Abstract:In this paper, a prestack depth migration method based on quasi-linear Born approximation is carried out in frequency-wavenumber domain and frequency-space domain, and is used to process common shot gather data of Marmousi model. Comparison of this method with Split-Step Fourier migration method, Phase-Screen migration method shows that the prestack depth migration method can not only produce better migration result than previous three methods, but also can be used to handle lateral velocity variation in better way.During calculation of scattered wavefield, we use a formula for scattered wavefield more stable than that used by Huang et al. It enlarges, the range of quasi-linear Born approximation, and makes the prestack depth migration method based on quasi-linear Born approximation to be able to adapt strong lateral velocity variation.

Abstract:The conventional migration for 3-D VSP seismic data resorts to the use of Kirchhoff integral,which is based on the ray theory,to be implemented in common shot point gather.So it has poor adaptability and low efficiency in complex structure area with large lateral subsurface velocity variation.Based on the particularity of receiving and observing system in 3-D VSP surface shot hole and by use of reciprocity theorem of seismic wave field,a method of carrying out wave equation migration is proposed for 3D VSP seismic data in common receiver gather.The method can not only strongly improve the calculating efficiency of 3D VSP migration,but also be applied in complex structure area with large lateral subsurface velocity variation.In 3D VSP migration,in order to use the relative insensitivity of time domain migration to velocity model,through using the concept of wave equation pre-stack depth migration,the paper put forward a wave equation pre-stack time migration method,which can meet the lateral variation requirements of velocity model in time domain and extends the application range of wave equation pre-stack time migration.
Generalized Screen Method for Prestack Time Migration

Abstract:Aiming at the problem trat the conventional wave equation prestack time migration cannot take into account lateral variations of velocity,especially the strong lateral variations.Through borrowing the concept of wave equation prestack depth migration,a wave equation prestack time migration method was proposed,which takes into account the lateral variations of velocity in time domain.A generalized screen wavefield propagator,which recursively propagates along the time direction,was derived in time domain.A prestack time migration algorithm base on the generalized screen wavefield propagator was established by using the time domain one-way wave generalized screen wavefield propagator for propagating the source wavefield and the recorded wavefield along the forward and the reverse time direction,respectively.The tests of the wave equation prestack time migration on the international standard 2D Marmousi model and a real 3D VSP seismic data demonstrated its validity and applicability to the lateral variations of velocity.
A high efficient super-gather migration method for 3D VSP data

Abstract:At present the migration of 3D VSP seismic data is implemented through the gathers one by one in common-shot-gather domain or common-receiver-gather domain, so its calculation efficiency is relatively low. Based on the special property of the shots and receivers configuration in 3D VSP survey geometry and the characteristic of linear stacking of seismic wavefield, in this paper a highly efficient migration method for 3D VSP data is proposed. It first generates one kind of super-gather by using the generalized synthesis of seismic data to the 3D VSP common-receiver gathers, and migrates the super-gather by recursively using multi-source wavefield in the depth extrapolation of common-receiver gathers, which uses one recursive depth extrapolation to implement the migration of all the common-receiver gathers. The migration tests of theoretical 3D VSP data and real 3D VSP data demonstrate that the high-efficiency super-gather migration method can get the same migration results as that of the conventional common-receiver gathers migration, and can have very high calculation efficiency, its computational amount is almost equal to that of one common-receiver gather migration.
A Method of Plane Wave Depth Migration for Pre-Stack Seismic Data

Abstract:Based on plane wave decomposition, We propose a wave-equation depth migration method for pre-stack seismic data. Through the decompositions to common-shot gathers and common-offset gathers, one can obtain common p s plane wave gathers and common p h plane wave gathers which are suitable to the single square root extrapolation equation and the double square root extrapolation equation, respectively. During the decompositions to common-shot gathers and common-offset gathers, one doesn’t need the calculation of τ-p transformation in common sense. By the comparison of the migration results from the common p s plane wave gathers and common p h plane wave gathers, we think that, for the media with weak variation of velocity in lateral direction, the migration results are the same. However, for the media with strong variation of velocity in lateral direction, the migration result from the migration method for the common p s plane wave gathers is superior to that from the migration method for the common p h plane wave gathers. As for calculation efficiency, the migration method of common p s plane wave gathers is basically the same as that of common p h plane wave gathers.
Reverse-time Migration Based on Generalized Synthesis of Seismic Data in F Requency-Space Domain

Abstract:In order to reduce the computational cost of migration imaging method ,we transformed common shot gathers data and its source into synthetic gathers and synthetic source by using generalized seismic data synthesis theory .The results show that given the advantage of frequency‐space domain in numerical calculation relative to the time‐space domain , reverse‐time migration based on generalized seismic data synthesis in the frequency space domain can greatly improve the computational efficiency ,computational efficiency can be improved 1 .5 to 3 times , and the imaging results are equivalent to the conventional reverse‐time migration in frequency‐space domain . Numerical experiment results also show that the imaging results of plane wave gathers reverse‐time migration don’t have random cross‐talk ,are better than random synthetic data reverse‐time migration .

Abstract:In this paper, we provide a clear definition represented by a concise expression for seismic data migration that is a linear inversion of subsurface exploration targets using primary waves given a smooth migration model with accurate wave kinematics. Combining the definition with noncurl characteristic of P-wave and nondivergence characteristic of S-wave, we propose an elastic reverse-time migration approach without wavefield decomposition applied to heterogeneous isotropic media, in which decoupled P- and S-wave propagators independent of each other are derived. We obtain ideal imaging results when we apply the proposed migration approach to elastic synthetic seismic data of a simple four-layered model and the complex Marmousi2 model with pure P- or S-wave source exciting, demonstrating the validity of our method. Because the proposed method does not include wavefield decomposition in the backward extrapolation of recorded wavefield and demand less spatial derivative numbers in the forward extrapolation of source wavefield, it is capable of achieving high-efficiency computing. In the case of P/S composite source exciting, we suggest that although the recorded wavefield can be divided into P- and S-wave component, the P-wave component consists of primarily reflected waves PP plus primarily converted waves SP and the S-wave component consists of primarily reflected waves SS plus primarily converted waves PS. Because PP and SP or SS and PS cannot be further separated from each other by current decoupling methods, the crosstalk artifacts are unavoidable, which is verified by the migration imaging results of a two-layered model.
Isotropic Elastic Reverse Time Migration

Abstract:In order to obtain the migration imaging results with clear physical meaning and geological interpretation, the current elastic reverse time migration methods require P/S waves decomposition to the extrapolated elastic wavefields in the migration process to eliminate the cross-talk artifacts generated by physically mismatched wave modes in the migration imaging results. Given a smooth model of subsurface media with accurate kinematic characteristics of seismic waves, this paper first proposes a general forward representation for migration as a linear inverse problem of seismic data. Then, by using the isotropic elastic wave equation, the P/S wave decoupled elastic wave equations suitable for the smooth model of elastic media are derived, namely a P wave elastic wave equation and a S wave elastic wave equation. Finally, a new method and new realization for the isotropic elastic reverse time migration are proposed. For the reverse time migration of isotropic elastic wave seismic data excited by the pure P (or S) wave source, a new method is proposed, which does not need the P/S waves decomposition to the extrapolated elastic wavefields and does not appear cross-talk artifacts in the migration imaging results. For the reverse time migration of isotropic elastic wave seismic data excited by P/S waves composite source, a new realization is put forward that even if the P/S waves decomposition is used to the extrapolated elastic wavefields, the cross-talk artifacts still appear in the migration imaging results.
An efficient least-squares reverse time migration in image domain

Abstract:The results of least-squares migration have higher fidelity and spatial resolution than that of conventional migration. In this paper, an efficient method for least-squares reverse time migration in imaging domain (IDLSRTM) is proposed by using spatial de-convolution. Given a smooth velocity model with accurate kinematics of seismic wave used for migration (only the migration based on scalar wave equation is considered), the conventional reverse time migration (RTM) can be viewed as one kind of rough solution to the linear inversion problem of subsurface reflectivity. In image domain, the conventional reverse time migration results are a spatial-variant integral of the least-squares reverse time migration results and Hessian matrix. Different column vectors in the Hessian matrix can be regarded as the point spread functions of different imaging points in imaging domain. Because of the smoothness of migration velocity model and the multifold of seismic data acquisition system, the point spread functions of imaging points in a certain local region have well similarity. Therefore, the conventional reverse time migration results can be approximately represented as a spatial-invariant convolution between the least-square reverse time migration results and the Hessian matrix in the local region, and then a least-square reverse time migration method in image domain based on the local region spatial-invariant de-convolution is proposed. The spatial-invariant de-convolution can be efficiently and stably realized by using the pseudo-generalized inverse approach to spatial-invariant de-convolution in wavenumber domain. The size of local region is a trade-off between the efficiency and the effect of the least-square reverse time migration. The method proposed in this paper is applied to synthetic and field seismic data, ideal results are obtained.

Abstract:We present a new velocity update procedure for anisotropic P-P and P-S prestack depth migration in the transversely isotropic media with vertical symmetry (VTI). The anisotropic parameters are estimated by jointly inverting velocity from prestack P-P and P-S depth image gathers. The estimation consists of three steps. The first step is to create depth consistent image gather via joint velocity inversion in depth domain to estimate the vertical depth, vertical Pand S-wave velocities. This step assumes that the corresponding reflections from P-P and P-S have been identified. The second step is to perform isotropic depth migration by scanning the focusing velocities from the depth image gathers. The third step is to compute anisotropic parameters based on the results of the first and second steps. Integrating anisotropic parameters with depth consistent velocity model from joint velocity inversion completes the anisotropic prestack depth migration procedure. Our method allows for the calculation of anisotropic parameters directly in the depth domain. It is more stable and easy to tie with well log data for reservoir interpretation. The estimation of the vertical Pand S-wave velocities are useful for anisotropic processing when well log data is not available. The results from synthetic and real data show that the estimation method is a practical approach in the processing of multicomponent data.
An efficient 3D wave-equation pre-stack time migration for high-density and wide-azimuth data

Abstract:The sharp increase in data size of the high-density and wide-azimuth seismic acquisition makes seismic processing routines very challenging. To reduce the turn-around time of pre-stack time migration (PSTM) for large-scale field data (terra to petabyte size), we present an efficient wave-equation PSTM that is an approximate version of the double-square-root (DSR) migration for moderate lateral velocity variation. By converting the DSR dispersion relation into the vertical-time domain and ignoring an offset-dip term, a novel common-offset ray parameter wave-equation PSTM is developed. Meanwhile, the common-offset ray parameter data (i.e. offset plane waves) can be formed by applying the linear Radon transform to the common middle point CMP) gathers. To enhance the signal-to-noise ratio of the conventional Radon transform, we integrate the Radon transform result over azimuth, yielding azimuth-independent offset plane waves that are well suited to irregular sampling and uneven offset distribution. Furthermore, the split-step Fourier method is introduced to extrapolate the wavefield efficiently. Since the pre-stack migration of common-offset ray parameter data is migrated independently, the common image gathers (CIGs) can be generated naturally by sorting the migrated sections by ray parameters. A 3D high-density field data test demonstrates the efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed method, making it very promising for industrial-sized data processing.
Prestack Time Migration from 3D Irregular Surfaces with Near-Surface-related Deabsorption

Abstract:We have developed a 3D prestack time migration (PSTM) approach that can directly migrate nonplanar data with near-surface-related deabsorption using three effective parameters. The proposed scheme improves the so-called topography PSTM approach by adding a near-surface effective [Formula: see text] parameter that compensates for the absorption and dispersion of waves propagating through near-surface media. The two effective velocity parameters above and below the datum can be estimated by flattening events in imaging gathers, and the additional near-surface effective [Formula: see text] parameter can be obtained using scanning technology. Hence, no knowledge with respect to near-surface media is needed in advance for implementing the proposed scheme. The proposed topography-deabsorption PSTM method can be applied to seismic data recorded on a 3D irregular surface without statics corrections. Consequently, traveltimes are obtained with improved accuracy because the raypath bends away from the vertical in the presence of high near-surface velocities, and the absorption and dispersion caused by strong intrinsic attenuation in near-surface media are correctly compensated. Moreover, we attenuated the migrated noise by smearing each time sample only along the Fresnel zone rather than along the entire migration aperture. As a result, an image with a higher resolution and superior signal-to-noise ratio is achieved. The performance of the proposed topography-deabsorption PSTM scheme has been verified using synthetic and field data sets.
The Research and Implementation of Velocity Analysis Methods for Reverse Time Migration Angle-Gather

Abstract:Reverse time migration can improve the imaging quality of complex medium evidently, compared with other imaging methods, but it requires higher conditions than others to the accuracy of velocity models. In addition to providing the information of velocity for depth migration, as an important prestack migration output, common imaging gather also can provide the information of amplitude and phase; at the same time, it provides a basis for subsequent explanation of attributes. We derive the formula for angle-gather velocity analysis, and focus on the analysis of the characteristics, stability, and velocity sensitivity of the formula, etc. that provide a theoretical basis for the analysis of the following speed. We give the specific implementation process of human-computer interaction velocity analysis for reverse time migration angle-gather. The test results of model data and actual data show that the human-computer interaction velocity analysis methods for reverse time migration angle-gather, that we provide, are practical, and can get a better background velocity model.
AUTOMATIC ESTIMATION OF STACKING VELOCITY BASED ON SPARSE INVERSION

Abstract:Stacking velocity analysis is a routine procedure in seismic data processing, and also a classical method for construction of initial velocity models. Until now, many researchers are trying to improve the stacking velocity spectra by computing a better semblance, considering the AVO effect or improving the anti-noise ability of algorithm. However, it is seldom discussed on how to calculate the stacking velocity automatically. In this paper, we attempt to solve this problem by combining the velocity spectra calculation and picking procedure into a model parameter estimation under the framework of sparse inversion. Therefore, it is possible to invert the stacking velocity automatically and shorten the turn-around time of initial velocity model building and reduce human costs considerably. To solve this problem, first we give the definition of a forward problem, which is the prediction model for CMP gather using stacking velocity and t(0) time as model parameters. Then, the inverse problem is defined as finding the sparse model parameters with the given CMP gather. Using the sparsity of model parameters as a model constraint, we reformulate the conventional stacking velocity analysis problem as a new sparse inverse problem, and present a new matching pursuit (MP) algorithm to solve it. The proposed method is quite promising for automatic construction of the initial model, and can provide a good initial model for subsequent high-resolution velocity inversion. Numerical and field data tests demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Based on the BP 2004 velocity benchmark, we add small errors to the velocity above top‐of‐salt and iterated on migration velocity analysis to compare the results from using several migration methods: conventional downward extrapolation, tilted plane‐wave migration, and RTM. Our results show that RTM can be more sensitive to velocity errors than does one‐way imaging when spurious reflections in RTM are misinterpreted to update in model building. Automatic Time-Domain Velocity Estimation Based on an Accelerated Clustering Method

Abstract:Time-domain velocity and moveout parameters can be directly obtained from local event slopes, which are estimated on the prestack seismic gathers. In practice, there are always some errors in the estimated local slopes, especially in low signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) situations. Thus, subsurface velocity information may be hidden in the image domain spanned by velocity and other moveout parameters. We have developed an accelerated clustering algorithm to find cluster centers without prior information about the number of clusters. First, plane-wave destruction is implemented to estimate the local event slopes. For every sample in the seismic gathers, we obtain the estimations of velocity and its location in the image domain, according to the local event slopes. These mapped data points in the new domain exhibit the structure of groups. We represent these points by a mixture distribution model. Then, the cluster centers of the mixture distribution model are located, which correspond to maximum likelihood velocities of the main subsurface structures. Approximate velocity uncertainties bounds are used to select centers corresponding to reflections. Finally, interpolation is performed on the clustered unevenly sampled knot velocities to build the effective velocity model on regular grids. With synthetic and field data examples, we have determined that the proposed automatic velocity estimation method can give a stacking velocity model and a time migration velocity model with relatively high accuracy.
3D Offset Plane-wave Finite-difference Pre-stack Time Migration

Abstract:Based on the double-square-root equation, a 3D offset plane-wave equation for pre-stack time migration is derived and its finite-difference scheme is put forward. Offset plane waves can be generated by applying a plane-wave decomposition (slant-stacking or Linear Radon Transform) to CMP gathers. However, the resulting offset plane waves will be contaminated by coherent noise. We then present a local slant-stacking method to eliminate the noise. Meanwhile, an azimuth-independent 3D slant-stacking approach is developed to address the issue of uneven azimuth distribution and irregular offset distribution in CMP gathers. High-quality offset plane-wave datasets can be produced by the offset plane-wave decomposition approach proposed in this paper. Besides, residual curvature velocity analysis can be implemented in the offset ray-parameter common-image gathers. 3D offset plane-wave migration will be a practical solution for prestack time migration.
The Pre-Stack Depth Migration Velocity Model for Complex Geological Structure in Southern Margin of Junggar Basin: Modeling and Effect

Abstract:Dushanzi area in the southern margin of Junggar basin is characterized by complex near-surface structure,up-steep and down-gentle geological structure style,fault development and very complicated wave fields,which give rise to difficulties in the pre-stack depth migration in this area. This paper presents the key procedures for the seismic pre-stack depth migration velocity model(PSDM) applied in Dushanzi area:(1) making full use of well data to establish interval velocity map,and eliminate the influence of near surface Xiyu conglomerate on the underlying interval velocity;(2) making restricted correction of the seismic velocity using drilled well velocity data and improving the accuracy of the velocity model with along layer coherent inversion;(3) establishing the 3D velocity model based on the 2D grid to ensure the closure of space and time in 2D grid velocity field. The case study shows good imaging effects by using the PSDM technology.

Abstract:In this contribution it is shown that various aspects of the concept of residual migration can be utilized for the case that a prestack time or depth migration has been performed for a seismic survey and a new depth is available: The concept of residual migration is introduced by determining travel times of reflected events for individual traces from aplanatic curves. These events are migrated in suitable configurations for the new velocity model for which a raytracing set as required for a Kirchhoff prestack depth migration is available. The resulting transformations can be utilized in various ways to estimate important parameters such as the positional bias of migrated events with respect to the corresponding zero offset position and the residual moveout for the new depth model ; finally a new approach is suggested to estimate the aperture width over the Fresnel zone for the first prestack migration. Various mapped prestack migrations can be estimated, including a prestack time migration with eliminated positional bias. The necessity of a new prestack depth migration can be assessed from the aperture width over the first order Fresnel zone and from the positional bias at a particular offset. Additional kinematic parameters can be acquired for a residual prestack migration, in particular the curves over which the residual summation has to be performed. The approach is applicable to isotropic and anisotropic PSTM and PSDM. Computational costs of the implementation are low when compared to a full PSDM. In the appendix a formula is derived for the migration velocities for a prestack time migration for small to intermediate source receiver offsets. The velocities can be determined either from an inhomogeneous anisotropic depth model or from residual moveout analyses of a previous migration.

The finite‐difference wave equation migration makes it possible to handle the moderate lateral velocity variation. Besides, this approach can compensate the attenuation of seismic wave to some extent. Therefore, it is an attractive wave equation prestack time migration method. The amplitude‐preserving migration profile will be benefit to the subsequent seismic interpretation.
