Abstract:Reducing aeroelastic vibration of supersonic aircraft wings is very challenging because of the limitation of efficiency, mass, space and especially the extreme high and variable temperature. This paper proposes a robust passive vibration reduction strategy employing strongly nonlinear acoustic metamaterial (NAM) that can adapt to high temperature. We establish an aeroelastic vibration analysis model and its solving method of strongly NAM structures under typical cantilever boundary conditions. The NAM design can reduce the low-frequency and broadband pre-flutter vibration by 20 dB, including the first-order resonance. Systematic analyses are performed to clarify the influences of high temperature on the deformation, frequency, efficiency and adaptivity of the NAM structures. High temperature changes the resonance frequency of the cantilever plate and nonlinear resonators, thereby reducing the aeroelastic stability boundary (the flutter velocity), but we find that the properly designed NAM can achieve greater reduction of pre-flutter broadband vibration under high temperature. Moreover, proper combinations of nonlinear resonators can further improve the robustness and efficiency under variable temperature. The highly efficient and robust vibration reduction capability is associated with the chaotic characteristics of strongly NAM structures. Therefore, here we propose a vibration reduction method for supersonic wings that can adapt to extreme and variable temperatures. The model, analyses and conclusions provide meaningful insights into investigating the aeroelastic vibration of supersonic structures under high temperature, and broaden the design methodology and application of strongly NAM technology.
