Abstract:This study identifies a previously overlooked peculiarity resulted by the relativistic Doppler effect, suggesting a possible violation of photon energy conservation by a thought experiment. To resolve this, a revised theory is proposed relying on considering fixed intrinsic properties for photons in their rest frame, called the Light Intrinsic Frame of Reference (LIFOR). This theory preserves the constancy of light speed, is fully consistent with special relativity, and explains frequency shifts through Lorentz transformations, leading to a relativistic justification for Planck’s quantization of radiation energy.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to address is a previously unnoticed peculiar phenomenon brought about by the relativistic Doppler effect, specifically the issue of energy conservation of photons in different reference frames. Specifically, when two photons have the same energy and momentum in one reference frame, they may become distinguishable in another reference frame, which violates the law of energy conservation. The author points out through a thought experiment that observing photons in different reference frames may result in a situation where energy is not conserved. To solve this problem, the author proposes a modified theory, suggesting that photons have fixed intrinsic properties in their inherent reference frame (referred to as the Light Inherent Frame of Reference, LIFOR), such as frequency, wavelength, and mass. This theory not only maintains the invariance of the speed of light but also explains the change in frequency through Lorentz transformation and proposes a relativistic interpretation of photon energy quantization. The revised theory provides new insights into the mass of photons, energy quantization, and the interaction between relativity and quantum mechanics, potentially resolving some long-standing inconsistencies.
