constant problems with vibrations while drilling, require the creation of domestic low-cost autonomous equipment for measuring downhole vibrations and transmitting respective signals to the surface. Aim . To develop domestic low-cost autonomous downhole vibration measuring equipment. Materials and methods. Analysis of the experimental studies on drilling vibrations. Development technical solution such as domestic low-cost autonomous equipment for measuring downhole vibrations. Results . The problem of drilling vibrations can be controlled by downhole measuring equipment located in the vicinity of the bit. The device under development is presented in the article. Conclusion . In order to achieve maximum economic efficiency and avoid the costs of eliminating the consequences of vibrations, domestic low-cost autonomous downhole vibration measuring equipment should be developed to register torsional and longitudinal vibrations.
Case Study of Self-Adjusting PDC Bit Technology Reducing Drilling Dynamics, Improving Performance and Avoids NPT in the Western Desert of Egypt

Abstract:Abstract The 12 1⁄4" section in the western desert, Bapetco concision is challenging to be drilled as of the highly interbedded carbonate and shale formations, which are known to exhibit high levels of vibrations (torsional and lateral) associated with high drilling torque. Such high drilling torque lead-to increasing the Mechanical Specific Energy (MSE), reduction in Rate Of Penetration (ROP) and early dull for used bits. While in some cases it can even lead to twist-off incidents and major Non- Productive Time (NPT) events. Customer NPT can cost up to $ 450k in case of sidetracking the well. In case the Bottom Hole Assembly (BHA) stands the vibration level, the parameters would have been controlled losing ROP which resulting in lost time that cost at least $ 35K. The solution of adjusting the depth of cut downhole (Self-Adjusting) which have been newly introduced to the market targeting to decrease downhole vibrations, specially torsional vibrations and allow smoother transition between lithologies with different compressive strength and help in a smooth transition between the different layers while optimizing the depth of cut control When the self-adjusting feature engages with rock for steady state drilling, the feature gradually retracts, controlling DOC to find the optimal exposure of the element for the current drilling parameters and formations. As dynamic instabilities occur, the self-adjusting feature reacts at fast time scales to mitigate the event. This should result in optimizing the bit response to deliver the best performance real time, decreasing the torsional vibration, NPT & MSE. This will lead to increase the drilling efficiency. The 12 1⁄4" PDC bit with the self-adjusting was tested with one Shell/Bapetco in the western desert wells, resulting in decreasing the vibration levels, decreasing the MSE hence increase the ROP 57% compared to average of the field which resulted in significant reduction to the drilling cost compared to the offset wells while achieving 35K of savings compared to the best offset Below will present how the latest self-adjusting PDC technology had a significant impact on drilling time and cost savings by mitigating drilling dysfunctions that could result in unplanned trips and drilling inefficiencies if not addressed in a timely manner

Abstract:Drill-string vibrations occur frequently during drilling. Stick–slip vibration, a common form of vibration, reduces the rate of penetration and leads to bit wear and drill-string failure. The positive-displacement motor (PDM), as an important downhole dynamic drilling tool, is increasingly widely used in the field of oil and gas drilling, using hydraulic energy to output torque and speed. Field data have demonstrated that the combined drilling method of a PDM and polycrystalline diamond compact (PDC) bits can effectively alleviate stick–slip vibration; however, the effect is uneven and no research has yet been conducted on the mechanism by which PDM suppresses stick–slip vibration. In this study, the research status of tools for suppressing downhole vibrations is reviewed. A dynamic model of a multi-degree-of-freedom drill-string system with PDM is established, and the structural parameters in the model are calculated. The Runge–Kutta method is used to solve the model, and the influence of the PDM on stick–slip vibration is analyzed. Research has indicated that the output parameters of the PDM have a positive role in suppressing stick–slip vibrations, and that there is a critical value for eliminating these vibrations. The critical value is influenced by the drilling and output parameters of the PDM: the greater weight on the bit (WOB) will lead to a higher critical value; the greater the output parameter of the PDM, the lower the critical value. In addition, the output parameters of the PDM significantly change the correlation between the response parameters of the bit, which is the key to eliminate stick–slip vibration.

Abstract:The speed of drilling has a great relationship with the rock breaking efficiency of the bit. Based on the above background, the purpose of this article is to predict the position of shallow bit based on the vibration signal monitoring of bit broken rock. In this article, first, the mechanical research of drill string is carried out; the basic changes of the main mechanical parameters such as the axial force, torque, and bending moment of drill string are clarified; and the dynamic equilibrium equation theory of drill string system is analyzed. According to the similarity criterion, the corresponding relationship between drilling process parameters and laboratory test conditions is determined. Then, the position monitoring test system of the vibration bit is established. The acoustic emission signal and the drilling force signal of the different positions of the bit in the process of vibration rock breaking are collected synchronously by the acoustic emission sensor and the piezoelectric force sensor. Then, the denoised acoustic emission signal and drilling force signal are analyzed and processed. The mean value, variance, and mean square value of the signal are calculated in the time domain. The power spectrum of the signal is analyzed in the frequency domain. The signal is decomposed by wavelet in the time and frequency domains, and the wavelet energy coefficients of each frequency band are extracted. Through the wavelet energy coefficient calculated by the model, combined with the mean, variance, and mean square error of time-domain signal, the position of shallow buried bit can be analyzed and predicted. Finally, by fitting the results of indoor experiment and simulation experiment, it can be seen that the stress–strain curve of rock failure is basically the same, and the error is about 3.5%, which verifies the accuracy of the model.
