Abstract:Individuals who experience a traumatic injury or an acute illness are often reliant on initial healthcare assessment and support from a pre‐hospital emergency medical service (EMS). These community‐based support models perform a vital role in the provision of life‐saving support, but research indicates that the availability, accessibility and resources of EMS are not equivalent in rural and urban areas, and there has been little recognition of the issues facing rural EMS provision outside of the USA, Europe and Australia. The purpose of the current study was to examine the lived experiences of Saudi Arabian EMS personnel, defined as emergency medical technicians, paramedics and local station managers. A semi‐structured interview approach was used to collect data from 20 interviewees (10 each with rural and urban personnel) in the Riyadh region of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This methodology was used to identify the key issues that these staff face in their day‐to‐day work practice and ascertain factors that may lead to service delivery issues in rural and urban areas. Data analyses identified three thematic categories impacting EMS delivery; two of these, Personnel Factors and Patient Factors, are the focus of this paper. The participants noted a number of key issues, including a lack of appropriate local training and limited resources in rural areas, as well as general areas of concern regarding the wider EMS staff demographic makeup and poor public awareness about the exact role of the EMS. Three key recommendations arising from this study include specialised training and ongoing accessible education for rural EMS staff to allow for better support for patients; consideration of supplementing the current EMS with additional external specialist staff; and the development and implementation of national public education programmes focusing on the role of the EMS within the community.

Abstract:Policy reforms implemented in Saudi Arabia in recent years aim to modernize the culture and infrastructure of healthcare delivery and are expected to integrate person‐ and patient‐centered care principles throughout the national healthcare system. However, in a complex multicultural environment where most nurses are international migrant workers, unique challenges emerge that frame the delivery of care. Better understanding is needed about what nurses perceive to be high‐quality, person‐centered care in Saudi Arabia and how they manage to enact it in practice. Semi‐structured interviews were conducted with 21 nurses working in two tertiary hospitals in Riyadh, the capital city. Participants included Saudi citizens (n = 9) and expatriates (n = 12) who were asked to describe their perceptions of quality nursing care and explain the obstacles that they encounter in providing such care. Nurses reported extensive efforts to achieve individualized, empathetic, developmentally appropriate care. Their descriptions of care aligned with principles of patient‐centeredness in care but were not separable from challenges at the patient, organizational, and regional levels, including staffing and supplies shortages, gaps in regional care coordination, inadequate language translation services, variability in cultural beliefs about healthcare communication, and overt discrimination against expatriate workers. Nurses reported creative strategies to achieve professional nursing values while navigating a dynamic landscape of constraints. The findings add to literature suggesting that person‐centeredness in care cannot be understood outside the social and organizational conditions that shape it.

Abstract:Introduction Globally, injuries account for 9% of all deaths, with road accidents contributing to approximately a quarter of these fatalities. A major concern is the inadequacy of pre-hospital care (emergency medical services provided before arrival at a hospital) and delays in transportation to medical facilities, identified as leading causes of preventable injury-related deaths. This study explores the experiences of emergency health professionals (EHPs) in peri -hospital services (emergency medical services provided immediately upon arrival and within the hospital setting). Methods A qualitative exploratory design, underpinned by Van Manen's (1990) descriptive phenomenological principles, was used. Thirty EHPs from five central and southern Jordanian emergency departments were purposefully sampled, including physicians, nurses, and paramedics from both emergency departments and pre-hospital services. Results Two primary themes emerged: (1) In Search of Clarity: The Unsettled Journey of Pre-hospital Emergency Care Providers; (2) Frustrations on the Frontline: Role Ambiguity and Emotional Exhaustion in Trauma Care, with EHPs reporting fluid and unclear roles, physical and verbal abuse, and limited authority in critical interventions. Conclusion The study highlights several service lapses in peri -hospital care that negatively impact healthcare professionals, posing risks to patient safety. These findings urge decision-makers to devise actionable strategies to rectify these deficiencies, enhancing care quality and thereby decreasing injury-induced mortality and morbidity.

Exploring the Challenges in Palliative Care As Perceived by the Saudi Physicians: A Cross-Sectional Study

Abstract:Background: Palliative care is essential for managing patients with life-limiting illnesses. In Saudi Arabia, providing effective palliative care is uniquely challenging due to cultural, religious, and social factors. Despite healthcare advancements, there is a gap in understanding the challenges faced by physicians in palliative care within this context. Aims: This study aimed to explore the challenges encountered in palliative care as perceived by physicians in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted using an electronic questionnaire distributed among physicians involved in palliative care at the specified healthcare institutions. The questionnaire assessed their perceptions of the challenges in palliative care and the influence of their socio-demographic backgrounds on these perceptions. Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). Results: The age distribution of the enrolled physicians showed that a majority were between 20-40 years old (48.48%, n = 96). Male physicians accounted for 64.65% (n = 128), and females for 35.35% (n = 70). Various specialties were represented, with critical care (15.66%, n = 31) and radiation oncology (16.67%, n = 33) being the most common. Major challenges identified included limited outpatient and inpatient services (54.55%, n = 108), restricted access to allied healthcare professionals (60.61%, n = 120), ethical dilemmas due to triaging (63.13%, n = 125), lack of telemedicine facilities (57.07%, n = 113), and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on pain and palliative care research (60.1%, n = 119). Strategies adopted to mitigate these challenges included creating triage systems (54.55%, n = 108), using telemedicine (60.61%, n = 120), advanced care planning (63.13%, n = 125), and providing necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) (60.1%, n = 119). Conclusion: This study highlights significant barriers in palliative care, such as limited services, ethical dilemmas, and lack of telemedicine facilities. Addressing these challenges requires ethical support for healthcare providers, integration of telemedicine, continuous education, and improved access to multidisciplinary care teams, which are crucial for enhancing palliative care quality and ensuring comprehensive patient support.

Abstract:Background: Determining the prevalence of PTSD and contributing variables among (EMS) specialists was the goal of the current investigation. Furthermore, limited evidence exists regarding the application of PCL-5 for EMT practitioners, and the incidence of PTSD among different age groups and genders in Saudi Arabia. Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study includes 211 prehospital care providers of the Saudi Red Crescent Authority stations in Riyadh. The randomization was done using Google Forms into subgroups according to participants' gender, years of experience, occupations, and average working hours. The presence and severity of PTSD symptoms were evaluated using the 20-item PTSD Checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5) self-report questionnaire. Data were analyzed using Pearson Chi-Square, Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis tests. The reliability statistics were calculated using Cronbach's Alpha for the 20-survey questionnaire. Results: The comparison of PCL-5 total scores indicated more PTSD symptomatology among females (1.61 + 0.799) as compared to male workers (1.13 + 0.642). The total score of PTSD demonstrated no statistically significant (P=0.79) differences between our age group classifications. In terms of the participants' city (Riyadh), the total PTSD score was less than the cutoff point which is 31. PTSD total score may not be affected by working experience as indicated by the non-significant difference in prevalence among EMT practitioners having <5 years, 5-10 years and above 10 years of working experience (P=0.215 with X2 = 3.076). PTSD incidence is affected by the type of occupation as statistically significant differences between groups (P=0.001) were recorded depending on the position and responsibilities of EMS practitioners. PTSD is also affected by average working hours per week, and there were statistically significant differences between groups (P=0.001). Conclusion: The total score of PTSD in the case of emergency service practitioners was found to be 33.7% among all the research participants, which may be regarded as a high prevalence when compared to the general population. Our investigations would contribute to a better understanding of the underlying factors of mental stress in EMS specialists in Saudi Arabia and to the development of adequate mental health practices.

Experiences, Perceptions, and Coping Patterns of Emergency Department Nurses with Occupational Stressors in Saudi Arabian Hospitals: Mixed-Method Study

Abstract:Extended working hours, a complicated workplace environment, and engagement in numerous physical and psychological stressors have been associated with the stressful nature of the nursing profession. Only a few studies have provided some insight into workplace stress and coping strategies adopted by nurses in Saudi Arabia and neighboring countries. Therefore, this study utilized a mixed-method design to explore the numerous factors that lead to stress among emergency nurses, their experience and perception of stress, and the coping mechanisms they find useful. A survey containing four domains and 86 items was adapted, pilot tested, and validated. The quantitative phase recruited 296 nurses who returned completed questionnaires, and then 21 nurses were interviewed for the qualitative phase. In total, 89.5% (n = 265) of the participants were female, 51% (n = 151) were aged 20–29 years, 83% (n = 246) were non-Saudi nationals, 49% (n = 145) were married, and 82% (n = 245) had a bachelor's degree. The most common causes of occupational stress were work overload, personnel shortages, and inadequate pay. The qualitative phase data revealed five primary themes, including increased workload, rising living costs despite equal compensation, and staff shortages as main stressors. In addition, the study found that praying and spending quality time with friends are the primary coping techniques among nurses. The study results contribute to a better understanding of nurses' working conditions in the emergency department. Additionally, they may contribute to the development of policies and practice reforms to improve Saudi nurses' well-being, health, and overall work experience.

Compassion Satisfaction, Burnout, and Secondary Traumatic Stress among Saudi Nurses at Medical City: A Cross-Sectional Study

Abstract:Compassion satisfaction, the pleasure gained from assisting others in their recovery from trauma, can help reduce the effects of burnout and secondary traumatic stress. As such, nurses' job satisfaction can be increased by increasing compassion satisfaction and decreasing compassion fatigue. This study examined the incidence of compassion fatigue and other influencing variables, such as compassion satisfaction, burnout, and secondary traumatic stress, among Saudi nurses. This was a cross-sectional study using convenience sampling. Participants comprised 177 registered nurses from various nursing departments. Data collection included the Professional Quality of Life Scale based on lifestyle, demographic details, and occupation-related questions. The averages of scores for the variables, compassion satisfaction, burnout, and secondary traumatic stress, were recorded (37.1 ± 7.4, 25.7 ± 7.5, and 26.7 ± 6.4). Participants aged 36 or older comprised a negative factor for compassion satisfaction, while years of nursing experience and higher job satisfaction were favorable predictors. Together, these three variables accounted for 30.3% of the overall variation. Low job satisfaction and poor sleep negatively affected burnout, accounting for 39.8% of the total variance. The results offer insights into identifying the risks of compassion fatigue in nurses and help design strategies to address burnout and secondary traumatic stress while enhancing their compassion satisfaction levels.

Utilization of prehospital emergency medical services in Saudi Arabia: An urban versus rural comparison

Abstract:Background: There is limited research outside the USA, Europe, or Australia on the capacity, efficiency, and development of prehospital emergency medicine services (EMS) between urban and rural areas. This study aimed to examine the usage of prehospital EMS across rural and urban areas in Riyadh region in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Methods: A random sample of 800 (400 urban and 400 rural) emergency patient records from the Saudi Red Crescent Authority EMS was collected. The following variables were analyzed: patient demographics, clinical characteristics, length of hospital stay, and length of intensive care unit (ICU) stay. Results: A skewed distribution was noted with respect to sex, i.e., 559 men versus 241 women. Rural patients were younger (42.75 vs. 39.72 years) and had significantly longer hospital (15 days versus 9 days) and ICU (5 days versus 2 days) stays than urban patients following transportation. All injury types were comparable, except for head injury, which was higher in the rural group than in the urban group. Advanced treatment and trauma transport were more often used in rural areas than in urban areas. Conclusions: In this study, rural EMS users were more likely to experience trauma-related incidents that necessitate EMS transportation, while medical reasons were more common among urban EMS users. Moreover, men used EMS at much higher rates than women and were more likely to be transported to the hospital following a call-out.

Abstract:Background: Nurses working in palliative and end-of-life care settings face significant emotional challenges due to the demanding nature of their profession. This study aimed to explore the emotional resilience of these nurses, understanding the factors that contribute to their resilience, the impact on their professional well-being and performance, and strategies to enhance resilience. Methods: A qualitative study was conducted involving 15 registered nurses from various healthcare facilities in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, document analysis, and observational data. Thematic analysis was employed to identify recurring themes. Results: The study identified three key themes: Emotional Challenges and Resilience-Building, Support Systems and Resources for Resilience, and Professional Growth and Fulfillment as Resilience Factors. The findings revealed the emotional toll of patient suffering, highlighting resilience-building strategies, such as peer support, mindfulness, and reflective practices. Support systems, including workplace support, organizational resources, and mentorship, were identified as crucial for fostering resilience. Professional growth, a sense of purpose, and recognition emerged as factors contributing to resilience. Conclusions: This study underscores the importance of emotional resilience for nurses in palliative and end-of-life care settings. Healthcare organizations can enhance resilience by implementing resilience training, providing counseling services, fostering a supportive culture, and offering professional development opportunities. Addressing the emotional needs of nurses is vital for their well-being and the delivery of compassionate care.

Abstract:Negative experiences on an internship can adversely affect the attitude and confidence of nursing students. This highlights the need to explore the experiences of nursing students as they progress through their training. The present study examines the challenges and problems faced by nursing students during their internship program at a hospital in Medina, Saudi Arabia. The study employed a qualitative exploratory study design by recruiting eight nursing students. Face-to-face semi-structured interviews were conducted to gather data. Moreover, the data were thematically analyzed. The major challenges and problems experienced by the nursing students were lack of support, distrust, improper behavior, and absence of a preceptorship program. There is a negative impact of these issues on nursing practice in clinical settings. The study concludes that positive outcomes are likely to be achieved by improving the internship program.
Awareness of importance of triaging in emergency department in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Abstract:The emergency department (ED) is an important component of a healthcare system. Increased rates of visiting the ED, even for non-urgent cases, makes it necessary to prioritize patients who require immediate care over those who can wait. This process is called triage. However, although triage helps to deliver efficient service for the more needy patients, it results in delays for others, who may be left unsatisfied as a result. The aim of this research is therefore to assess the public awareness about triage in the ED and its importance in delivering improvements in healthcare in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. To this end, a cross-sectional research method was adopted to conduct a study on the Saudi population between the periods from 01 November 2022 to 31 November 2022. The study used a self-administrated, validated and translated electronic questionnaire. SPSS software version 23 was used for data analysis. The study included 2056 participants, who reported the major causes for the last ED visit to be abdominal pain (26.4%) and headaches (14.4%). The mean ± standard deviation (SD) score of knowledge was 8.79 ± 2.13. Moreover, this mean significantly differed between educational levels (p ˂ 0.001), current jobs (p = 0.001), and residence (p ˂ 0.001). The majority (82.9%) reported that increasing the working hours of primary healthcare (PHC) centers would reduce the ED’s crowdedness. The data thus showed there was inadequate knowledge and some gaps regarding triage in the ED among the public population in Saudi Arabia. Educational level, current job and residence were determinants for the level of knowledge. Abstract:Objectives Emergency Medical Services (EMS) workers are critical to effective disaster response. Therefore, it is important to understand their knowledge, skills, and preparedness for disasters. This study investigated factors influencing EMS workers' disaster knowledge, skills, and preparedness in the Saudi Arabian context. The study also sought to identify challenges to disaster preparedness among Saudi Arabian EMS workers. Methods A descriptive cross-sectional survey using The Disaster Preparedness Evaluation Tool was distributed to EMS workers in military and government hospitals across 3 Saudi Arabian cities. Responses were recorded on a 6-point Likert scale where higher scores indicated higher knowledge, skills, or preparedness. The results were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. Results 272EMS workers participated in this study. EMS workers reported a moderate level of knowledge (3.56), skills (3.44), and preparedness (3.73) for disasters. Despite this, EMS workers reported a high level of involvement in regular disaster drills (M = 4.24, SD = 1.274) and a strong interest in further disaster education opportunities (M = 5.43, SD = 1.121). Participants also reported a high skill level with the triage principles used in their workplace during a disaster (M = 4.06, SD = 1.218). The study findings revealed a significant positive correlation between disaster preparedness levels and age, years of experience, education level, and the facility worked in. Conclusions EMS workers have moderate disaster knowledge, skills, and preparedness levels. Knowledge, skill, and preparedness have a significant relationship on the EMS workers' demographics. These findings demonstrate the need to invest in preparing Saudi Arabian EMS workers to effectively respond to bioterrorism disasters.

Results: The majority of participants exhibited a commendable level of ethical knowledge and practice, with frequent encounters of ethical or legal issues highlighting the pervasive nature of ethical challenges in emergency healthcare settings. Key sources of ethical knowledge included experiential learning and academic lectures, with a notable emphasis on practical experience. Despite the satisfactory level of ethical awareness, areas requiring further educational focus were identified, emphasizing the need for enhanced ethics training tailored to the emergency medical context. Discussion: The findings underline the critical importance of incorporating ethics into the core of healthcare education and ongoing professional development for HCWs. Establishing a culture of continuous ethical dialogue and learning is essential for fostering patient-centered care and making informed ethical decisions in the fast-paced environment of emergency services. The study advocates for revising current ethics training programs to ensure they are comprehensive, relevant, and accessible, preparing HCWs to effectively address both current and future ethical challenges. In-service education in trauma care for intensive care unit nurses: An exploratory multiple case study

Abstract:Aim: This study explores the perceptions of intensive care units (ICUs) nurses with different educational backgrounds regarding their abilities in trauma care and the in-service education they receive to support it. Background: The advanced care of patients with traumatic injuries in ICU environments requires skilled and knowledgeable nurses, who need continuing and in-service education to provide the best care. Therefore, it is essential to understand the competencies and educational support these nurses may need in the ICUs to ensure safe and effective care delivery. Design: An exploratory multiple case study design was used, comprising three hospitals located in two different regions of Saudi Arabia. Methods: The study was conducted between October 2021 and March 2022. A total of forty ICU clinical staff, twelve managers, nine leaders and seven clinical educators participated in semi-structured interviews, which were complemented by a review of available documents on the trauma care in-service education syllabi, competencies and protocols. Interview data were analysed according to the Framework analysis approach, while documents were reviewed using qualitative content analysis. Findings: The data analysis revealed two interrelated categories relevant to trauma care: (i) care practice and (ii) education practice. The trauma care practice category highlighted the limited competencies and education in trauma care, as well as the perceived challenges and educational needs of nurses. The education practice category described the staff learning behaviours, supervision practices and in-service education systems in the participants' settings. Conclusions: The study concludes that there is a lack of trauma care education at the examined sites. It suggests the need for further research to develop a theoretical foundation for trauma care education that can meet ICU nurses' educational needs while this being feasible to implement in the specific ICU context and practice.
Professional Quality of Life Among Nurses: Compassion Satisfaction, Burnout, and Secondary Traumatic Stress: A Multisite Study

Abstract:Introduction Increased stressors and decreased job satisfaction are major challenges in nursing. Important factors of better professional quality of life include compassion satisfaction, burnout, and secondary traumatic stress. It is critical to assess these factors to help improve nurses’ clinical practices. Objective The purpose of this study was to determine the relationships between the three factors and associated factors. Methods A cross-sectional, multisite study was conducted on a convenience sample of 464 nurses working at three public hospitals in Saudi Arabia. The Professional Quality of Life Version 5 was used to collect data. Bivariate and multivariate analyses were run using SPSS. Results Scores were slightly moderate on the compassion satisfaction, burnout, and secondary traumatic stress levels. Compassion satisfaction was statistically significantly and negatively associated with burnout. A statistically significant relationship was reported between compassion satisfaction and secondary traumatic stress. Further, there was a statistically significant association between burnout and secondary traumatic stress. In regression, only the secondary traumatic stress model was statistically significant. Conclusions Nurse managers should use highly standard guidelines to reduce secondary traumatic stress levels. Further actions addressing potential issues for improving compassion satisfaction and reducing burnout levels among nurses are also recommended.
Emergency Physicians' Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices Related to Psychiatric Emergencies in Makkah's General Hospitals in Saudi Arabia: A Cross-Sectional Study

Abstract:Purpose: This study aims to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of emergency physicians (EPs) related to psychiatric emergencies (PEs) in Makkah's general hospitals. Sample and methods: This study was an observational cross-sectional study using an online survey distributed to 138 EPs in the emergency departments (EDs) of six public hospitals in Makkah City, Saudi Arabia, between March 15 and May 1, 2023. A convenience sample was used for data collection. The questionnaire was developed after related surveys in the literature were reviewed. Results: 59.9% of the physicians were aged 20-30 years. Most (68.8%) worked in hospitals that had psychiatric facilities. Regarding knowledge, only 30% of the emergency doctors were considered knowledgeable: the majority could identify PEs (79.7%), perform mental status examinations (71.0%), distinguish physical and mental symptoms (66.7%), and communicate with psychiatric patients (58.0%). However, only 52.9% could initiate management plans by prescribing psychiatric medication to patients. In relation to attitude, most physicians disagreed with the idea that healthcare practitioners do not need to advocate for psychiatric patients (67.4%), but many (62.3%) assumed that they do not have the responsibility to manage psychiatric patients, and they felt that conducting psychiatric evaluations in public hospitals is challenging because of the busy environment there. As regards practice, mentally ill patients (60.9%) were managed or referred by practices, and 56.5% of the EPs advised these patients upon discharge. Conclusion: The study showed that EPs have positive attitudes toward psychiatric patients, but their knowledge varied based on age, occupation levels, and years of experience. There were significant knowledge gaps, particularly regarding effective communication with psychiatric patients. Additionally, many EPs manage psychiatric patients without being aware of the psychiatric resources in their hospital. Improving medical school curricula and postgraduate training can enhance care. However, more research in this field is needed.

Abstract:Introduction: Clinical trials are crucial for advancing medical knowledge and improving healthcare outcomes. Despite an increase in research publications in Saudi Arabia, clinical trial productivity has lagged behind. Understanding the barriers to conducting clinical trials in Saudi Arabia is essential. This study aims to explore the challenges and propose solutions for improving clinical trial capacity in the Kingdom. Specifically, we aim to develop national strategies to enhance clinical trial infrastructure, identify educational needs, and suggest ways to strengthen research education and training in Saudi Arabia. Methods: The study utilized a qualitative research design with a grounded theory approach. Participants were recruited through purposive sampling, including clinical trial professionals from Riyadh, Jeddah, and Al Khobar, who participated in three half-day workshops. Discussions focused on required skillsets, barriers to conducting trials, improvement recommendations, gaps in research education, and strategies for the Saudi National Institute of Health (SNIH) to support clinical trials. Data were collected through pre-workshop surveys and focus group discussions, and thematic analysis was employed to identify common themes. Results: A total of 35 participants, mainly from the government sector (67%), attended the workshops. Physicians represented the largest professional group (31%), with the majority being Saudi nationals (83%) and engaged in clinical practice (65%). The study identified key challenges, including limited resources (82%), inadequate infrastructure (82%), time constraints (80%), and insufficient funding (80%). While satisfaction with educational programs was mixed, a need for improved infrastructure and support for clinical trials in Saudi Arabia was evident. The focus group discussions further highlighted the importance of research competency, identifying 11 essential domains such as research methodology, data management, and project leadership. Nine major challenges were noted, including funding, infrastructure, and collaboration deficits. A total of 38 recommendations were proposed to address these challenges and enhance the national clinical trial ecosystem. Conclusions: This study underscores the importance of addressing the challenges in conducting clinical trials in Saudi Arabia through targeted educational programs, training initiatives, and enhanced support from the SNIH. By implementing strategies that focus on funding, resources, training, and collaboration, Saudi Arabia can significantly advance its clinical trial landscape, improve research quality and efficiency, and position itself as a leader in global health research.

Abstract:Background: Schools have to ensure student safety and well-being. However, medical emergencies involving injuries are common, requiring teachers to provide prompt first aid before professional care arrives. This study assessed knowledge and awareness of first aid among school teachers to identify areas needing improvement. Methods: This cross-sectional study surveyed 371 teachers from the eastern region primary schools using a standardized questionnaire assessing first aid knowledge across areas like bleeding control, fractures, seizures, choking, and burns. Demographic factors were analyzed for correlations with knowledge levels. Pearson's Chi-square tests analyzed bivariate relationships comparing correct knowledge identification percentages across teacher sociodemographic. The level of statistical significance was at a P value <0.05 across tests. Results: Only 157 teachers felt able to appropriately handle medical emergencies. Major knowledge gaps existed regarding airway obstruction and chemical injuries, with 168 unable to identify correct responses for choking first aid and 105 unsure of chemical burn management steps. Appropriate fracture management was lacking, with just 70 correctly endorsing nose pinch for nosebleeds. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation knowledge was inadequate, with 57 of teachers unaware of the basics. Teachers demonstrating higher knowledge levels overwhelmingly had prior first aid training (153, 66.5%) compared to untrained counterparts (89, 63.1%). Conclusion: The study revealed poor first aid knowledge among elementary school teachers for effectively managing child emergencies. Strategies enhancing delivery must address barriers around training access, knowledge attrition, and variability in baseline skills through sustainable system-wide policies applied nationally. Fulfilling schools' ethical obligations toward maintaining student safety requires urgent reforms to bolster emergency preparedness.
