Abstract:The efficiency, precision, and versatility of miniature robots in micromanipulation are constrained by their speed, motion resolution, and load capacity. However, their actuation principles and structures impose limits in the optimization of the three metrics. To address this challenge, we designed a quadruped micromanipulation robot with a size of 90 × 90 × 52 mm³ and weight of 265 g. It contains four ultrasonic legs, each offering three-degree-of-freedom vibration (one longitudinal and two bending modes). The legs are mounted vertically, enabling a good load capacity of the robot (<13.5% speed drop when carrying its own weight). A deflection angle switching mechanism is proposed, granting the robot high-speed maneuverability (top speeds of 317.9 mm/s and 426.9°/s) and precise manipulation (resolution of about 100 nm). These designs offer a new approach for developing efficient, precise, and versatile robots. Moreover, the robot exhibits potential for efficiency improvement of multi-site micromanipulation.
