Abstract:We present our study of CP violation in two-body weak decays of antitriplet charmed baryons. In the standard model, the $\Delta c =1$ quark level interactions inducing CP violation for the relevant decays can be grouped into two types, one proportional to the CKM matrix elements $\lambda_d= V_{ud}V^*_{cd}$ and another $\lambda_b = V_{us}V^*_{cs}$. Recent studies have shown that with $SU(3)_F$ flavor symmetry, the decay amplitudes, including their strong phases, can be determined by data if contributions from $\lambda_b$ are neglected. However, the $\lambda_b$ terms must be retained to create interferences that induce CP violation. Some of them can be recovered in the framework of $SU(3)_F$ flavor symmetry, and the CP-violating rate asymmetry $A_{CP}$ is predicted to be of the order of ${\cal O}(10^{-4})$. We find that final state re-scattering effects, which link hadronic matrix elements proportional to $\lambda_d$ and $\lambda_b$, can help recover the missing terms. The re-scattering effects can enhance CP violation by an order of magnitude, with $A_{CP} (\Xi_c^0 \to p K^-) - A_{CP} (\Xi_c^0 \to \Sigma^+ \pi^-)$ being as large as $1.87 \times 10^{-3}$. This makes it promising to observe CP violation for the first time in baryon decays.

Abstract:The violation of the Charge-Parity (CP) symmetry is a phenomenon described by the Standard Model (SM), however, its predictions for this violation are not enough to explain the matter-antimatter asymmetry in the visible universe. Experimentally, CP violation in hadronic decays had already been observed in various circumstances before 2019, when the LHCb experiment at CERN first published results reporting CPV in D-meson decays [<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1903.08726v2" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1903.08726v2">arXiv:1903.08726v2</a>] ($D^0 \to K^- K^+$ and $D^0 \to \pi^- \pi^+$). In this work, a study of CP violation is carried out analysing the phenomenology of charm decays. The study of such topic is guided by the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix and the process of flavour changing decays caused by the weak interaction (focusing on charm decays). The symmetries attributed to physical conservation laws were recognized, allowing for the possibilities of CP violation predicted by the SM to be examined more closely. Such theoretical studies are then compared to the results obtained by the LHCb Collaboration. Furthermore, a comparison between CPV in charm decays and in neutrino oscillations is made, analysing the CP violating phase in both the CKM and the Pontecorvo-Maki-Nakagawa-Sakata (PMNS) matrices.

Observable CP-violation in charmed baryons decays with SU(3) symmetry analysis

Abstract:CP violation in baryon decays has recently garnered significant attention. Traditionally, CP violation in charmed baryon decays is predicted to be at the order of $O(10^{-4})$. Utilizing recent measurements from BESIII, Belle and Belle~II experiments, we conduct a comprehensive global analysis to estimate the contribution of topological diagrams in these processes. Our study reveals that topological diagrams alone cannot fully account for the experimental data. By incorporating new effects that are not included in traditional topological diagrams and exploring the possible source of the new effect, our analysis reveals the potential for significant CP violation in $\Lambda_c^+\to n \pi^+$ and $\Xi_c^+\to \Xi^0 K^+$. This suggests a promising opportunity to observe CP violation for the first time in charmed baryon decays.

Abstract:The CP violating effects in partial - decay - rate asymmetries of the Bd 0 and Bs 0 systems are reestimated with the method of amplitude ratio. We concentrate on those hadronic final states which are CP eigenstates. We find that for testing CP violations, except the well known Bd 0 �� Ks, the best decay is Bd 0 �� D+D-, which needs, for 3�� signature, 2.2 �� 107 bb? pairs.

Abstract:We propose a new kind of CP violation effect -- the double-mixing CP asymmetry -- in a type of cascade decays that involves at least two mixing neutral mesons in the decay chain. It is induced by the interference between different oscillation paths of the neutral mesons in the decay process. The double-mixing CP asymmetry is of critical importance for phenomenology, providing opportunities for clean determination of CKM phase angles free of uncertainties induced by the strong dynamics. To illustrate this point, we perform a phenomenological analysis on two examples: $B^0_s \to \rho^0 K \to \rho^0 (\pi^-\ell^+{\nu}_\ell)$ and $B^0 \to D^0 {K} \to D^0 (\pi^+\ell^-\bar{\nu}_\ell)$. Our results demonstrate that the double-mixing CP asymmetry can be numerically significant in the absence of strong phases, as shown by the former example. Additionally, the latter example showcases the direct extraction of weak and strong phases from data, without the need for theoretical inputs.

Some Exact Results on CP and CPT Violations in a C =−1 Entangled Pseudoscalar Neutral Meson Pair

Abstract:We consider neutral pseudoscalar mesons in an entangled or Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen state with C=-1. Due to quantum entanglement and antisymmetry of this state, the rates of the joint decays of the meson pair display various interesting features, as is well known. As functions of CP and CPT violating parameters, here we obtain some exact results about the joint decay rates and their asymmetries for a given time difference defined for joint decays to flavor eigenstates, as well as those for joint decays to CP eigenstates. The entanglement allows a meaningful and useful definition of the transition amplitude from a CP eigenstate of a meson. These results yield useful information and criteria on CP and CPT violations.

Abstract:We study CP violation in fermion pair decays of neutral boson particles with spin 0 or 1. We study a new asymmetry to measure CP violation in eta, K(L) --> mu+mu- decays and discuss the possibility of measuring it experimentally. For the spin-1 particles case, we study CP violation in the decays of J/psi to SU(3) octet baryon pairs. We show that these decays can be used to put stringent constraints on the electric dipole moments of LAMBDA, SIGMA, and THETA.
Cp and Cpt Violating Parameters Determined from the Joint Decays of C =+1 Entangled Neutral Pseudoscalar Mesons

Abstract:Entangled pseudoscalar neutral meson pairs have been used in studying CP violation and searching CPT violation, but almost all the previous works concern $C=-1$ entangled state. Here we consider $C=+1$ entangled state of pseudoscalar neutral mesons, which is quite different from $C=-1$ entangled state and provides complementary information on symmetry violating parameters. After developing a general formalism, we consider three kinds of decay processes, namely, semileptonic-semileptonic, hadronic-hadronic and semileptonic-hadronic processes. For each kind of processes, we calculate the integrated rates of joint decays with a fixed time interval, as well as asymmetries defined for these joint rates of different channels. In turn, these asymmetries can be used to determine the four real numbers of the two indirect symmetry violating parameters, based on a general relation between the symmetry violating parameters and the decay asymmetries presented here. Various discussions are made on indirect and direct violations and the violation of $\Delta {\cal F} =\Delta Q$ rule, with some results presented as theorems.

Abstract:Several baryons containing a heavy b-quark, the b-baryons, have been discovered. The charmless two-body decays of b-baryons can provide a new platform for $CP$ violating studies in a similar way provided by charmless two-body decays of B-meson. There are new $CP$ violating observables related to baryon polarization in b-baryon decays. We show that in the flavor $SU(3)$ limit, there exists relations involving different combinations of the decay amplitudes compared with those in $CP$ violating rate asymmetry. These new relations therefore provide interesting tests for the mechanism of $CP$ violations in the standard model (SM) and flavor $SU(3)$ symmetry. Such tests could complement the b-meson decay studies which hint at a better flavor $SU(3)$ conservation in b-hadron decays than in kaon and hyperon decays. Future data from LHCb can provide new information about $CP$ violation in the SM.

Abstract:Basic idea of $CP$ violation and its importance for cosmology, Standard Model and possible New Physics are introduced. Recent (2019) discovery of CP violation in charm in the $\Delta A_{CP}$ between $D^0\rightarrow K^-K^+$ and $D^0\rightarrow \pi^+\pi^-$ decay channels and evidence for direct CP violation in $D^0\rightarrow \pi^-\pi^+$ decays in 2023 is discussed. Motivation and brief outline for search of CP violation in the $D^0\rightarrow V\gamma$, where $V=\phi,\rho^0, \bar{K}^{*0}$ decays is given.

Abstract:With the generalized factorization approximation, we calculate the branching ratios and CP asymmetries in B meson decays into two charmless pseudoscalar mesons. We give a new estimation of the matrix elements of (S+P)(S-P) current products with the PQCD method instead of equation of motion. We find that our results are comparatively smaller than those in the literature.

Abstract:Since the discovery of CP violation more than 5 decades ago, this phenomenon is still attracting a lot of interest. Among the many fascinating aspects of this subject, this review is dedicated to direct CP violation in non-leptonic decays. The advances within the last decade have been enormous, driven by the increasingly large samples of b- and c-hadron decays, and have led to very interesting results such as large CP asymmetries in charmless B decays and the observation of direct CP violation in the charm sector. We address the quest for understanding the origin of strong phases, the importance of final state interactions and the relation with CPT symmetry, and different approaches to measure direct CP violation in these decays. The main experimental results and their implications are then discussed.

Abstract:Small CPT -violating effects are admissible in several theories beyond the Standard Model of interactions. We analyze experimental data obtained with neutral flavored meson mixing and place bounds on the scale of such phenomena. The constraints on the CPT -violating parameter z are derived by reinterpreting the LHCb measurement of the time-dependent asymmetry in the Cabbibo-favored D0→K−π+ and D0 ̄→K+π− decay rates. The bounds provided in this paper are 2 orders of magnitude stricter compared to the results obtained by the FOCUS Collaboration. Among other constraints, we report bounds on the differences in the decay widths and masses of the neutral D meson flavor states at a 95% confidence level. The decay width difference is bounded by (−4.7<δΓD<2.1)×10−16 GeV . The mass difference lies within (−2.0<δmD<2.0)×10−15 GeV for 95% of arg(z) values. Double-mixing CP violation in $B$ decays

Abstract:We study a long-overlooked CP violation observable, termed double-mixing CP violation, which arises from the interference between two neutral meson oscillating paths involved in a decay chain. The double-mixing CP violation is beneficial for the precise test of the Standard Model CKM mechanism, as it offers the potential to extract weak phases without pollution from strong dynamics. To provide a comprehensive understanding of the double-mixing CP violation, we perform phenomenological analyses on the cascade decays of the $B^0_d$ and $B^0_s$ mesons. Our results show that the double-mixing CP violation can be very significant in certain decay channels, such as $B^0_s \to \rho^0 K \to \rho^0(\pi^-\ell^+\nu_\ell)$. In addition, we employ the decay process $B^0_d \to D^0 K \to (K^-\pi^+)(\pi\ell\nu)$ to demonstrate that the involved strong and weak phases can be directly determined from the experimental data without any theoretical inputs.

Abstract:The CKM paradigm has been tested thoroughly over the last 40 years in both the neutral $K$ and $B$ systems. The recent discovery of neutral charm meson mixing has prompted the search for CP violation in $D$ decays. We discuss the prospects of performing time-dependent CP asymmetry measurements at facilities either taking data or under construction. Such measurements can (i) provide precision determinations of the charm mixing phase, and (ii) be used to probe for possible new physics effects (and perhaps ultimately constrain the CKM paradigm). We propose the use of the time-dependent asymmetry measurement of $D^0 \to K^+K^-$ decays to measure the phase of charm mixing, where existing experiments that are either under construction or taking data should be able to reach a precision of $<1.5^\circ$, and to use the phase difference between $D^0 \to K^+K^-$ and $D^0 \to \pi^+\pi^-$ decays to constrain the angle $\beta_c$ of the $cu$ unitarity triangle up to theoretical uncertainties from long distance and loop contributions. A large phase difference measured between these modes would indicate new physics.

Direct $CP$ violation in charmless three-body decays of $B^{\pm}$ mesons

Abstract:Measurements of $CP$ asymmetries in charmless three-body decays of $B^\pm$ mesons are reported using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.9$\,$fb$^{-1}$. The previously observed $CP$ asymmetry in $B^\pm \to \pi^\pm K^+ K^-$ decays is confirmed, and $CP$ asymmetries are observed with a significance of more than five standard deviations in the $B^\pm \to \pi^\pm \pi^+ \pi^-$ and $B^\pm \to K^\pm K^+ K^-$ decays, while the $CP$ asymmetry of $B^\pm \to K^\pm \pi^+ \pi^-$ decays is confirmed to be compatible with zero. The distributions of these asymmetries are also studied as a function of the three-body phase space and suggest contributions from rescattering and resonance interference processes. An indication of the presence of the decays $B^\pm \to \pi^\pm \chi_{c0}(1P)$ in both $B^\pm \to \pi^\pm \pi^+ \pi^-$ and $B^\pm \to \pi^\pm K^+ K^-$ decays is observed, as is $CP$ violation involving these amplitudes.
