Abstract:The demand of hydraulic parallel motion system of space rendezvous and docking simulator to its hydraulic system is high flow and high performance. To achieve good motion simulation results and meet the requirements of precision control, a method of self-tuning parameters fuzzy PID control of proportional water valve opening has been employed to control oil temperature, a method of online vacuum degassing in a sealed system has been used to increase oil effective bulk modulus, and a device has been developed to measure oil bulk modulus online. Experimental research has been carried out on the hydraulic driving system of comprehensive test bed for docking mechanism. The experimental results show that precise control of oil temperature has been achieved and bulk modulus of oil has been increased obviously.

Abstract:Numerical methods are adopted to investigate the flow field of zero net mass flux actuator,including the supersonic inlet flow field with actuator.The Roe upwind scheme and the fully implicit dual-time step method are utilized for spatial discretization and time marching respectively.The parallelized deforming grid algorithm based on transfinite interpolation is used to simulate the unsteady flow fields with moving boundaries,considering the geometric conservation law.The influence of driving frequency on zero net mass flux actuator is analyzed to study the unsteady characteristics of zero net mass flux.Furthermore,the different effects of flow control by zero net mass flux flow actuator in supersonic inlet flow field are derived using different driving frequencies.The results show that numerical methods are suitable to represent zero net mass flux and the actuator can effectively improve the supersonic performance.

Abstract:The dynamics of nanoparticle-laden multiphase flow is a new and important research field.To understand the basic interaction between phases and their physical nature,some problems are studied,including the closure for particle general dynamic equations;the construction of the coagulation kernel;the fundamental interaction between particle dynamics and flow coherent structures;the theoretical analysis on collision rate and some engineering applications.A new general mathematical method for solving the general dynamic equation is proposed,and applied in some engineering problems.

Abstract:Supersonic and hypersonic flows have gained considerable attention in the aerospace industry in recent years. Flow control is crucial for refining the quality of these high-speed flows and improving the performance and safety of fast aircraft. This paper discusses the distinctive characteristics of supersonic flows compared to low-speed flows, including phenomena such as boundary layer transition, shock waves, and sonic boom. These traits give rise to significant challenges related to drag, noise, and heat. Therefore, a review of several active and passive control strategies is provided, highlighting their significant advancements in flow transitions, reducing drag, minimizing noise, and managing heat. Furthermore, we provide a comprehensive analysis of various research methodologies used in the application of flow control engineering, including wind tunnel testing, flight testing, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD). This work gives an overview of the present state of flow control research and offers insights into potential future advancements.

Abstract:Cavitation and bubble dynamics are important topicsof fluid mechanics. Generally, cavitation phenomenonplays a negative role in the hydraulic machineries (e.g.hydroturbines, pumps, space engines, and marine propellers)through various kinds of mechanisms. First, thecavitation could cause serious damage on the surfacesof the materials (e.g. patterned erosions with pits) duringits final collapse near the boundary. Second, flowinside/outside the machines will be further deterioratedby the vortices generated by the cavitating flows. Third,significant unstable flow could persist for a long timedue to the generation of cavitation. As a result, boththe efficiency and stable operation of the machines willbe challenged by the cavitation.

Abstract:In the recent decade, a great deal of research has been devoted to active control of the unsteady flow in a wide variety of components and/or subsystems of aircraft, automobile and marine vehicles and industrial fluid machinery, because small improvements in component and/or subsystem performance often lead to large payoffs. The term active flow control is used to describe the methods to actively manipulate flow fields with auxiliary power introduced to the flow. In this paper, a brief survey of the recent progress in active flow control research is made. The possibilities of further performance improvement using the theories and technologies of intelligent systems are discussed. Intelligent systems can be applied to improve sensing and actuating, increase model accuracy, and optimize the control schemes. The active flow control systems, on the other hand, may also challenge intelligent systems researchers and stimulate new development of intelligent tools.

Abstract:In recent years,research on nanofluids has become a hot topic in multi-disciplinary areas with especially major progresses made in the measurement of fluid properties,interpretation of flow and heat transfer mechanisms and innovative applications of the nanofluid.In this article,several latest enlightening works such as heat pipe using nanofluid as working medium,nano-droplet particles based nano fluid,nano-liquid metal fluid and nanofluid control by way of photothermal nanoparticles were comprehensively reviewed.Important scientific issues raised were summarized and some novel possible applications were pointed out.

Abstract:As an emerging branch in the area of flow control,hydrodynamic metamaterials have received considerable attention because of their novel flow control capabilities.In this review,we present prominent studies on hydrodynamic metamateri-als in porous media,non-porous media,creeping flows,and non-creeping flows from several perspectives.In particular,for hydrodynamic cloaking metamaterials,we unify the descriptive form of transformation hydrodynamics for hydrodynamic metamaterials in porous and non-porous media by the hydrodynamic governing equations.Finally,we summarize and out-look the current shortcomings and challenges of current hydrodynamic metamaterials and propose possible future research directions,especially for microfluidics,exotic fluids,hydrodynamic cloaking in high Reynolds numbers,and turbulence.

Abstract:After 30 years of development, the discrete element method (DEM) has developed to be a kind of numerical method of particle systems widely used in process engineering. In particular, the CFD-DEM coupling method has been widely used in the researches of fluidization. The DEM models are reviewed firstly, including the basic principles of DEM model, the particle shape model, the contact force model, the non-contact force model, and the fluid force model. Then the CFD-DEM coupling methods and the applications to fluidization are introduced, including the applications in fluidized bed, pneumatic conveying, and some other fields of process engineering. Finally, the future development of DEM and CFD-DEM coupling methods are presented, hoping to promote the development of DEM and its applications in process engineering.

Fluid machinery is crucial in many engineering applications, including aerospace, civil, mechanical, and chemical engineering. This Special Issue, entitled "Optimization and Flow Characteristics in Advanced Fluid Machinery", features several research articles exploring flow characteristics and optimization in fluid mechanics. The authors present innovative ideas, methodologies, and techniques to advance the field of fluid mechanics. The papers cover a wide range of topics, including computational fluid dynamics (CFD), turbulence modeling, heat transfer, multiphase flow, and fluid–structure interactions. Abstract:The ability to manipulate fluids has always been one of the focuses of scientific research and engineering application. The rapid development of machine learning technology provides a new perspective and method for active flow control. This review presents recent progress in combining reinforcement learning with high-dimensional, non-linear, and time-delay physical information. Compared with model-based closed-loop control methods, deep reinforcement learning (DRL) avoids modeling the complex flow system and effectively provides an intelligent end-to-end policy exploration paradigm. At the same time, there is no denying that obstacles still exist on the way to practical application. We have listed some challenges and corresponding advanced solutions. This review is expected to offer a deeper insight into the current state of DRL-based active flow control within fluid mechanics and inspires more non-traditional thinking for engineering.

Abstract:Recent developments of parallel computational algorithms of particle laden flows by the direct numerical simulation based on the Euler-Lagrangian method were summarized, including the choosing of the difference schemes, domain decomposition method for the carrier fluid phase and particle phase, data transferring logic for the particle phase, parallel computational method for the treating of particle collisions, major problems of parallel computing algorithms for two dimensional domain decomposition in the three-dimensional computational domain, the speed up and parallel computational efficiency. Some major problems in the treating of parallel computational algorithms for the particle laden flows by the direct numerical simulation method were analyzed. In addition, future researches in this area were proposed in this paper. © 2013 Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering.
