Applied Mathematical Modelling
Abstract:
In this study, a unified vibration model of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) cylindrical shell with functionally graded porous graphene platelets (FGPGP) coating is proposed. The material properties of four types of FGPGP coating are presented first, and then the displacements of the structure are expressed by using the first-order shear deformation theory. The energy expressions of coating are introduced by the multi-segment partition technique. Then, an artificial spring method is employed to simulate arbitrary boundary conditions. With the application of the Jacobi orthogonal polynomials and the multi-segment partition techniques, the equation of motion of FRPCS with FG-PGP coating is derived to solve the free and forced vibrations. Finally, the model is systematically verified with some references and dynamic analysis with different coating patterns, boundary conditions and the thickness of coating are comprehensively investigated.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is the unified vibration modeling and dynamic analysis of fiber - reinforced polymer (FRP) cylindrical shells with functionally graded porous graphene plate (FGPGP) coatings under arbitrary boundary conditions. Specifically, the research aims to: 1. **Propose a unified vibration model**: For FRP cylindrical shells with FGPGP coatings, propose a vibration model that can handle arbitrary boundary conditions. 2. **Describe material properties**: Describe in detail the material properties of four types of FGPGP coatings and express the displacement of the structure using the first - order shear deformation theory. 3. **Introduce energy expressions**: Introduce the energy expressions of the coatings through the multi - segment partitioning technique. 4. **Simulate arbitrary boundary conditions**: Use the artificial spring method to simulate arbitrary boundary conditions. 5. **Derive and solve equations**: Use Jacobi orthogonal polynomials and the multi - segment partitioning technique to derive the equations of motion of FRP cylindrical shells with FGPGP coatings to solve free vibration and forced vibration problems. 6. **Verify and analyze the model**: Systematically verify the model and conduct a comprehensive study on the dynamic performance of different coating patterns, boundary conditions and coating thicknesses. Through these steps, the research aims to improve the anti - vibration performance and dynamic stability of FRP cylindrical shells in complex environments.
