Abstract:We implement variational shortcuts to adiabaticity for optical pulse compression in an active nonlinear Kerr medium with distributed amplification and spatially varying dispersion and nonlinearity. Starting with the hyperbolic secant ansatz, we employ a variational approximation to systematically derive dynamical equations, establishing analytical relationships linking the amplitude, width, and chirp of the pulse. Through the inverse engineering approach, we manipulate the distributed gain/loss, nonlinearity and dispersion profiles to efficiently compress the optical pulse over a reduced distance with high fidelity. In addition, we explore the dynamical stability of the system to illustrate the advantage of our protocol over conventional adiabatic approaches. Finally, we analyze the impact of tailored higher-order dispersion on soliton self-compression and derive physical constraints on the final soliton width for the complementary case of soliton expansion. The broader implications of our findings extend beyond optical systems, encompassing areas such as cold-atom and magnetic systems highlighting the versatility and relevance of our approach in various physical contexts.

Abstract:We propose a method for shortcut to adiabatic control of soliton matter waves in harmonic traps. The tunable interaction controlled by Feshbach resonance is inversely designed to achieve fast compression of soliton matter waves but within a short time, as compared to the conventional adiabatic compression. These results pave the way to control the nonlinear dynamics for matter waves and optical solitons by using shortcuts to adiabaticity.

Abstract:This manuscript delves into the exploration of a third-order dispersive Schrödinger equation incorporating Kerr nonlinear effects, a common model employed for the transmission of optical fiber pulses. Utilizing an effective analytical approach, the study unveils previously undiscovered exact solutions for the Schrödinger equation, with a primary focus on analyzing optical solitons within nonlinear Schrödinger equations. The proposed method leverages a Riccati equation, yielding solutions expressed in trigonometric and hyperbolic functions. Noteworthy are the captivating dynamics exhibited by the optical solitons across diverse spatial variables, denoted as x . All numerical results are executed using Mathematica software and are visually presented in both 2D and 3D space. Additionally, the manuscript elucidates the significance of these findings in advancing our understanding of optical soliton behavior within the realm of nonlinear Schrödinger equations.

Abstract:We obtain exact spatiotemporal similaritons to a (3+1)-dimensional inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrodinger equation, which describes the propagation of optical pulses in a cubic-quintic nonlinearity medium with distributed dispersion and gain. A one-to-one correspondence between such self-similar waves and solutions of the elliptic equation is found when a certain compatibility condition is satisfied. Based on exact solutions, we discuss evolutional behaviors of self-similar cnoidal waves and chirped similaritons in two kind of typical soliton control systems. Moreover, the comparison between chirped similaritons and chirp-free solitons is given.

Abstract:In this article, the modified extended Fan sub-equation approach as an analytical tool to investigate the optical soliton solutions of the paraxial wave dynamical model with Kerr media. Indistinguishable and non-diffractive spatially scattered waves transmitting in the optical Kerr medium are explained by optical solitary waves. The solitons, single and mixed non-degenerate Jacobi elliptic function type solutions of the time-dependent dimensionless paraxial wave equation are assembled using the modified extended Fan sub-equation approach. The aforementioned approach offers new, comprehensive solutions that are relatively easy to implement, in contrast to earlier continuous strategies. This technique uses a traveling wave transformation to convert a non-linear partial differential equation into an ODE. The developed wave solutions have substantial significance in the fields of science and engineering. Visual illustrations of various soliton layouts can be achieved by supplying suitable values for the parameters via this technique. The computer software Mathematica 13.2 is used to illustrate several modulus, real, and imaginary solutions visually in the form of contour, 2 D , and 3 D visualizations that help understand the concrete importance of the paraxial wave dynamical model. The results are fascinating and can potentially be helpful in investigating the stochastic aspects of many nonlinear physical theories that arise in optical studies and a number of other scientific fields.

Abstract:Kerr media are applied in the photonic lattices and optical fibers, while optical fiber communication becomes one of the main pillars of modern communication. In this letter, we study a (3[Formula: see text]+[Formula: see text]1)-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equation with distributed coefficients for the spatiotemporal optical solitons or light bullets in a diffractive nonlinear Kerr medium with anomalous dispersion. The N-dark soliton solutions in terms of the Gramian is obtained via the Kadomtsev–Petviashvili hierarchy reduction, where N is a positive integer. Via the graphic analysis, we observe the interaction of the two dark solitons. Effects from the diffraction/dispersion coefficient [Formula: see text] and gain coefficient [Formula: see text] are also discussed on the amplitudes and oscillations of the two dark solitons, as well as on the interaction of the two dark parabolic shape solitons.
Diverse optical solitons to the complex Ginzburg–Landau equation with Kerr law nonlinearity in the nonlinear optical fiber

Abstract:This work considers the complex Ginzburg–Landau equation with Kerr law nonlinearity, which is used widely to model soliton propagation in the presence of detuning factor. Abundant optical solitons including the bright soliton, dark soliton, bright-like soliton, kinky-bright soliton, double-bright soliton, perfect periodic soliton, singular periodic soliton and other solitons that expressed in the term of the generalized hyperbolic, generalized trigonometric, hyperbolic, trigonometric and rational functions are constructed by three recent techniques, namely the variational direct method, Sardar-subequation method and Sub-equation method. The profiles of the absolute parts are illustrated in the form of 3-D plots, 2-D contours and 2-D curves by choosing proper parametric values to interpret the physical behaviors of the optical solitons. The corresponding physical explanations are elaborated. To our knowledge, the obtained solutions in this work are all new and have not been reported elsewhere, which can be used to extend the exact solutions of the studied model. Furthermore, the results found in this work are expected to shed a light to the study of the soliton theory in optics.

Scaling laws for soliton pulse compression by cascaded quadratic nonlinearities

Abstract:We present a detailed study of soliton compression of ultra-short pulses based on phase-mismatched second-harmonic generation (\textit{i.e.}, the cascaded quadratic nonlinearity) in bulk quadratic nonlinear media. The single-cycle propagation equations in the temporal domain including higher-order nonlinear terms are presented. The balance between the quadratic (SHG) and the cubic (Kerr) nonlinearity plays a crucial role: we define an effective soliton number -- related to the difference between the SHG and the Kerr soliton numbers -- and show that it has to be larger than unity for successful pulse compression to take place. This requires that the phase mismatch be below a critical level, which is high in a material where the quadratic nonlinearity dominates over the cubic Kerr nonlinearity. Through extensive numerical simulations we find dimensionless scaling laws, expressed through the effective soliton number, which control the behaviour of the compressed pulses. These laws hold in the stationary regime, in which group-velocity mismatch effects are small, and they are similar to the ones observed for fiber soliton compressors. The numerical simulations indicate that clean compressed pulses below two optical cycles can be achieved in a $\beta$-barium borate crystal at appropriate wavelengths, even for picosecond input pulses.

Temporal Walk-off Induced Dissipative Quadratic Solitons

Abstract:A plethora of applications have recently motivated extensive efforts on the generation of low noise Kerr solitons and coherent frequency combs in various platforms ranging from fiber to whispering gallery and integrated microscale resonators. However, the Kerr (cubic) nonlinearity is inherently weak, and in contrast, strong quadratic nonlinearity in optical resonators is expected to provide an alternative means for soliton formation with promising potential. Here, we demonstrate the formation of a dissipative quadratic soliton via non-stationary optical parametric amplification in the presence of significant temporal walk-off between pump and signal leading to half-harmonic generation accompanied by a substantial pulse compression (exceeding a factor of 40) at low pump pulse energies ($\sim$ 4 picojoules). The bright quadratic soliton forms in a low-finesse cavity in both normal and anomalous dispersion regimes, which is in stark contrast with bright Kerr solitons. We present a route to significantly improve the performance of the demonstrated quadratic soliton when extended to an integrated nonlinear platform to realize highly-efficient extreme pulse compression leading to the formation of few-cycle soliton pulses starting from ultra-low energy picosecond scale pump pulses that are widely tunable from ultra-violet to mid-infrared spectral regimes.

Abstract:Modern Physics Letters B, Ahead of Print. This study delves into the soliton solutions of the [math]-dimensional perturbed complex Ginzburg–Landau equation characterized by Kerr law, under the condition of absent chromatic dispersion. The complex Ginzburg–Landau equation, a basic equation in nonlinear science, describes various complex systems including optical fibers, Bose–Einstein condensates, and fluid dynamics. By applying the Auxiliary equation scheme, we explore the bright and kink soliton solutions and modulation instability of the considered model by incorporating Kerr nonlinearity, which describes the intensity-dependent refractive index in optical media. Furthermore, detailed 3D-surface and 2D graphs of obtained soliton solutions have been added. Additionally, graphs illustrating the impacts of various parameters for the considered model on soliton solutions are presented in this study. Our findings provide deeper inspirations into the structures of soliton formation and propagation in nonlinear media, contributing to the theoretical understanding and potential implementations in optical communication systems and beyond. This work underscores the critical role of nonlinearity in forming solitons and offers a framework for further exploration of perturbed nonlinear systems devoid of chromatic dispersion effects.

Abstract:This paper aims to study an improved perturbed Schrödinger equation (IPSE) with a kind of Kerr law non-linearity equation governing the propagation dynamics of soliton in optical fibers through the nano-optical fiber. The considered model predicts the influence of quantic non-linearity on the motion of ultrashort optical pulses. The integrability of the model is accompanied by the transformed rational function V-expansion method (for simplicity V = ( G ′ G 2 ) ). This proposed method is a significant mathematical tool to obtain the exact travelings wave solutions of non-linear complex partial differential equations (PDEs). A bunch of soliton solutions like dark, dark singular, plane wave solution, and periodic are retrieved along with suitable parametric values. The graphical analysis is also presented for the description of propagation of waves expressed by rational functions, hyperbolic functions, and trigonometric functions.

Abstract:Dissipative Kerr solitons (DKS) have long been suffering from poor power conversion efficiency when driven by continuous-wave lasers. By deriving the critical coupling condition of a multimode nonlinear optics system in a generalized theoretical framework, two efficiency limitations of the conventional pump method of DKS are revealed: the effective coupling rate is too small and is also power-dependent. A general approach is provided to resolve this challenge by introducing two types of nonlinear couplers to couple the soliton cavity and CW input through nonlinear processes. The collective coupler opens multiple coupling channels and the self-adaptive coupler builds a power-independent effective external coupling rate to the DKS for approaching the generalized critical coupling condition, which promises near-unity power conversion efficiencies. For instance, a conversion efficiency exceeding 90% is predicted for aluminum nitride microrings with a nonlinear coupler utilizing second-harmonic generation. The mechanism applies to various nonlinear processes, including Raman and Brillouin scattering, and thus paves the way for micro-solitons toward practical applications.

Abstract:Twin-core optical fibers are applied in such fields as the optical sensing and optical communication, and propagation of the pulses, Gauss beams and laser beams in the non-Kerr media is reported. Studied in this paper are the coupled cubic-quintic nonlinear Schrodinger equations with variable coefficients, which describe the effects of quintic nonlinearity for the ultrashort optical pulse propagation in a twin-core optical fiber or non-Kerr medium. Based on the integrable conditions, bilinear forms are derived, and dark-dark soliton solutions can be constructed in terms of the Gramian via the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili hierarchy reduction. Propagation and interaction of the dark-dark solitons are presented and discussed through the graphic analysis. With different values of the delayed nonlinear response effect b(z), where z represents direction of the propagation, the linear- and parabolic-shaped one dark-dark soltions can be derived. Interactions between the parabolic- and periodic-shaped two dark-dark solitons are presented with b(z) as the linear and periodic functions, respectively. Directions of velocities of the two dark-dark solitons vary with z and the amplitudes of the solitons remain unchanged can be observed. Interactions between the two dark-dark solitons of different types are displayed, and we observe that the velocity of one soliton is zero and direction of the velocity of the other soliton vary with z. We find that those interactions are elastic.
Dispersion-less Kerr Solitons in Spectrally Confined Optical Cavities

Abstract:Solitons are self-reinforcing localized wave packets arising from a balance of linear and nonlinear effects. This definition encompasses the interplay of nonlinear gain and loss, leading to the concept of dissipative solitons that has been instrumental in understanding the wide variety of mode locking phenomena in ultrafast optics. To date, most studies have involved the group velocity dispersion as a key ingredient for soliton generation. Here, we report on a novel kind of soliton, both theoretically and experimentally, which builds up in spectrally confined cavities when dispersion is practically absent. Precisely, the interplay between the Kerr nonlinearity and spectral filtering results in an infinite hierarchy of eigenfunctions which, combined with optical gain, allow for the generation of stable dispersion-less dissipative solitons in a previously uncharted regime. When the filter order tends to be infinite, we find an unexpected link between dissipative and conservative solitons, in the form of Nyquist-pulse-like solitons endowed with an ultra-flat spectrum. In contrast to the dispersion-enabled solitons, these dispersion-less Nyquist solitons build on a fully confined spectrum and their energy scaling is not constrained by the pulse duration. This study broadens the fundamental scope of dissipative soliton physics and opens new avenues for engineering optical solitons endowed with superior temporal and spectral features.

Shortcuts to Adiabaticity in Krylov Space

Abstract:Shortcuts to adiabaticity provide fast protocols for quantum state preparation in which the use of auxiliary counterdiabatic controls circumvents the requirement of slow driving in adiabatic strategies. While their development is well established in simple systems, their engineering and implementation are challenging in many-body quantum systems with many degrees of freedom. We show that the equation for the counterdiabatic term, equivalently the adiabatic gauge potential, is solved by introducing a Krylov basis. The Krylov basis spans the minimal operator subspace in which the dynamics unfolds and provides an efficient way to construct the counterdiabatic term. We apply our strategy to paradigmatic single- and many-particle models. The properties of the counterdiabatic term are reflected in the Lanczos coefficients obtained in the course of the construction of the Krylov basis by an algorithmic method. We examine how the expansion in the Krylov basis incorporates many-body interactions in the counterdiabatic term.

Vector Solitons for the (2 + 1)‐dimensional Coupled Nonlinear Schrödinger System in the Kerr Nonlinear Optical Fiber

Abstract:Investigated in this paper is the (2 + 1)-dimensional coupled nonlinear Schrodinger system, which describes the propagation of the optical soliton through the Kerr nonlinear fiber in which each component diffracts in two transverse dimensions. By virtue of the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili hierarchy reduction, we obtain the bright, dark and mixed vector soliton solutions in terms of the Gramian. We investigate the vector solitons graphically: (1) Bright-dark one solitons with one of the components being gray or black are shown. Bouncing, beating, oscillating and breathing effects which appear during the interactions between the bright-dark two solitons are discussed, and those interactions are shape-preserving; (2) Degenerate and non-degenerate dark-dark one solitons are presented. Interaction of the dark-dark two solitons is discussed and the two solitons keep their amplitudes and velocities invariant except for some phase shifts during the interaction; (3) Bound-state and complexes of the bright-bright solitons are presented.

Abstract:Studies on nonlinear optics are active, providing the applications in modulators, fiber lasers, optical sensors, etc. In this paper, we investigate an inhomogeneous reduced Maxwell–Bloch system, which could describe the ultra-short optical pulses through an inhomogeneous medium. N -fold Darboux transformation of that system is constructed via an existing Lax pair, where N is a positive integer. Generalized Darboux transformation of that system is obtained via a limit procedure. One- and two-soliton solutions of that system are determined with the aid of the N -fold Darboux transformation. The double-pole soliton solutions are derived via the generalized Darboux transformation. With respect to the electric field, microscopic polarization, phase information, and atomic inversion related to the inhomogeneous medium, the one soliton, interaction between the two solitons, and double-pole soliton are graphically depicted. Effects of the coefficients in that system on those solitons are shown via the trigonometric and linear functions.

Abstract:Under investigation in this paper is a derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation with variable coefficients, which governs the propagation of the subpicosecond soliton pulses in inhomogeneous optical fibers. Through the nonisospectral Kaup–Newell scheme, the Lax pair is constructed with some constraints on the variable coefficients. Under the integrable conditions, bright one- and multi-soliton-like solutions are derived via the Hirota method. By suitably choosing the dispersion coefficient function, several types of inhomogeneous solitons are obtained in, respectively: (1) exponentially decreasing dispersion profile, (2) linearly decreasing dispersion profile, (3) exponentially increasing dispersion profile, and (4) periodically fluctuating dispersion profile. The intensity of the inhomogeneous soliton can be controlled by means of modifying the loss/gain term. Asymptotic analysis of the two-soliton-like solution is performed, which shows that the changes of the widths, amplitudes, and energies before and after the collision are completely caused by the variable coefficients, but have nothing to do with the collision between two soliton-like envelopes. Through suitable choices of variable coefficients, figures are plotted to illustrate the collision behavior between two inhomogeneous solitons, which has some potential applications in the real optical communication systems.
