Abstract:Entropy engineering has attracted extensive attention, which is applied to induce controllable changes in structures through lattice distortion effects to optimize certain properties. In this work, a series of pure phase high-entropy dielectric ceramics, Sr0.9La0.1MeO3 (Me = Zr, Sn, Ti, Hf, Mn, Nb) were synthesized at the sintering temperature of 1550 °C via a traditional solid phase method. The internal relationship between phase stability and dielectric properties with respect to the variation of mixing entropy were investigated. The distortion of oxygen octahedron (in-phase and antiphase) and antiparallel cation displacement were produced in Sr0.9La0.1(Zr0.25Sn0.25Ti0.25Hf0.25)O3 (4M) ceramic system after the introduction of four cations into B-site. Finally, 4M ceramic possesses excellent dielectric permittivity frequency stability and dielectric-temperature stability (εr/ε25°C<5% within −100 to 300 °C) with a low dielectric loss (<0.01). This work provides a valuable reference for entropy engineering to control dielectric performance and phase stability, and may facilitate the discovery and design of novel electronic ceramics.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is to optimize the dielectric properties and phase stability of high - entropy perovskite ceramics through entropy engineering. Specifically, the authors synthesized a series of high - entropy ceramics of Sr\(_{0.9}\)La\(_{0.1}\)MeO\(_3\) (Me = Zr, Sn, Ti, Hf, Mn, Nb) and studied the intrinsic relationship between the microstructure and dielectric properties of these materials under different mixed entropy conditions. ### Main problems: 1. **How to optimize dielectric properties through entropy engineering**: The authors regulate the dielectric properties by introducing multiple cations (Zr\(^{4+}\), Sn\(^{4+}\), Ti\(^{4+}\), Hf\(^{4+}\)) into the B - site of the perovskite structure, inducing the distortion of oxygen octahedra (in - phase and anti - phase) and antiparallel cation displacements. 2. **How to achieve excellent temperature and frequency stability**: The research aims to obtain high - entropy ceramic materials with low dielectric loss (< 0.01), excellent temperature stability of dielectric constant and frequency stability (\(\varepsilon\(_r\)/\(\varepsilon\(_{25°C}\)< 5% in the range of - 100°C to 300°C). ### Key findings: - **4M ceramics** (Sr\(_{0.9}\)La\(_{0.1}\)(Zr\(_{0.25}\)Sn\(_{0.25}\)Ti\(_{0.25}\)Hf\(_{0.25}\))O\(_3\)) exhibit excellent dielectric temperature stability, frequency stability and low dielectric loss. - **Oxygen octahedron distortion**: The introduction of four cations led to the distortion of the oxygen octahedron, which is considered to be the main reason for the stability of dielectric properties. ### Conclusion: Through reasonable entropy engineering design, the dielectric properties of high - entropy perovskite ceramics can be significantly improved, making it maintain a stable dielectric constant and low loss in a wide temperature range, which provides a valuable reference for the development of new electronic ceramic materials.
