Abstract:Submarine landslides and their induced tsunami hazards are one of the major oceanic hazards threating coastal safety and residents. Thus, it is necessary for a reliable numerical model to predict the dynamic processes of the saturated moving landslide body as well as the subsequential tsunami generation and propagation. In this paper, a two-layer model based depth-integrated method is presented to simulate the submarine landslide processes and the induced tsunami wave propagation. The model adopts the depth-integrated method that incorporated Bingham constitutive relation to better consider the viscoplastic properties of the landslide body, applies the original depth-integrated equations to simulate the induced tsunami wave properties, and considers the velocity-based drag force between the upper water layer and the lower landslide layer. The finite volume method is used to solve the complex system to reduce the computational consumption. The presented model is tested against with existing benchmark to verify its feasibility. The results show that the new model owns a reliable ability to capture the dynamic characteristics of submarine landslide and its induced tsunami wave generation and can illustrate the complex interplay between the landslide body and surrounding water as well.
