Abstract:Hypothyroidism is a significant health concern in Jordan, mirroring its global prevalence. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), [ 1 ] medication adherence refers to the extent to which an individual's actions align with the agreed-upon recommendations provided by a healthcare professional. [ 2 ] This pertains specifically to the timing, dosage, and frequency of medication intake within the prescribed duration. [ 3 ] noncompliance is a significant contributor to the lack of therapeutic efficacy. The level of adherence is influenced by a combination of many factors. The concept of non-adherence encompasses 5 dimensions that interact with each other. [ 4 ] These dimensions include healthcare system and team factors, which involve aspects like access to care and the stress experienced during healthcare visits. Patient-related factors, particularly psychological factors, also play a significant role. Additionally, therapy-related factors, such as the presence of unpleasant side effects, contribute to non-adherence. Condition-related factors, such as the duration of therapy, further influence adherence. Lastly, social and economic factors, including unstable living conditions, lack of family or social support, medication cost, and health insurance, also impact adherence rates. [ 5 ]
