Abstract:The inefficiency of conventional water treatment technologies in dealing with antibiotic contamination has raised global concerns. Herein, a promising photoelectrocatalytic (PEC) system enhanced by peroxymonosulfate (PMS) is developed to treat antibiotics in drinking water in which Ag3PO4/n-Si micropyramids (n-SiMPs) serves as a photoanode. The Ag3PO4/n-SiMPs photoanode exhibits enhanced PEC performance due to the construction of the S-scheme heterojunction, which could effectively activate the PMS to degrade tetracycline (96.25 %) at a potential of 0.8 V with addition of 0.8 mM PMS in the PEC/PMS system after 2 h. Besides, the degradation rate of TC under this system still maintains about 80 % after 20 cycles, which shows an excellent stability of degradation. Mechanistic investigations demonstrate that 1O2, ·OH, SO4·− and ·O2− co-contribute to the degradation of tetracycline. The study provides key insights to construct PEC/PMS system with efficient photoanode for practical antibiotics removal from water.
