Abstract:Waste transfer stations inevitably produce large amounts of leachate when improving the efficiency of comprehensive waste management. This study used the combined process of coagulation and the operation of a batch biological sponge iron reactor (BBSIR) to treat the leachate from a waste transfer station, and the final effluent was stably discharged to the standard. Adding sponge iron (SI) enhanced the degradation of organic matter, nitrogen, and phosphorus pollutants in the biological treatment unit, and the removal efficiencies of COD, NH4+-N, TN, and TP increased by 9.61 %, 9.64 %, 8.51 %, and 3.32 %, respectively. Microbiological analysis showed that functional microorganisms such as Thauera, Saccharimonadales, and Rhodobacter were significantly enriched under SI stimulation. Multi-omics evidence showed that the enhancement of carbohydrate metabolism, lipid metabolism, xenobiotics biodegradation and metabolism, as well as an increased abundance of nitrogen metabolism genes, promoted the efficient removal of pollutants by the BBSIR.
