Abstract:Degumming wastewater consist of abundant organic matters which could be converted to value added materials. In this study, alkyl ketene dimer (AKD) enhanced Na-montmorillonite (MMT) /kenaf parenchyma cell (PC) films were successfully prepared, which had good hydrophobic and fire-retardant properties. PCs were isolated from kenaf degumming wastewater by a simple physical hierarchical screening method. The MMT/APC (PC with AKD enhanced) water contact angle could reach 114.33 degrees, showing good hydrophobic properties and the film surfaces were very smooth. The tests of thermal stabilities and fire retardancy of the films showed that MMT/APC films exhibited good fire-retardant effects. The successful preparation of the composite film can not only transform the solid waste in kenaf degumming wastewater into valuable products, but also reduce the pollution of wastewater to the environment. The composite film can be used in the field of transportation packaging and is expected to replace plastic film or kraft paper.
