Abstract:In paddy fields, unwanted crops have a detrimental effect on rice quality and paddy growth, so it is critical to remove them quickly to improve plant productivity. Manual removal takes a lot of time, particularly in regions with extensive paddy production like India. The application of thermal imaging to crop classification is investigated in this work based on the large inter-plant variations in leaf size and height. This project intends to monitor crop health and detect weeds more effectively by utilizing thermal imaging in conjunction with hyper-parameter optimized Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) algorithms and the Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA–LSTM). Paddy leaves prefer a temperature range of 21 to 26 °C, whereas other crops have varying temperature requirements, enabling precise crop identification. A paddy crop classification accuracy of about 95.7% is demonstrated by experimental findings employing a huge dataset of thermal pictures from different paddy fields, outperforming conventional methods. As a viable option for large-scale paddy cultivation management, the study indicates that combining thermal imaging with cutting-edge deep learning algorithms greatly improves the efficiency and accuracy of crop classification and weed detection.
