Abstract:Ischemic heart disease (IHD) is the most prevalent cardiovascular disease globally and imposes the highest disease burden. 1,2 Depression is a highly prevalent mental health condition among individuals with IHD, 3,4 affecting approximately 20% of patients. 5,6 The likelihood of experiencing depression among patients with IHD is 3 to 4 times higher than in the general population. 3 Patients with IHD experience unpredictable angina symptoms and lifelong medication dependency, often leading to negative emotions such as depression and anxiety. 7 Depression in IHD significantly increases health burden, resulting in reduced quality of life (QoL), increased disease recurrence rates, and mortality. 4,7 Prioritizing mental health needs, including anxiety, depression, and QoL, in patients with IHD is crucial to enhancing overall well-being and treatment outcomes.
